CHAPTER 30
Judith’s POV
I survived the next three days pretty well. I was amazed by how much my mind drifted away from the paternity results and focused on wedding planning.
I met with the event planning company, the wedding fashion designer, and picked out a custom-made, hand-beaded wedding dress. I wanted something unique and beautiful, so I opted to create my own design. Everything went smoothly, and I enjoyed every bit of it.
I went to my room to take a shower after preparing dinner with the chefs when I received an email notification from the hospital. I wasn’t anxious about opening the message, so I took my shower and put on a simple dress.
“Okay, let’s check the paternity results,” I muttered to myself as I logged into my email on the laptop.Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
I saw the message and clicked on it. I scanned through it, and my eyes landed on the results. The results left me shocked and perplexed. It was a 99. 999999% match-something I’d never expected in a million years.
I sat there, dumbfounded. I wanted to shout, but it seemed I had lost my voice. I wanted to cry, but the tears wouldn’t come.
I couldn’t believe the results. They were right there before me, but I refused to believe them. To me, the results were incorrect.
“No, this can’t be true,” I said while pacing, ready to call the hospital to confirm the results.
“Hello,” I said in a shaky voice. “I ran a paternity test at your hospital, and the results seem false. Can you confirm if they sent me the right results or if they carried out the test properly?”
“Okay, ma’am, I can assure you that the result is a hundred percent correct. Our facilities and technicians are up-to-date, so there can’t be any mistakes. We are very careful in running our tests or offering treatment, as we know the penalty for medical negligence,” she said.
“Okay, thanks,” I ended the call and sat on the floor.
Felix was right all along. So the man I love and was about to marry was the one who assaulted me and caused me unforgettable pain.
Hot tears started dripping down my cheeks, and Felix’s words started replaying in my head: “He probably recognized you and felt pity for you.” So he doesn’t even love me. He felt pity for me and my kids. He assaulted me and then tried to trick me into marrying him.
I had been so happy, thinking I had found a man who loves me and the kids, not knowing it was just pity and guilt he felt towards us.
“Why am I so unlucky with love and marriage? For the second time, I’m broken and betrayed. My wedding isn’t going to happen.
I came to London to give life another chance, to forget the past and move on, but I got the shock of my life. I cried until I lost all my strength. I just slept on the bed wanting to die. I lay there, waiting for death to come, but it wouldn’t.
Nathan’s POV
I just got back from work, and all I wanted was to see the woman I love. In her presence, I always have this fullness of joy that I can’t even comprehend myself. I checked everywhere for her, but I couldn’t find her. So I made my way to the dining hall to ask the head chef, as she’s quite close with her.
“Hello, Isabella,” I said to the head chef, who was setting the table as I stepped into the dining hall.
“Welcome back, master,” she said courteously, turning to look at me.
“Where’s my wife? I don’t see her around.”
“Oh. We finished preparing dinner together some hours ago, so she told me she wanted to have a bath, and I haven’t seen her since then. She should be in her room,” she said with a smile.
“I checked her room, and it’s locked. I don’t think she’s there. Let me try calling her.”
“Okay, master,” she said and went into the kitchen to continue setting the table.
I called several times, but she wasn’t picking up. I waited for another thirty minutes, and she still wasn’t around. I became worried and scared.
“I hope she’s fine,” I thought as I paced about in the living room with several thoughts running through my head.
Judith isn’t the type to leave the house without telling anyone. In fact, I haven’t seen her go out except on rare occasions, which I’m always aware of.
“Where’s my wife?” I thundered angrily at the security guards, attracting the attention of the chefs and housekeepers. They stormed into the living room, all wearing worried expressions.
“Master, she never left the house. We haven’t even seen her today,” one of them said in a shaky voice, which the second guard nodded in agreement.
Frustrated and annoyed, I was about to call the police when I decided to check the CCTV camera, hoping to get a clue of what happened to her.
I ran into the control room, followed closely by the security guards. I operated the computer and checked the footage, but I never saw her leave the house. I relaxed a bit, knowing she was still inside.
We went back to her room to check again. The security guards, chefs, and housekeepers discovered that the door was locked from the inside. We knocked, but there was no response.
Everyone had worried faces, and the atmosphere was in turmoil. The madam of the house was inside a locked room, and everyone knew it wasn’t a good sign.
“I don’t think she’s fine because if she were, she would have opened the door,” I thought. “I would never be able to survive if something happened to my woman. Oh God, please keep her safe,” I prayed desperately and silently.
“Bring the door down,” I ordered the security guards.
“Okay, sir,” they both chorused, and one of them ran downstairs to get some tools.
The guards were about to begin breaking down the door when we saw it open. I rushed in as others stayed outside and heaved a sigh of relief.
“Babe, are you okay?” I asked while holding and scanning her face and body critically. She didn’t reply. I noticed her face was swollen, like someone who had been crying for hours.
“Babe, are you okay? You look like someone who has been crying. What’s wrong?” I asked again, hoping for a response, but she just stared at me with disgust.
“Close the door,” she said as she freed herself from my grip.
I had never seen her so angry and disgusted by my presence. She looked like she could kill me if she got the chance. At that moment, I knew something was wrong. My mind went to my greatest fear and secret. I staggered with fear and managed to close the door. I didn’t need a soothsayer to tell me that my worst nightmare had come true.
