Chapter 8 Tensions Rising
Chapter 8 Tensions Rising
Luna got home and went straight to her room as she needed to take in all that had happened to her
today from her acting like an idiot following a scent to her becoming spiderman overnight. Luna didn’t
know what to think or how to even explain what was happening to her. Maybe it was just her time. She
had spent most of her life being made fun of by persons whom she thought to be her friends. Maybe it
was just time that this outcast began to shine. She thought about how exhilarating it felt when she did
those warmup exercises and not forgetting how she set a record inn rope climbing something that she
wouldn’t dare attempt in high school. She remembered how everyone wanted a piece of her after this
happened. She practically had to hightail it out of the gym. What did this all mean? Was there a logical
explanation to her change?
She put on some sweats and grabbed her phone and headphones and decided to go for a run just to
see what she could do so she wouldn’t be surprised in school. She headed to the tracks leading up to
the woods. Luna ran. She felt so free. The run relaxed her and she began to pick up her pace. She was
going so fast but she was not afraid. It felt so natural. She got to a river and sat for a moment to take in
the beauty and serenity of it all. Luna sat for what seemed to be forever then realized that it was getting
late then started to run back home. When she got home, her mother and stepdad were seated at the
table having supper. He stepfather seemed furious. “Where have you been Luna? The least you can do ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
is let your mother know of your whereabouts.” Her stepdad shouted angrily at her. She looked at her
mother who seemed to share his sentiments. “Luna it is 7:30pm. Where have you been?” Luna looked
at her parents intently asking herself why they were acting so strangely. “Well, I’m sorry but I came
from school, and decided to go for a run to clear my head. I am 17 years old and I was not aware that a
curfew was in effect” Her mother shot back at her “Luna it doesn’t matter how old you are but as long
as you are living under our roof and being cared for by us you will live by our rules. From now on when
you get home from school you will not leave without our permission” “so now I have become a prisoner
in my own home? Where is this coming from anyway. This is my first day of college. Instead of you
asking me how my first day went you would rather make me a prisoner? Where the hell is this coming
from? What have I ever done to deserve this?”
Luna stormed off and went upstairs to her room and got under the shower. Tears streamed down her
cheeks as she tried to make sense of what was happening. Where did this attitude from her parents
come from? She had no friends, she never went out with friends, she didn’t drink. At this point she
didn’t have a life which is why she didn’t understand why her parents were acting this way. Especially
on her first day of college. Luna got really upset and had to start taking deep breaths to calm herself.
She looked outside as she put on her Pajamas and realized that the moon was almost full and had
started to rise. She felt so calm looking up at the sky that the harsh words that her parents had uttered
were forgotten and she just went to bed.
Luna did not know that her stepmom had seen Lucian at the grocery store and was afraid that he was
back to take Luna. After the death of his brother, Luna’s father; he had stuck around for so long looking
for Luna. She had lied to him telling him that she never met Luna. She didn’t want him to take Luna
away from her as she knew that he had guardianship as Luna’s father had made it clear that she was
to be sent to his brother should anything happen to him. Now after all these years he was back and it
could turn ugly for them. They could go to jail for keeping Luna from her family. She couldn’t risk it and
would have to find a way to keep this secret buried and keep Luna away from him at least until he left.
She felt bad snapping at her like that but so much was at stake here. She needed to keep her from
him. But how?
Soccorah was seated at the dinner table deep in thought when she was confronted by Luca who had
been seated at the dinner table staring at Soccorah for the longest while. This was so unlike her. She
was always the one to initiate conversation. She was always into everyone’s business and to be seated
silent was a cause for concern. Nancy had stepped out on one of her dates, so Soccorah and Luca
were having dinner alone.
“what’s the matter; you sick or something?” he asked jokingly. Soccorah then snapped out of it.
“Thought you would be happy to get some peace with me in my own thoughts instead of out in yours.”
Luca laughed loudly. “Am I not allowed to be concerned about my girlfriend or cousin or whatever the
hell everyone thinks we are?” “What? …. Never mind. Remember that girl I was telling you about from
my Anatomy class? “How could I forget the old lady with the white hair and brows.” He said with a
weird grin on his devilishly handsome face.” “You promised not to make fun of her. It hasn’t even been
a full 24 hours and you’re already at it.” Soccorah muttered in annoyance. She then started to tell Luca
how Luna had had climbed the ropes faster than her and how her stamina was above average.
Luca asked her whether she thought that she was a wolf, but Soccorah could not answer that question
as she had no other evidence of Luna being supernatural. The one thing that she knew for sure was
that her new friend was definitely not human, and she would not stop until she found out what she was.
Luca thought that she was overreacting, but she wasn’t. Luna was supernatural and she just needed to
find a way to test her to be sure. Good thing they’d become friends. I would be so great if she were.
They could be themselves and maybe Luca could get some action. She smiled to herself, finished up
her supper and went to bed. Luca wet upstairs to sleep but he could not get what Soccorah had said
out of his head. As he lay in bed with the full moon so close his thoughts were of the beautiful white
wolf running through the woods. He wished that she would be his.
