Chapter 522
Xavier wanted to rebuild his business empire, so he had to socialize with other businessmen as well. The party wasn't just a simple gathering. "Alright. In that case, I'll arrange for more people to go with you," said Mark.
The Lumber family had tried to deal with Xavier before. However, they'd misunderstood Jeremiah for him back then. Since Jeremiah had been terribly ill, he'd been sent abroad to receive treatment. After that, Xavier had slowly expanded Lane Group, and he'd also gradually removed members from the previous generation of the Lumber family. At that moment, only the useless members remained.
Sunny had even kneeled in front of Xavier before so that he could survive. Xavier hadn't killed him, but it wasn't out of mercy. Instead, he'd been worried that the other wealthy families would gang up on him to protect themselves. After all, anyone could do anything when they were forced into a corner.
"Sure," he answered.
Mark thought of something else and asked, "Since everyone is taking their partners, are you taking Mrs. Lane with you?"
He remembered how Yvette used to be upset because Xavier had been unwilling to take her to events like this. Mark figured Xavier could finally right that wrong.
When Xavier heard that, he stayed silent. After a moment, he shook his head. "There's no need for that."
Mark couldn't understand it. "Why? This is the best opportunity for you to improve your relationship with her."This content belongs to Nô/velDra/ma.Org .
"What do you think the people from the upper class will think of me when I appear at the party?" Xavier asked. Mark was stunned for a moment, and he finally remembered that Xavier couldn't see anything at all. "They'll definitely talk behind my back. If I take Yvvy along, she'll have to go through all that as well," Xavier explained.
Previously, Mark had been amazed at how calm Xavier was and how he didn't seem to care about being blind. However, now it seemed like Xavier did care about losing his sight after all.
Regardless, Xavier was different from everyone else. He'd regained his memories in just a short while, and he knew he had to live his life well despite being blind.
"You're right. I was wrong to have overlooked it."
No one would willingly let their beloved partners receive criticism and suffer with them.
When Mark looked up, he saw Yvette was halfway down the stairs. She'd heard everything Xavier had said earlier. She stood there and didn't move at all when he spoke. As she thought about what he'd said she was speechless.
She politely kept quiet and headed back up so that Xavier wouldn't feel embarrassed.
When Xavier was about to leave for the party that night, Noah found out about it and wanted to go too. He was bored out of his mind by staying at home every day. "Mom, can we go?" "No, it's a business party. So, let's not disturb Mr. Xavier, alright?"
Noah tried acting coy, but it didn't work that day. Mark silently watched from the side and felt grateful to her. When they left, he secretly said to her, Mrs. Lane, you still care about Mr Lane, don't you?"
"I just don't like to attend cocktail parties," she coldly answered.
That was when Mark realized that Yvette was as stubborn as Xavier. "I'm sure Mr. Lane will be ecstatic if you pick him up with Mr. Noah tonight. The party ends at 10:00 pm." She said nothing and watched him leave.
After he was gone from her sight, she looked at Noah, who looked upset. Then, she thought about what Xavier had said that day and couldn't help asking, "Noah, let's go out¶ater tonight to bring Mr. Xavier home, alright?"
Noah's eyes lit up immediately; he badly wanted to leave the house. "Sure!"
