Chapter 84: An Old Enemy (3)

Victoria and Tyler also stood, and they watched them exit the house in silence. Only when Victoria gave her son a piercing glare did he move to follow after them, laughing lowly.

“Are you done?” Becca asked, peeking through the gap of the barely opened window. She stayed on the car after they got here, saying that it’s not necessary for her to come inside too.

Althea pulled open the door of the backseat and made Kai enter then closed the door again, sighing loudly. “It’s done. Have you booked a hotel room already?”

Becca nodded her head, “Yes, the hotel’s 20 minutes away from here.”

Althea nodded back and sat on the wheels. “Is that so? Then let’s go.”

While Althea was wearing her seatbelts, Becca leaned on her seat and stared outside, thinking. Althea was about to start the engine when she noticed this. Resting her hands above the wheel, she asked her worriedly.

“Is something wrong?”

“…I” She looked back at her before looking away. It was short but Althea saw guilt in her eyes. She failed to understand why for a moment. But when she sees the hesitation in her eyes, Althea thought of something she might say.

Althea gave a small, tight smile. “It’s okay Becca. I won’t blame you.”

The guilt finally resurfaced. “Are you really okay with it?”

Althea nodded. “Of course, if you want to go, I won’t stop you. But if you want to stay, you are very welcomed to. It’s your choice.”

Becca was silent for a while before sighing heavily. “I’m really sorry.”

Althea reached out to give her a pat on her shoulder. “No need to feel sorry, I understand that you need money. Who doesn’t? But until you find another job, you have to stay with us. I have to compensate you with the burned things you have in the shop.”

“Thank you… And sorry.”

“No worries, I hope you get a job soon. If you still can’t, feel free to come back anytime.”

Becca nodded; her shoulder relaxed. It was obvious that the heavy weight that was weighing on her mind was lifted, she has now a small smile on her face.

Althea watched her leaning on her seat and look outside with a smile. She’s sad to let Becca go after Emily, but still, she can’t keep on holding to them forever. Meeting and parting are a natural way of life, there’s no guaranteed that they can see each other again but at least the possibility of that is not zero. Besides, the world is round.

Having a peace in herself, Althea was about to go when someone knocked on her window. She turned to look and saw Tyler looking down on her. Althea let out a fake smile.

To think that he followed her here and to keep on bothering her.

Kai also heard the knock, after not talking for a while because he sensed that his mother and the other woman was having a conversation, he finally opened his mouth with a smile. He beamed at Tyler outside the window, he waves, the other waved back. “Tyler!”

Althea saw the exchange, although they already showed that they were both close, Althea still can’t get used to the sight. To think that her kid, who she spent a year to get close to after being apart for 2 years, got close to this stranger for a couple of days.

She rolled the window down and asked. “What?”

“I just want to tell you that if something happens, contact me immediately.” Tyler said. “Also, I’ll be keeping my eyes on the case too. I’ll help you sue him.”

Althea widens her fake smile. “No thanks. I can manage, also, no danger will happen to us later on, so you don’t have to concern yourself. But, if maybe there will, we’ll be okay and there will be no reason to contact you.”

Tyler stared down at her before sighing. “Fine, suit yourself. But I’ll still be keeping my eyes on the case, got it?”

Althea stared up at him before also sighing loudly. “Fine, suit yourself. Then we’ll be going now, and I need you to stay away, got it?”Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.
