Chapter 14
Chapter 14
Lucy picked up her phone and made a shushing gesture to Kylah. "Hello, Mr. Adkins."
"Your company's materials don't meet the criteria. Just give up on this project!" At the thought of the 3999-dollar restaurant bill, he felt his gut twist.
Lucy frowned. "We've come to an agreement a long time ago. How could you break the deal as you please?" This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
She had put a lot of effort into that project.
"Are you still thinking of working with our company after doing all those disgusting things? I'm telling you, dream on!" How dare that little b*tch ask him for a reason?!
He hung up bluntly.
Lucy stared at her phone, her lips tightly pursed. If Mr. Adkins broke the agreement just like that, she would lose millions of dollars!
If they had signed the contract, she could still request compensation from the other party. However, the trouble was that the contract would only be signed the next day. Right then, she didn't even have the rights to reason with him!
"Did something bad happen?" Kylah asked.
Many bad things had happened that day, and Lucy was feeling very irritable. "I'm not sure if Arthur will do a background check on me, but to be on the safe side, let Caden stay at your place for half a
month!"
As for business matters, she didn't want to worry Kylah!
...
The light from the setting sun dyed the horizon red.
Arthur stood in front of the French windows, blowing out a cloud of smoke. The sun was reflected in his dark eyes.
Throughout the one thousand eight hundred and forty-five nights, he had dreamt of her every single night. He had imagined countless times how they would reunite if she was still alive.
Throughout the one thousand eight hundred and forty-five nights, he had dreamt of her every single night. He had imagined countless times how they would reunite if she was still alive.
However, never had he imagined that the woman who had once gotten jealous if he spoke to other girls...to hate him so much!
Bitterness enveloped him, slowly devouring him. He felt as though his throat had been stuffed with cotton and he couldn't even breathe.
Knock, knock, knock!
His assistant knocked on the door a few times and came in. "Sir, I've found out everything you asked me to investigate."
"Tell me." Arthur brought the cigarette to his lips with shaking hands and burned himself a few times, failing to get it between his lips.
He wanted to know about her life in the past five years, but he was very afraid that she had fallen in love with someone else. If that were true, he would not be able to hold back his urge to kill that man!
The assistant opened the file and reported the important details. "After Miss Morgan's plane crashed, she was rescued by the local military, and she went to City B to start a new life after healing from her injuries. She started a company in City B and only returned to City A recently because of business matters."
"What about other aspects?" The cigarette burned down to the filter, burning Arthur's fingers. Only then did he toss the cigarette butt into the ashtray with feigned calmness while fixing his gaze on the assistant.
"In terms of relationships, she has always had pursuers, but Miss Morgan rejected all of them. She said it's because she's still hurt from her past love, so she doesn't want to date anyone for the time being."
The report contained information on a child that was suspected to be Lucy's best friend's, but the assistant thought it wasn't important, so he ignored it.
"She rejected all of them?" Arthur's eyes shone as joy overwhelmed him slowly. He felt warmth fill his heart bit by bit.
The assistant got a shock and quickly double-checked the file. "That's right."
"Then what's with that man from today?!" Recalling the scene he had witnessed, Arthur narrowed his eyes fiercely.
How dare someone have intentions towards his woman? Did he want to die?
The assistant turned to the last page of the document and said, "His name is Freddie Adkins and he's the purchasing department manager of Bridgehive Co. He's forty years old and very stingy. He's only known Miss Morgan less than a month and they met four times over business matters. He's attracted to her beauty..."
"Enough!" How dare a man who was old, ugly, and poor fight against him for a woman? "Spread the word, if anyone dares to do business with him, it means that they're going against me!"
"Yes, sir."
