Chapter 305 Her Guardian Angel

Josephine looked down at her stomach. She wasn’t sure about the concept of pregnancy stages, so she decided to come up with an answer on the spot. “Five months.”

Lewis chuckled softly in response. “The belly of a five-month pregnancy isn’t this small.”

Even though he was laughing, Josephine couldn’t see any traces of mirth on his face save for the corners of his lips, which were curved upward.

She thought for a moment before correcting her answer. “Two months.”

“The belly has yet to grow if it’s a two-month pregnancy.”

The young woman gave up at that moment, resulting in her shoulders sagging in defeat. “I’m not going to become a mommy then,” she gestured.

This time, Lewis laughed in amusement. However, all he did was guffaw before letting out a sigh.

He stroked Josephine’s hair gently while saying, “Alright. Let’s go

home.”

The latter pretended to lose all strength in her body as she collapsed into Lewis’ arms. Then, she looked up at him coquettishly.

“I’m too tired to walk,” she gestured.

Obviously, the young woman wanted Lewis to carry her on his back.

He bowed his head to look at her for a moment, noticing the cunning glint in her eyes.

Other than that, her eyes were also filled with trust and sincerity toward him. She didn’t even put up her guard against him at all.

Lewis stared at Josephine for a long time, the intensity of his stare elongating time itself, creating an uncomfortable unease within her.

She kept feeling that the man acted peculiarly, but she couldn’t put her finger on it.

The young woman couldn’t understand what was going on. Lewis leaned in all of a sudden and left a kiss on her lips before she could piece her thoughts together.

Josephine widened her eyes in confusion while gazing at him.

As Lewis pressed a gentle kiss against her lips, he quickly moved away, only to embrace her tightly, encircling her with his arms.

The touch of his lips continued to tingle at the corner of Josephine’s mouth. He remained in that position, motionless, his eyes shut in silence.

“I want you to stop forgetting.”

The sentence came out as a murmur. Josephine couldn’t understand what he meant.

All she could do was stare at him unblinkingly. They were so close to each other that there was only a sliver of space between them. Their breaths mingled, brushing against each other’s

faces.

For some reason, Josephine felt her heart aching for Lewis. Even her nose started to feel prickly, which she couldn’t understand why.

She slowly raised her hand to caress Lewis’ cheek.

She felt a prickly sensation when she traced it down to his chin.

It turned out that he was starting to grow a beard.

She had no idea when exactly he started growing facial hair, but she didn’t like it at all.

Lewis hugged her for some time before he finally released her. “Let’s go. I’ll carry you on my

back.”

Josephine regained her senses as well. She clambered onto the stool and hopped onto the man’s back eagerly once he turned his back to her. After that, she wrapped her arms around

his neck.

Lewis maintained a firm grip on Josephine’s thighs after she was positioned properly on his back. Then, he left the private room.

The young woman was so light that she weighed like nothing on his back.

Many people glanced in their direction when Lewis walked toward the exit. Of course, the latter simply ignored them and walked out of the restaurant as though nothing happened.

Josephine hugged his neck tightly the whole time while looking very smug. In a way, she resembled a proud peacock. Her action was her way of announcing to the entire restaurant that Lewis was her favorite person in the whole wide world.

She wanted to announce that the man carrying her right now was her family member as well as her guardian angel.

Right now, she was riding on the shoulders of her guardian angel. No one could bully her ever again.

At the same time, Josephine was flaunting how joyful she was.

The hotel was a mile away from where they were right now. Since Lewis didn’t drive here, he decided to walk back to the hotel with Josephine on his back by taking the sidewalk.

The trees on both sides of the sidewalk had flowers growing beautifully amidst their leaves. Occasionally, a few flowers would float down from above. Josephine might not recognize them, but she could still feel their weight when they landed on her head.

There were petals all over the sidewalk as well. Every time the wind rustled through the leaves,

a gentle cascade of petals would drift down before slowly scattering across the sidewalk. The air was permeated with a strong whiff of floral fragrance.

Josephine watched the petals fall all around her. She then lowered her head slightly and rested on Lewis’ shoulder.

