Worship The Ground You Walk On

Chapter 42: For Whom?

Chapter 42: For Whom?

A furious clap of thunder frightened everyone in the room, and they looked out of the window in shock.

Then came the heavy rain with a vengeance.

However, only Ben was sitting there silently like a plaster statue as if nothing had happened, puffing his

cigarette.

The rain showed no sign of stopping after a while. On the contrary, it was pouring like waterfall.

Someone answered a call and said, “Excuse me, gentlemen. My sister gets stuck in the suburbs. I

have to pick her up!”

“Why is Margaret there all of a sudden?” Sean asked.

That man replied, “I heard that the girls were having a gathering this afternoon.”

That man glanced at Ben before he finished his words and added casually, “It’s said that Mrs. Crawford

also joined them today. I wonder if she’s also stuck in the suburbs since it’s a downpour outside...”

Hearing that, Sean turned to look at Ben, finding him sitting there motionless. Perhaps Ben was still not

used to the title “Mrs. Crawford”, so he didn’t associate it with Claudia.

Smoking, Ben was staring at the heavy rain out of the window, poker-faced.

Sean heaved a sigh and said to that man, “Then bring Claudia back with you since you’re picking up

your sister anyway.”

“My sister is in Seasons Restaurant. I don’t know where Mrs. Crawford is. Where shall I pick her up?”

Sean took out his phone. “Let me ask her on the phone...”

However, Sean realized at once that Claudia was unable to speak, so she wouldn’t answer the phone

most of the time.

But Kim would.

The next moment, Sean corrected himself. “Let me text her...”

After the text message was sent, they waited for over ten minutes but still didn’t get a reply. That man

got impatient and rose to his feet. “My sister can’t wait any longer. I have to leave now...”

Sean stopped that man before sending a voice mail to Claudia.

However, no matter how many text messages were sent, Sean still didn’t get any reply.

Leo began to wonder why, while that man had to leave because his sister was calling him constantly.

Shortly after, Sean and Leo stopped playing cards and turned to look at Ben.

Ben could faintly feel that people were staring at him without looking back.

In fact, he heard Sean calling Claudia’s name the first time.

At this moment, Ben threw a look at Sean a little impatiently and spoke for the first time this afternoon.

“What’s wrong?”

“What else could it be? Your wife could be stuck in the suburbs. It’s a downpour outside, and what if

something happened to her? Call her!” Sean blurted out, regardless of whether Ben was in the mood of

listening to him or not.

As expected, hardly had Sean finished his sentence than Ben’s face darkened.

Leo chimed in, “Sean didn’t mean anything bad. It’s raining heavily, and Claudia can’t speak. What if

something happened to her?”

“Exactly. The weather is awful now. If it keeps raining till tomorrow, she won’t be able to come home

tonight!”

Ben heard them with a calm look on his face. He showed no emotion at all, as if the woman his friends

were talking about had nothing to do with him.

Ben dealt with the situation with indifference effortlessly.

Seeing Ben behaving like this, Sean wanted to say something but was stopped by Leo. The two

exchanged a glance, and the rest people in the room went quiet. For a moment, silence hung heavily in

the room.

Meanwhile, it was pouring down harder and harder, and there was no sign of the rain relenting. The

severe winds were battering the trees.

Some time later, another hand ended. Sean turned to glance at Ben discreetly.

Ben still had that nonchalant look on his face. He put out the cigarette and looked out of the window,

motionless.

Words almost slipped out of Sean’s lips. He wanted to urge Ben again, but didn’t know how to put it.

After all, he had been friend with Ben for so many years, knowing that the marriage between Claudia

and him was nothing but a business marriage based on the older generation’s will.

It was totally an unrequited love.

How miserable his mute wife was!

Shaking his head, Sean breathed a sigh. A bolt of lightning crossed the darkened sky and suddenly the

room became as bright as day. Then came a deafening thunder clap.

This time, Leo couldn’t hold himself back anymore. He threw a look at Ben with a frown, “Dude, I think

you should call her. What if something really happened?”

The moment Leo said that, Ben’s phone rang.

The abrupt ringtone interrupted everyone’s thoughts.

Ben took out his phone, glanced at the caller ID and gave a slight frown before answering it.

“What’s up, Hanna?”

Ben’s voice was deep and mellow, but attractive and sexy at the same time.

Sean and Leo exchanged a glance tacitly.

It was unknown what Hanna said on the phone. But after a while, Ben hung up, tossed his phone on

the tea table, and picked up the cigarette pack next to him.

There was no cigarette left in it, so Ben threw it into the bin.

Maybe because it was too quiet in the room, or Ben was throwing it too hard, the cigarette pack hit the

bin with a bang. © NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.

Everyone around turned to look at Ben, especially Sean and Leo.

Ben glanced at them, annoyance welling up inside him for no reason. His eyes blazing with fury, he

asked, “What?”

Ben was asking in a low but strong voice, sounding sure, domineering, and aggressive, making the

people around move their gaze away from him at the same time.

Ben sat for another few seconds and finally rose to his feet, disturbed. When he walked outside with

the suit in his hand, he snatched a pack of cigarette from another table, pulled one out and stuck it

between his lips.

When he lit it up, he strode outside and left.

It was when the door slammed behind Ben with a bang that the rest people came to their senses. Sean

let out a sigh and said, “I bet it was Hanna calling and asking him to pick up Claudia. Do you think so?”

Leo raised his eyebrows and threw a glance at him with a cold smile, “Of course!”

According to their understanding of Ben, Hanna probably was the only woman in this world able to

propel him into action.

However, all of them were wrong.

Even Ben was wondering himself. For whom was he in a bad mood today? For whom was he driving to

the suburbs now?

It wasn’t completely for Hanna anyway.

When he got into the car, Ben called Claudia, but she never answered the phone. No matter how many

times he called her, the result remained the same.

Ben’s brows furrowed; his face is sullen. The car streaked off down the road to the suburbs at top

speed.
