A Relentless Pursuit for Love

Chapter 53

Chapter 53

Everything happened in a split second.

Before Sage could even move away, she was being pulled aside. Losing her balance, Sage fell into the arms of the person who had yanked her out of the way. She crashed into his chest. She immediately felt a piercing pain in her nose.

As he was anxious, Jace had accidentally yanked her a little too vigorously. Sage’s head was resting against his chest, and she could hear the beating of his heart.

It was an unfamiliar feeling.

Sage froze.

She had been married to Jace for three years, but he had never once touched her. This was the first time that she had been this close to him.

Sage, of course, had imagined what it would feel like to be in Jace’s arms. She thought that it would be comfortable and warm, but his chest was as hard as a rock.

Had he been working out a lot? Why were his abs so hard?

Feeling her nose, Sage was relieved to find that it was straight and not crooked.

“I am so sorry…” The clumsy staff member started apologizing frantically at the thought of having been almost responsible for a terrible accident.

Jace replied sterly, “Be more cautious next time.”

Even though the staff did not know who Jace was, judging by his outfit and imposing look, the staff member assumed that Jace must be someone influential and respectable. The staff member quickly nodded his head and ran back to his work.

The pain in her nose had finally subsided. After the staff member had left, only Sage and Jace remained backstage. The air suddenly tumed cold and silent.

Both of them remained in the same position. After a while, they quickly realized that they were standing extremely close to each other.

Things were bound to happen when a man and a woman stood this close to each other.

Feeling a rush of electricity from their head to their toes, Jace and Sage froze and immediately backed away from each other at the same time.

Sage unconsciously wrapped her arms around herself while Jace flinched. Both their ears turned red.

The atmosphere turned slightly awkward.

Sage took a deep breath, wondering if she should slap Jace for almost taking advantage of her.

But on second thought, Jace was only trying to save her. He should be praised and thanked rather than being slapped across his face.

Sage was having a mental breakdown while Jace had quickly regained his cool and aloof demeanor. The first thing he did was scold Sage. “You should’ve been more careful with where you stand. What if the cabinet had really fallen on you?”

Rather than sounding worried, Jace sounded cold and indifferent. All Sage could hear was him criticizing her. NôvelDrama.Org holds text © rights.

Sage, who had never been criticized, quickly defended herself, “Sir, if it wasn’t for you, I would’ve been able to avoid the cabinet. Thank you so much for your “heroic” act. But mind you, not all ladies are weak and frail as you think; not all ladies need to be protected by men.” Jace frowned