At that moment, her eyelids started to grow heavy. However, the sight of the beautiful scenery in front of her made her unwilling to doze off. She could only do her best to resist the sleep.

Meanwhile, Lewis trampled on the petals as he walked down the sidewalk slowly.

Occasionally, passersby would walk past them while casting jealous glances in their direction.

No one uttered a single word. Lewis continued walking down the sidewalk. It was just like how he used to walk home with Josephine on his back countless times in the past.

The latter knew very well that she’d be home the next time she woke up.

Lewis returned to the hotel one hour later.

He put Josephine on the bed, who appeared to be sleeping soundly.

Afterward, he sat down and took off her shoes before tucking her in properly.

Lewis gazed at her for some time. He reached out to tuck away the stray locks on her face behind her ear, his fingers dancing around her cheeks freely.

The room was very quiet, and the curtains flapped gently in the light breeze.

A while later, the man stood up and walked out of the bedroom. Finally, he closed the door

behind him.

Just as Lewis was about to grab a chair and wedge it against the doorknob, he froze momentarily, hesitating about his decision. In the end, he put the chair back to where it belonged.

Then, he closed the suite door behind him and left the hotel immediately.

The sky started to darken.

Meanwhile, Sierra had already woken up in the hospital.

She weakly opened her eyes and tilted her head to look at the side. Her eyes widened slightly at the sight of the man standing next to her.

The woman never expected to see Kiran Alvarez standing by her bed the moment she woke up instead of his brother, Lewis.

Upon recalling the alley incident, Sierra could feel her heart sinking. She wanted to sit up but found her body too weak to comply, and she was compelled to collapse back onto the mattress.

Kiran just gazed at her impassively. Sierra couldn’t see his eyes behind the glasses he wore due to the lighting in the ward. All she knew was that he was looking at her.

“Why are you here?” she asked with a frown on her face.

Kiran sank onto a chair next to the hospital bed. He continued gazing at Sierra for a few seconds before answering, “I heard you got hurt, so I came here to visit you. Is no one looking after you, Miss Woods?”

That question stabbed Sierra right in her heart.

She felt sadness engulfing her whole. The memory of Lewis’ attitude toward her and the things he had said prior to her suicide made her feel hollow on the inside.

Kiran pressed on the subject. “What’s wrong, Miss Woods? Why did you suddenly feel like committing suicide?”

The corner of Sierra’s mouth twitched slightly. She didn’t feel like talking to Kiran at all.

She wasn’t aware of the deep-seated hostility that existed between the Alvarez siblings. However, she did have knowledge of the intense animosity they held for one another on the night when Kiran deliberately lured Lewis to the cabin.

Kiran didn’t get mad at Sierra for not answering his questions. He continued, “Is it because of

Chairman Alvarez?”

Surprise appeared on Sierra’s face, but she continued frowning while studying Kiran’s face for

some time.

“What do you want?”

Kiran replied, “I’m just here to visit you because I’m concerned about you. Don’t be so hostile.

to me.”

“Do you really think I’ll believe that? Are you trying to find out more information regarding Lewis? Just give up! I won’t tell you anything!”

Kiran just smiled. “Chairman Alvarez is really lucky to have an infatuated woman like you loving him. I wonder if he loves you like how much you love him.”

His nonchalant words kept tearing Sierra’s heart apart. Her chest started heaving up and down violently, either out of anger or sadness.

She gripped the corners of her blanket, feeling waves of pain flaring from her injured wrist.

The sight of Kiran’s faint smile made her force herself to calm down. Once she did so, she retorted, “Are you trying to drive a wedge between us?”

Kiran thought for a moment. He decided to provide her with an honest answer. “Well, if you insist on thinking that way, I suppose it works too.”

Sierra didn’t want to waste her breath on the man anymore, so she turned away and refused to look at him. “I won’t believe anything you say to me! Just leave already!”

“What if I tell you I can make Josephine disappear?” Kiran suddenly piped up in a relaxed

manner.

That left Sierra looking quite surprised. She turned back to face the man again. “What did you just say?”

Kiran reiterated, “I said I can make Josephine disappear. Not only that, but I always have ways to erase your involvement, so he won’t ever suspect you. I wonder if you believe me now, Miss

Woods.”
