ALANA EPILOGUE

ALANA EPILOGUE

The party had ended. Pack members had had a good time and were retreating to their homes, Paxton had fallen asleep in his carrier which was occupying the backseat, and Axel and I had just come back home but we were still in the car parked in the driveway.

“That was fun. A whole lot was going on there,” I laughed as I spoke. “Lexi and Tyler were so wasted, that they fought for the prize in the open mic competition. I think they’re going to succeed in making a baby tonight. Did you see the way he was looking at her the entire time?”

“I didn’t,” Axel frowned.

“Well, I’m happy for them. Tyler is finally opening back up to things. Coral’s passing has been hard on him. On both of them.”

“It’s been hard on all of us.”

“You’re right, Axel. You are right. The pack had fun. Paxton too. He had so much fun, he fell asleep hours before bedtime.”

“The party was fun, but I would have still preferred to stay home with you.”

“Well, we’re home now. Happy?”

“Very.”

“Jerad came to me today at the party.”

I felt his brows draw together. “Why?”

“To apologize, Axel. No need to get your fur up.”

He gave me a half grunt. A sound I now loved hearing so much.

“He also wanted to apologize to you but he didn’t know how to or what your reaction would be.”

“Good for him,” Axel said with a straight face. I was sure that this wasn’t the conversation he wanted to take part in, so I changed the topic.

“Your parents want us to come by with Paxton this week. Valentina said they’d keep an eye on him and we can have most of the time to ourselves.”

“I thought the reason for the party was for them to keep an eye on him?” He made quotes with his hands.

“Apparently, that’s not enough. At least we get to go on a run together, and maybe a date. It’s been forever. I think Rox won’t be able to walk when I shift.”

“I don’t know about that, but I know that you won’t be able to walk after tonight.”

Knowing Axel, I could have sworn he was going to say something like that. I slapped him on his shoulder and threw a glance back at Paxton sleeping peacefully in the back.

Everything I’d ever wanted was right here with me. Everything and more.

“What are you thinking about?”

“Nothing,” I swallowed. “Just thinking about how lucky I am to have you,” I threw his words back at him mostly because I couldn’t form words of my own.

“I see what you did there.”

“Oh, did you?”

“Come here.”

He pulled me from my seat to his lap on the other side of the car in one clean move, causing me to squeak. “Axel!”

He made sure I got comfortable before he continued. “What else do you feel lucky for?”

“If I tell you, will you tell me yours?”

“If it entices me enough, maybe I might.”

“Fair enough,” I nodded. “I am… lucky to have a pack that loves me and respects me. A pack that’s genuinely happy for my growth and gifts.”

He just stared into my eyes, his expression soft. “What else?”

“I’m lucky to have him,” I threw my head in the direction of where our baby was snoring lightly. “He’s the best.”

“If I didn’t agree with you, I would have been really hurt, princess.” I laughed into the collar of his

white sleeves, inhaling all of his scent. The one that comforted me with such ease. “What else are you lucky to have?”

I watched him. The soft lights from the house cast on his face through the windscreen and I just stared at him and breathed his breath for a minute.

“I am lucky to be in love with you, Axel. I wake up every day to see your face in bed with me and I think about how I do not deserve this kind of life. This kind of love…”

He cut me short. “Shushhh. Don’t say that. If there’s anyone, it's me who doesn't deserve you. Do you know how extraordinary you are?”

“You flatter me, Alpha Axel,” I let my head fall on his broad chest.

He shook his head. “It’s not flattery. It’s the truth. And I love you for that. I love you, Alana. I love you when your eyes shine with the widest smile there ever is. I love you when you put the pups in the pack, the omegas, and even those who treated you badly before yourself.”

My voice got stuck in my throat. He continued even when I started to sob.

“I love you when you frown. I love you when you sleep. I love you when you snore. I love you when you make the most terrible meals. I love you when you take care of our son like he’s the only thing worth taking care of. I love you, Alana. With the whole of my being. Till after my death.”

What more could I say? What more could I want? What more could I ask for?

I knew that forming an epistle like his wouldn't be possible since I was already a sobbing mess, I just dipped my head and caught his lips in between mine.

Before the kiss got desperate and needy, I pulled back. “And I love you too, Alpha Axel. More than you could ever imagine.”

“You know what this means, Alana,” he opened the door to his side and slipped out with me in his arms.

“We have a baby in the back, Axel,”

“Thank the goddess he’s asleep. Now, shut up and kiss me.”

Gladly, baby.
