Chapter 19: Let’s Work Together
Chapter 19: Let’s Work Together
Amber's eyes darted between Marshall and Claudia’s faces. At last, she gave a smug smile and
taunted,
“What a shameless couple!”
Amber’s eyes moved to Conrad on the bed, and something popped into her mind instantly, “So, who’s
the real father of the baby?”
Marshall stared at Amber; his nonchalant look unchanged.
However, Amber didn’t notice it at all. Instead, she went on at this moment, “No wonder you were so
excited when Claudia gave birth! It turns out that you are the real father of this bastard!"
Marshall clenched his fists in rage, his handsome face turning pale, and growled word by word, “You
should be grateful that you're a woman, Amber!”
“...”
Marshall strode towards Amber, grabbed her arms, and pinned her against the wall, not in a romantic
way, but with resentment and fury.
Seething with indignation, Marshall pinched Amber’s chin violently, as if he was going to break it.
Amber had never seen Marshall so angry, crazy and aggressive.
“Otherwise, I would hurt you!” Amber shivered with fear when Marshall’s stern threat was ringing in her
ears.
Apparently, Marshall was not joking.
Amber didn't dare imagine what would happen if she were a man.
“Who knows what’s happened between you and Claudia? How dare you blame it on me when you’re
cheating with her?”
Amber defended herself, wrenched herself free and ran away.
She looked so flustered, as if she had just had a narrow escape.
Marshall caught his breath, recovered himself and handed a dry towel to Claudia promptly, saying, “Dry Original content from NôvelDrama.Org.
yourself now, in case you catch a cold. You’re a nursing mother, and you can’t take medications.”
Claudia took the towel and smiled to express her gratitude.
Amber was behaving ferociously just now, and Marshall wondered what had turned her into a beast.
“Don’t you get it, Claudia? It’s just because you can't speak that Amber dares to treat you so
dreadfully!”
Marshall stared at the woman in front of him with a deep frown, feeling sorry for her.
“There’s nothing easier than bullying a mute!”
When he finished his sentence, Marshall couldn't help but regret it and explained, “Just saying. Don’t
take it to heart.”
In fact, Marshall didn’t regard Claudia as a mute deep down inside.
She wasn't a born mute but born healthy! It was just that something went wrong with her vocal cords
that she was unable to make sounds like normal people for so many years.
Claudia dropped her eyes, her eyelashes fluttering slightly.
Claudia understood the truth, but she had to deal with a serious consequence once she got her voice
back!
“You have your own kid now. If you don’t want him to be bullied like this in the future, you should try to
speak, Claudia!”
Marshall breathed a sigh, paused, and added after some hesitation, “If...”
He hesitated again.
After a few moments, Marshall noticed the wet clothes Claudia was wearing. He was startled a little,
and then went on immediately, “Get changed first!”
After Marshall left, Claudia looked down at the baby in her arms, deep in thought.
Marshall went back to her room 20 minutes later.
He also brought a bowl of hot chicken soup with him.
“I hope you won’t catch a cold. Since you can’t take any medications, have some chicken soup!”
Marshall put the soup on the bedside table and urged Claudia to eat the soup before it got cold.
Claudia wondered how Marshall got a bowl of hot soup in such a short time, but as the soup flowed into
her stomach, her mind was thrown into a turmoil.
She was aware that Marshall had feelings for her. What’s more, she knew he had cared about her all
these years.
However, Claudia wouldn't accept him because she couldn’t promise him anything.
The only thing she would get was unnecessary gossip. Therefore, Claudia looked up and said to
Marshall in sign language, “Marshall, don’t do this anymore! It’s not worth it!”
“Don’t be stupid, Claudia. I’m the one to decide whether it’s worth it or not!” Marshall rubbed her head
with a smile.
He was doing it gently, as well as lovingly.
However, Claudia still couldn't accept it.
She kept shaking her head and explained in sign language, “I hope you’ll find the one, but obviously,
that person won’t be me!”
That was a flat refusal.
Marshall’s eyes darkened. He bent over and looked up slowly, his eyes filled with affection, something
Claudia pretended she didn’t understand.
“You’re not a fortuneteller, and how do you know it won’t be you?”
Marshall gave a faint but bright smile, which was so refreshing and inspiring to her. Staring at the man
who had been by her side from her teens, Claudia actually didn't know what to do for a time.
“Anyway, I don’t think Ben and you will make a great couple. He does nothing but hurt you!” Marshall
commented.
Claudia was lost for words because she didn’t think so.
“But, since you like him, I wish you nothing but happiness for now. However, if he hurts you or makes
you sad...”
Marshall drawled deliberately and stared gently at her with a sweet smile. “I’ll be by your side whenever
you need me. As long as you turn around, you will see me have your back!”
Marshall rubbed her soft hair again and lifted her face, smiling. “You hear me? I’ll be waiting for you!”
Claudia’s body went stiff, her facial expression blank. She failed to respond.
Marshall couldn’t care less but smiled. He turned around under her gaze and reminded her to eat the
soup before he left.
Tenderness and thoughtfulness were the best weapons to win one’s heart.
However, Claudia felt puzzled. How come she had never had any feelings for Marshall growing up with
him?
It might be because she had embedded that man in her mind for too long!
Meanwhile, the whole scene was witnessed by Amber outside the ward. She also heard what Marshall
said just now.
So he was willing to wait for Claudia...
Her eyes gleaming, Amber watched Marshall’s tall back in the corridor. Suddenly, she seemed to think
of something, and the smile on her face widened.
The next moment, Amber caught up with Marshall and asked, “Mr. Cooper, can I have a word with
you?”
Astonished, Marshall frowned in annoyance and responded by asking, “Really? You need to talk to
me?”
“Yes." Amber smiled, “It’s about Claudia.”
“Well?”
Marshall frowned. Thinking of the fact that Claudia just gave birth and was too weak to deal with any
more drama, Marshall simply smiled, not expressing an opinion.
“I heard what you said to Claudia just now!” Amber said frankly and continued steadily, “Since you still
love her, then we have the same goal. How about we work together for this?”
As an old saying goes, the enemy of one’s enemy was his friend.
Amber met Marshall's gaze and added, “I didn’t want to get involved in Ben and Claudia’s marriage
because after all, they are married, and now they have a boy. Who wants to be the other person
sabotaging her sister’s marriage?”
“Do you even have a point?” Marshall said straightforwardly.
Amber dropped her head. “Since you love Claudia, and I love Ben, how about we work together and
split them. We can both be with the one we love, and everybody will be happy!”
