Chapter 41: Guess How did I Know That
Chapter 41: Guess How did I Know That
“The diamond is real, but the ring is not the work of Master Michaela’s. It’s just a knockoff, and it’s
worth...”
The few women around Amber were whispering to one another in a sarcastic tone.
Amber cared only about her pride. It was such a humiliating thing, and she couldn’t feel more ashamed
sitting there, wishing that she could find somewhere to hide.
But Hanna wouldn’t let her off.
“There is a wide variety of jewelry, and I believe you must have worn many fine jewels before. Besides,
it’s totally normal for one to be mistaken.” Hanna tried to give a way out for Amber.
Meanwhile, the other women started to make excuses for Amber too.
Blushing, Amber stared blankly at Hanna and managed to regain some pride. “...Yeah, I was mistaken!
I’m so sorry!”
Hanna smirked. This was what she wanted to do: having a dig at Amber while she had to hold back her
anger and be grateful to her!
The women were putting on a wonderful show, while Claudia was watching them silently in the corner
like an audience member.
However, she had a new understanding of Hanna now.
Kim was right. This woman was not a kind person either.
She appeared quiet and calm, but actually she was shrewd and calculating.
The party lasted for several hours, and the ladies drank and talked, but Claudia took no part in it. She
just hoped that time could pass more quickly, so that this meaningless party would end as soon as
possible
It was dark and dull outside. The thunder was rumbling, and the storm would break at any time.
At this point, Hanna got a phone call asking her to go back to town to handle something urgent in
business.
Before she got up, Hanna looked at Claudia. “Shall we go back together?”
After all, the two had come together.
Hanna cast a glance of the weather outside and said, “It seems that it’s going to rain. Let’s go back as
soon as possible!”
The women agreed. Claudia took her bag and rose to her feet, but meanwhile, Amber, who was next to
her, said something at this moment.
“Can you stay for a while, Claudia? I want to tell you something in private.”
Claudia hesitated, because she knew very well that there was nothing she wanted to tell Amber!
Hanna could see Claudia’s indecision and advised, “The weather is terrible now, maybe another time.”
Amber gave a sneer, walked up to Claudia and took her arm affectionately, “I really have something
important to tell you! When we’re done, I’ll drive you home, Claudia.”
Now that Amber offered to send Claudia home in front of so many people, Claudia could only agree.
Hanna was anxious before she left. She asked again, “Are you really OK alone with her?”
Claudia shook her head with a smile. Even if Amber and she had been on bad terms with each other
since childhood, Claudia still believed that Amber would drive her home.
However, Claudia’s confidence in Amber resulted in major disappointment.
When Hanna left, the other women also left gradually and went back to town in groups. When only
Claudia and Amber were left, Claudia stared at the woman before her and asked in sign language, “So,
what is it?”
Amber read sign language. Her eyes fixed on Claudia, she gave a cold smile and said slowly, “So what
is it? Let me think about it...”
Amber drawled deliberately while throwing a glance at the floor-to-ceiling window out of the corner of
her eye
Dark clouds were gathering in the sky out of the window. The lightning flashed and lit the spacious
room while the rumbling thunder reached the women in the box.
“Do you know what Ben was doing in the afternoon?” asked Amber suddenly.
Claudia was a little shocked because she had no idea about his schedule.
Seeing the confusion on Claudia’s face, Amber stared coldly at her and said word by word in a scornful
tone, “Ben is playing cards in Qadiri Hotel!”
Then she added, “Guess how did I know that?”
Before Claudia could react, Amber flashed her phone at her. On the screen showed the text messages
between her and Ben, but Claudia failed to see the details clearly.
“Ben told me about it!” Amber answered her own question with a smug look on her face.
Meanwhile, Claudia’s gaze was fixed coldly on Amber’s face.
“Oops, maybe I’m wrong. I have nothing to tell you!” Amber said faintly in a sincere tone, but had a
wicked glint in her eye.
Obviously, Amber was making a fool of Claudia. When Claudia finally caught on, she saw Amber
brushing past her and waving her hand, as if she was saying goodbye.
Claudia frowned. Hadn’t Amber promised that she would drive her back to town?
It turned out that Amber intended to leave Claudia alone in the suburbs. Now a violent storm was
breaking out outside, and it would take Claudia at least 20 minutes to walk to the nearest subway
station. If she wanted to call a cab, few drivers would take her order in this weather!
Standing alone in the lobby of the health spa and watching the pouring rain outside, Claudia frowned
helplessly.
Ben indeed spent the whole afternoon in Qadiri Hotel, but he wasn’t playing cards.
Sitting elegantly in the armchair with his legs crossed, Ben was looking into the dark sky out of the
window, isolated from the clamor of voices from inside the room. Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
He was neither playing cards nor chatting, but sitting there, smoking on his own.
The ashtray beside him was full of cigarette ends.
When Sean was shuffling the cards, he glanced up at the silent Ben and couldn’t help but asked, “Don’t
you want to join us?”
Before he could finish his sentence, someone gave Sean’s arm a nudge, held up his index finger to his
lips and whispered to him, “Mr. Crawford has been chain smoking the whole afternoon. He seems to be
in a bad mood. Leave him alone!”
Sean raised his eyebrows in curiosity. He couldn’t help asking again, “What happened? Didn’t he
achieve a great deal this morning? He should be super happy!”
“Who knows?”
The banker, Leo Haden, threw the dice and whispered into Sean’s ear, “Mr. Crawford has been in a
bad mood since this morning. He’s been in a sulk the whole time. When he signed the contract this
morning, he even looked livid!”
“Well, care to elaborate?”
Sean and Leo were Ben’s best friends, and they had known each other since childhood. Therefore,
there were no secrets among them.
“I happened to be in his company to get something and saw him sign the contract with his client. He
tossed the contract across the desk and lit up a cigarette. Judging from his attitude, he didn’t seem to
be doing business at all.”
This morning, Ben was like a mafia boss confronting his enemy. However, this wasn’t the thing that Leo
found the most unbelievable.
“Ben just said a few words during the whole process, but he made the deal and signed the contract!”
Hearing what Leo told him, Sean became even more curious and asked, “What did he say?”
“We’ll split it. We 70, you 30.” Leo told Sean the exact words Ben had said.
Sean was taken aback. “Gosh! And they signed it?”
What an incredible deal!
However, almost everyone was aware that a deal with the Crawford Group meant a steady earner.
Even if they only got 30% of the profit, it was still a lucrative business. So why not?
The most important thing was that they were making a deal with Ben, whom even the leading
magnates in business world were scared of. His Crawford Group had branches all over Eurasia, and
played a vital role in the financial market at home. Who dared offend someone like him?
