Chapter 368
Chapter 368
Joseph's words shocked Paige. "You can't talk nonsense like that! Sophia should be my dad's child, right? He is such a shrewd person. Before he took them in, he must have done a DNA test."
"Yes, he must have done the test, but the results may have been changed, right?"
Joseph replied with a smile, "Don't you think that Sophia and your father have no similarities at all?"
"Well... But I don't look like my father either. It's possible for children to not resemble their parents, right?" Paige retorted. Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"That's also a possibility, but it is not likely for children to have zero resemblance to their parents. Let me give you an example, what would you do if you are really not your father's child? This is just an example,"
"That's not valid, how can I not be my father's child? You can't spew nonsense like this!" She glared at him unhappily.
"I was just joking. Don't mind me, and don't get angry either." He explained immediately.
"Your jokes are crossing the line lately. How can you say things like that? If I say that you are not your father's child, would you be angry?"
"Probably." He replied.
"That's right. You can't say things like that anymore. If you say it again, I'm going to punish you," she warned.
"I see. I won't talk about it in the future!" He promised good-naturedly.
Bobby, who was driving in the front, started the car engine. Paige frowned and felt that Joseph was being weird.
What he said to her every time seemed accidental, but it was not a joke at all because whatever he said was usually backed up with proof. If he wasn't joking this time, it would be a big deal.
Paige didn't want to believe that she was not Liam's child, but Joseph's words reminded her that she didn't look like him at all. Not only did she not resemble him, but her personality also wasn't like him either.
As she thought about it, she was reminded of her childhood. Since her youth, Natalie had always been the one to personally teach her, and Liam never had any chances to interrupt them.
Natalie had never asked Liam to take care of her. Her reason was that a mother's care was better than a father's.
She had been sent to boarding school since she was eight until she graduated from college, so she had only stayed home for a very short time.
Natalie was a good mother. She did everything a mother should do, but Liam had never cared about her like a father.
He had never taken her to school, and she never thought it was abnormal because she was used to it.
Now as she thought about it, it seemed that many of her classmates were sent to school by their fathers. She would envy her classmates when she saw them hanging out with their dad on the streets.
She talked about this with Natalie, but she said that there was a difference between men and women. If she wanted to shop, eat, or travel, her mother would accompany her, but her father didn't have to because he was busy and had work to deal with.
She never doubted Natalie's reasoning, but she now found it weird after giving it some thought.
Natalie was not a stubborn person. She was quite open-minded, so why did she prohibit Paige from spending time alone with Liam ?
Back then, Liam's attitude towards her was also very cold. When Natalie was alive, he only treated her superficially. Later, when Natalie was gone, he showed his true colors.
He had no fatherly affections towards her, and he always tried to set her up.
On the other hand, Natalie had always been on guard against Liam too. A normal, loving couple would not have to prepare secret contingency plans to deal with one another in the future. Moreover, she found out that Liam and Natalie didn't seem to be affectionate at all. Was there a reason behind this?
If Liam was really not her father, then that would explain the reason why he kept plotting against her.
After observing what had happened lately,
Paige could tell that Liam was as vicious as Isabella and Sophia. He was capable of doing anything to
her, so she was forced to prepare herself for anything.
The more she thought about it, the more upset she became. Her sullen expression did not escape Joseph's eyes.
He reached out and held her in his arms. "What are you thinking about?"
"Nothing."
Joseph knew that his words just now had made her think of unsavory things. He held her in his arms and said, "No matter what happens, just remember that I am definitely on your side!"
"I know!" She reached out to hug him. No matter what the truth was, she would be fine if Joseph was by her side. With him next to her, anything could be resolved, no matter how difficult it was.
In the evening, Charles took Sophia back to his room in B City and they had fun together all night.
After he fell asleep from exhaustion, she was still in high spirits. Seeing him fall asleep, she picked up her phone and went to the bathroom.
Isabella sent her several messages, and she replied to them after reading them. "I am with Charles now."
Isabella was shocked. "Really?"
"Really, mom. I won't be afraid of dad anymore as long as I hook up with Charles! I have to seize this opportunity."
Isabella immediately replied. "You better hold onto him. There is one more thing I want to tell you! Your father has agreed to plot against Paige again. As long as she is dead, we will have a bright future. I have contacted the person we hired last time."
"Great, did they reply? What did they say?"
"They said that they hate Paige to the core because one of them went blind because of her. They immediately agreed to it as soon as I contacted them. Now, let's wait and see. I estimate that there will be news about it in less than a week."
Seeing Isabella's message, Sophia was extremely happy. There was still a way out.
Anyway, she had two options now. Even if she failed at one option, there was at least another one.
Then, Joseph took Paige back to the villa.
She went to the bathroom to take a bath, while he picked up his cell phone to send a message to James. "In order to prevent Liam and Isabella from getting ahead of us, arrange a few twenty-four-hour bodyguards for Paige starting from now."
James quickly replied and said, "Got it, Mr. Dawson. The Saunders family sent someone to B City, and it looks like they're investigating Miss Anderson. Should we stop them?"
"Whose men are they? Archer, Gavin, or my eldest sister?" Joseph asked.
"It should be Gavin's men. They are very cautious. Why do you think he's doing this? Why would they
investigate Miss Anderson? Is it because of Lamont?" James guessed.
"Half of it is probably because of Lamont, but I think Gavin must be suspicious of Paige's family background too." Joseph carefully typed the message on the screen.
"Does Miss Anderson's family have anything to do with the Saunders family?" James was startled. If Paige's family was truly related to the Saunders, then it could only be through Archer. This was big news.
If Paige was really Archer's daughter, then what would happen to her and Joseph?
Joseph's sister married Archer. If Paige and Joseph were together, everyone would be against it, right?
