Chapter 961: In Name Only
There is an order to toasting, starting with the main table where Orion’s relatives are seated, then moving down the line.
As they made their way down, Orion and Luna intentionally placed Elijah’s table last.
This way they could sit and eat with their friends.
It was a celebration, so Elijah wouldn’t refuse, and neither would Xander and Evan.
“Are you two hungry? Sit down and eat something,” Freya said.
Orion pulled out a chair for Luna, and she sat down.
Orion sat beside her.
Xander looked at him. “Can you even eat anymore?”
Orion was about to put a piece of lobster in his mouth when Xander’s words made him furrow his brow. “Why can’t I eat? This is my wedding, I should eat more. Your words are strange.”
Xander laughed. “I thought you’d be happy and satisfied. Isn’t there a saying like that? Love quenches thirst?”
Orion said, “Try only drinking water to feel satisfied.”
“I don’t have love, so of course I can’t feel satisfied just drinking water, but you do.”
Orion popped the lobster into his mouth, sipped his shark fin soup, and carefully tasted it. “This dish doesn’t have vinegar in it, so why do you sound so sour?”
Xander, “…”
Sacha said, “You’re the only single one amongst us, who else can we tease? Being so cheesy on stage must’ve displeased him.”
Xander dutifully served Orion some food. “Come on, eat quickly. It’s your wedding, you should eat more.”
He wanted to shut Orion up.
Before he said something that he couldn’t handle.
Blaming himself for his loose tongue. Teasing amongst this group of lovey-dovey couples, wasn’t that asking for trouble?
Orion also served him some food. “Amongst us, you are the pitiful one. You should eat more. I want to eat, my wife serves me, but you, a single dog, who’s going to serve you?”
Xander, “…”
He confessed, “I was wrong, I was wrong. Can we drop it now?”
Orion smiled. “Why would you make me feel uncomfortable on my big day?”
“I’m sorry, I really am sorry.” He smiled, “Can we stop teasing me, let’s eat, let’s eat. Come, let me pour you some wine.”
He walked over to Orion’s side to personally pour him wine as an apology.
But Orion didn’t let him. “Today is my wedding. How can I let you pour for me? It’s my celebration, you’re not qualified to pour. Wait until you get married, then you can pour.”
Xander, “…”
There was a moment of silence at the table.
Suddenly, laughter filled the room.
Freya interjected, “Alright, alright, stop playing tough, hurry and eat. You’ll have to entertain guests later, there are many people here today, some you’ll have to see off personally. We won’t bother you, we’ll head back to the hotel after the wedding ends.”
Evan agreed, “Sister-in-law is right, we won’t disturb you. Today is a day of joy.”
Luna felt embarrassed by their words.
“I’ve known Orion for so long, today is just a formality, there’s no need for this.”
Orion spooned some soup for Luna. “You haven’t eaten anything since this morning, eat a bit more. Freya is right, we still have things to attend to later.”
Luna lowered her gaze, a gentle smile in her eyes.
Although it was just a simple gesture, she felt warmth from his attention to detail.
Orion and Luna quickly ate a bit before they were called away.
The wedding wasn’t over yet.
The newlyweds were back to work.
Freya and Elijah left after the wedding.
But Xander didn’t leave with them.
In the car, Sacha asked, “Is Xander angry? He didn’t leave with us.”
Evan said, “If he keeps following us, he’ll stay single forever.”Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
There were no girls around them.
Always staying with them would indeed lead to being single forever.
Sacha thought for a moment, “Seems likely.”
“Aunt.” Kai leaned on her shoulder, “I don’t want to go back to the hotel.”
“Not go back? Where do you want to go?” Kai tilted her head, thinking, “Aunt, staying at the hotel, don’t you feel bored?”
Of course, Sacha didn’t want to stay at the hotel; the reason she wanted to come back was to relax and unwind, not to be bored.
Evan looked at Kai in the rearview mirror, “Is she the apple of your aunt’s eye? It seems like she’s thinking of that.”
Kai held Sacha’s arm affectionately, “Of course, Aunt and I are close.”
Sacha gently rubbed her head. With such a show of affection, she couldn’t say no.
“Tell me, where do you want to go? Aunt will take you.” Sacha said.
Evan said, “Kai calls her auntie, does she even know which way is east or west?”
Sacha raised her head, “I’m willing to.”
Evan nodded helplessly. “Alright, alright, I give up. Where do you want to go?”
Sacha thought for a moment, “How about going to the amusement park?”
Kids loved those places.
Kai immediately agreed, “Okay, okay.”
“Give the car behind us a call and let them know we’re not going back to the hotel.” Evan said.
Freya and Elijah were in the car behind them with Morton.
Morton seemed to be getting claustrophobic in the car, his mood turning sour, on the verge of crying.
Freya couldn’t hold him; he kept squirming.
Elijah held him and asked, “Are you hungry?”
Morton had been sleeping at the wedding and hadn’t eaten much, so waking up in the car left him feeling really bad.
Freya looked outside, trying to find a nearby restaurant to buy him something to eat.
Ring, ring…
At that moment, her phone rang, and she answered.
It was Sacha’s voice on the line, “Sister-in-law, we’re not going back to the hotel for now.”
“Where are you going?” Freya asked.
Sacha said, “Kai thought staying in the hotel would be boring, so I thought I’d take him to the amusement park.”
“Your condition doesn’t allow for play.” Freya frowned slightly.
Given Sacha’s condition, she was afraid that an accident might happen, outweighing the fun.
“I know, I won’t play. I’ll have Evan take Kai instead.” Sacha said.
Freya nodded. “Just be careful.”
Sacha assured her, “I will be.”
The call ended, and Elijah asked, “What are they up to?”
“They’re going to the amusement park,” Freya replied.
Elijah suggested, “Let’s take Morton along too.”
Freya looked at him in surprise.
“Shouldn’t we accompany our child? Let someone else take care of him?” Elijah felt that since they had come back for a few days and weren’t working, it was a good opportunity to spend quality time with their child.
He was trying to make up for the time he had missed with the kids.
Especially Kai, whom Elowen had raised, and he and Freya hadn’t really been involved.
They had spent more time with Morton.
Freya nodded, instructing the driver to follow Evan’s car.
Evan saw that their car was following too and informed Sacha, “Looks like your brother and sister-in-law are here too.”
Sacha looked back and saw their car.
She smiled and said, “They probably don’t want to go back to the hotel; sitting there can be so dull.”
“Indeed.” Kai agreed with her.
Sacha chuckled, “You’re quite clever.”
Kai said, “It’s because I follow my aunt, that’s why I’m so smart.”
Evan was amused by him.
Sacha laughed too.
Suddenly, a hint of melancholy welled up in her heart.
If she were Kai’s real aunt and heard him say that, she would feel so close, but since she was an adopted child and had no blood ties to Elijah, she wasn’t Kai’s real aunt, just a in title.
She lowered her gaze softly.
Evan sensed her change in mood and asked, “Are you overthinking again?”
