Chapter 89
Chapter 89
No wonder Jerome didn’t have time, It turned out he was wrapped up with someone else.”
Mikayla thought that he must have had it rough. Not only was he swamped with work, but he also had to handle shopping duties. Mikayla couldn’t help but feel sorry for Jerome.
Kylie happened to glance up and spotted Mikayla standing nearby.
“Mrs. Miller,” she called out politely.
Turning to Jerome, she calmly stated, “If there’s nothing else, I’ll head back to Bernhal.”
Jerome nodded in agreement. As soon as Kylie was out of view, his attention shifted to Mikayla’s empty hands. He seemed to be silently questioning why she hadn’t bought anything for him.
Unfazed by his intense gaze, Mikayla asked, “Where’s the pen?”
Jerome frowned at her indifference. He couldn’t fathom why she was acting differently after the call when he suddenly remembered Kylie’s presence.
Figuring out the reason, he patiently explained, “Kylie was here to discuss the banquet tomorrow.
“Not interested. Just hand over the pen quickly. I’ve got a hectic schedule too.” Mikayla cut him off before he could finish his words.
Jerome fell into a moment of silence before getting the fountain pen, nicely wrapped in a gift box, from
the drawer.
He softly suggested, “What if I skip the meeting and go with you?”
“No thanks,” Mikayla promptly refused, grabbing the box and striding away.
Forget about staying together! Why should she put up with Jerome? Was she not worthy of finding
another man after her divorce?
Meanwhile, Connor went to find Jerome and ran into Mikayla near the elevator. Pondering if he should
greet her, he noticed Mikayla passing by with a cold expression.
Connor wondered when she had gotten so haughty as he scratched his nose in confusion. Upon entering the CEO’s office, he noticed that Jerome didn’t look pleased, either.
“Did Kay upset you again, Jay?” Connor asked cautiously.
Jerome glared at him disapprovingly. “Is that how you refer to her? Show some respect!”
Connor was left speechless. He had always referred to Mikayla by that nickname. Besides, Jerome had never voiced any objection.
However, as the love expert he was, Connor quickly understood the situation. It seemed that Jerome had feelings so deep for Mikayla that even a nickname held significance for him.
With that insight, Connor tactfully changed his wording. “I see that Mikayla dropped by. She looks a bit
upset, though. Did something happen between you two? Belongs to © n0velDrama.Org.
Jerome shot him a frowning glance. He wasn’t keen on satisfying Connor’s curiosity, but he had no clue
bout Mikayla’s thoughts. In the end, he briefly explained what happened earlier.
“So, you’re saying Mikayla’s mad because Kylie was here? But Kylie was just doing her job; Mikayla can’t be that unreasonable!
Think again, Jay. Did you miss something?” Connor remarked, confused by Jerome’s account.
“Nothing. Kylie came in, grabbed the box, and walked out,” Jerome replied in annoyance.
However, Connor caught onto something in his words and questioned, “A box? What box?”
“My secretary got a birthday gift ready for Mr. Carter, I planned to send it today, but when Kylie showed up for work updates, I had her take the gift to him,” Jerome stated.
Hearing that, Connor quickly grasped the situation. He chided, “That’s probably why Mikayla’s upset.”
Jerome frowned and questioned, “But why would she be upset about this? Mr. Carter has been looking out for me since I was a kid. Is it wrong to send some appreciation gifts on his birthday?”
Connor sighed deeply and clarified, “It’s not wrong to send gifts for a birthday, but Mikayla might have thought you got gifts for someone other than Mr. Davidson Senior.
“But not to worry! Once you clear things up with her, she’ll brighten up in no time.”
Seeing Connor’s proud and silly face, Jerome scoffed. “Why should I bother explaining things to her? It’s
not my concern if she’s upset over such minor things.”
Upon hearing his words, Connor kindly advised, “It’s best to clarify things sooner rather than later.
“Women might get upset over one thing initially, but if you don’t talk to her or reassure her, they tend to bring up all past issues and grievances. It gets much tougher to sort things out later on.”
