Are you hurt?
The situation in the restaurant grew increasingly tense for Letta as she grew anxious under Marco’s careful scrutiny. Letta felt sweat dampening her face, even though the restaurant’s air ventilation should have been adequate. Marco’s sharp gaze made her feel cornered, with no way to escape.
“I am right, aren’t I?” Marco asked, making Letta only able to shake her head. Marco didn’t stop there.
“Are you lying to me?” Marco asked, forcing Letta to straighten her face and face the man’s intense gaze.
“I am certain that you must be mistaken,” Letta said, trying to deny it. However, Marco remained undeterred.
“I have never been wrong about identifying someone, especially not when it comes to catching your scent,” Marco said, showing the scarf Letta had worn earlier. Marco cleared his throat, making Letta even more uneasy.
“Is my scent so offensive to your senses?” Letta asked with an awkward smile. Marco moved closer, making Letta feel even more cornered.
“I am serious, and I am sure you are that woman,” Marco said firmly, making Letta curse her foolishness. She found it difficult to evade Marco’s questioning.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
“If I am the woman you are referring to, what would you do?” Letta asked, making Marco fall silent. He wasn’t sure how to respond if Letta was indeed the woman who had been with him that night.
However, Marco didn’t allow Letta to stand up. Letta could only sigh as Marco asked her to stay seated. Marco continued to inquire about Letta’s presence that night, making Letta increasingly uncomfortable.
“Yes, it was me. And I apologize for any mistakes I made that night. I was truly drunk,” Letta said, hoping it would ease the tension. However, Marco continued to stare at her with an unreadable expression.
A waiter arrived with the drink that Marco had ordered for Letta, making the situation even more tense between them. Letta could only stare at the drink in front of her, unsure of what would happen next.
“Is this coffee?” Letta asked, making Marco nod. “But, I’m sorry, I don’t really like drinking coffee,” Letta said.
“Why?” Marco asked.
“It’s a congenital thing. So, let’s just forget about this coffee,” Letta said, for some reason making Marco seem like he wanted to know everything about her.
“Are you sure you were drunk that night?” Marco asked again, making Letta nod.
“Yes, we were at a party. So, no one doesn’t get drunk at a party. It’s better to forget about that night. Let’s pretend it never happened. So, you don’t need to look for me anymore,” Letta said, leaving Marco silent. Letta couldn’t fathom what the man was thinking, making her increasingly uncomfortable with his gaze. Letta finally noticed a glass of water also provided. She chose to wet her parched throat.
For some reason, even pushing her saliva down felt incredibly difficult in front of the man who continued to intimidate her. However, his next words almost made Letta spurt the water she had just drunk onto her superior’s face.
“Are you pregnant?” Marco asked suddenly, making Letta feel her throat and nose sting from choking on the water she had been about to drink while looking at Marco.
Letta gazed at Marco’s face, displaying a look of curiosity and intrigue. It seemed like Marco wanted to ascertain her current condition.
“Pregnant,” Letta said with an awkward smile, trying to let out a light laugh as if there were no issues.
“Hahaha, how could I be pregnant? That’s not possible,” Letta said, making Marco even more uncertain about the woman’s unconvincing answer.
“Are you sure nothing is happening with your body?” Marco asked, making sure again, as Letta nodded with certainty.
“Of course, I’m fine. So, you don’t need to worry,” Letta said, leaving Marco silent. Letta had to leave now. She couldn’t linger too long chatting with Marco, who always posed confusing questions for her.
“Then I better take my leave as there might not be anything else for you to discuss with me,” Letta said, quickly rising from her seat, then bowing to Marco to bid her farewell. However, when Letta tried to turn away, Marco grabbed her hand.
“Are you hurt?” Marco asked, making Letta widen her eyes, then shake her head.
“Hurt? Of course not. How could I be hurt just because I’m not pregnant,” Letta said confidently, as if assuring that she was perfectly fine. Perhaps in general, women would be hurt upon realizing the fact that was happening to her, but Letta was fine.
“It’s not about that, but your leg,” Marco said, making Letta blink. Only then did she look at her knee, which was indeed injured from the incident when she hit the sidewalk. Letta hadn’t even realized she was injured. Marco then instructed Letta to sit back down and called the waiter for some medication. Marco bent his knee and sat in front of Letta, making her stop in her tracks.
“Why are you doing this? I can treat it at home, so you don’t have to bother,” Letta said, making Marco ignore her words.
“I know you can treat it at home, but I’m just a little worried if you go home in this condition. Don’t you think that a wound like this might catch dust and cause an infection? So it’s better to treat your wound first. If you don’t want me to do it, do it yourself, but in front of me,” Marco said, now straightening his body and sitting in front of Letta.
A waiter then brought the medication Marco had requested a few minutes ago, while observing Letta clean her wound before finally releasing her to leave from his presence.
