Chapter 249
Chapter 249
Isaac was standing beside her, the look in his eyes cold.
Patricia cocked her eyebrow and looked at the time. "There's still one hour of lunchtime, Mr. Arnold." She was mad that Isaac didn't wait for her when he promised they'd get lunch together.
Rose waved at Patricia. "Are you friends with Zachary, Patricia? You guys seem close." She shot Zachary a smile as she said that.
Zachary answered, "Good eye, Miss Ortega. Yes, and I'm currently courting Miss Aniston."
Rose's eyes widened a little. "Nice taste for women, Zachary. She's beautiful and capable. I bet she'll be a good wife." She then held Isaac's hand. "Let's go, Isaac."
Isaac was looking at Patricia darkly, which earned him an eye-rolling from Patricia. She was too mad to talk to him.
After Rose and Isaac left, Patricia finished her lunch as well. She put her cutlery down and sipped some water.
Zachary smiled. "The Ortegas are good friends of the Arnolds, especially the old ladies. They probably will try to match Rose and Isaac up."
Patricia had known Isaac for a long time, and only now had she finally learned everything about the
man. The Isaac I'd known back then was just the tip of the iceberg. "I heard about that as well." And I think I finally knew why Elizabeth took me to that party yesterday.
Zachary's sights turned to her necklace. Wait, that's Celestial Tears. He had tried to bid for it just so he could give it to her. But she already has it?
Patricia noticed his staring, so she looked down and realized her necklace was exposed. She tucked it back into her shirt. "It's a fake." She smiled. "I bought it off a bazaar."
Zachary was at the auction, so he could recognize the necklace anywhere. Hence, he knew Patricia was lying. He was no fool. And he also knew who won the bid. Losing out to Isaac was not a total failure on his part, but losing the woman in front of him to Isaac would be a different story, though. I won't allow that!
He gazed at Patricia and held her hand. "Ever since I saw you six years ago, I can no longer fall for anyone else. I've always been waiting for you." All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
She looked at his hand and tried to pull her hand back, but he had an iron grip.
"Please, won't you give me a chance, Tricia?" There was genuine love in his eyes, but there was also sadness.
He had been waiting for her all these years. Back then, he thought she would be his as long as he stayed with her, but Isaac's appearance changed his mind. Just because Zachary stayed with her didn't mean she would be his. Eventually, he started getting scared. He was scared someone might take her away.
Patricia would be lying if she said she wasn't moved. Zachary was handsome, capable, and successful. Any woman would fall for him, and he would be the best husband for anyone. Anyone but her. Still, she nodded.
"I'll think about it." She pulled her hand back. "I should get to work now."
Zachary stood up. "I'll send you off." He paid the bill and went ahead with her. They strolled down to the junction and waited for the green light.
When the green light lit up, Patricia took a step forward, but Zachary held her hand and took her to the other side of the street. Patricia looked down at her hand. It was completely covered by his big, warm hand.
She had to say it felt warm being held this way—it felt like someone was concerned about her. A smile flashed in her eyes. Zachary was the one person she didn't want to hurt, so she couldn't refuse him outright. She had to come up with a way to make him give up on her without hurting him.
