Chapter 29 I Need Chopsticks!
Chapter 29 I Need Chopsticks!
Obviously, the doorman referred to Coleman. As a nerd, he always stayed at home with messy clothes
and indulged himself in the Cyberworld. And he didn't even have time to change his clothes when he
came to meet Conrad. So he was stopped by the doorman.
"What? You even dare to drive your guest away?" Conrad looked sullen. He couldn't believe that bias
against one's dress still existed in the modern world.
"Sorry, sir. This is the rule of the restaurant. And we serve according to the rules as the traditional
French restaurant. So the one with scruffy dress is not allowed to enter." The doorman said a bit
arrogantly.
Before Conrad was about to argue, Coleman said, "I am fine with that, Conrad. Let me just go back to
change my clothes. And it's not far away from here."
"No!" Conrad really hated this restaurant, but since it was Coleman's choice, he decided to give in. So
he then took off his suit jacket and put it on for Coleman. Though Coleman still looked a bit weird with
the pair of shorts, he seemed to fit the rule here.
"What about now?" Conrad questioned the doorman.
The doorman took a look and agreed seemingly reluctantly. Then he stepped aside and they finally
entered the restaurant.
Only one third of the tables here were occupied as the dishes here were quite expensive. Besides, the
western food turned to be a bit plainer when compared to the Chinese dishes.
They took seats at a quiet place. A middle-aged foreign waiter in swallow-tailed coat came forward and C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.
offered them the menu.
"Just get what you want." Conrad said. Of course, it was on him still.
"Lady first." Coleman still had no idea what to order.
Actually, Amara hadn't tasted the real western food but the localized one. So she only ordered some
common dishes that she had ever tasted before such as steak, salad and Spaghetti.
Conrad also browsed the menu. He seldom tasted western food either. So he ordered the specialties in
the restaurant such as baked snails, French Goose liver, white wine and so on. As they had no special
taste for wine, so Conrad didn't buy on the app.
Both Conrad and Amara finished the order of food, and it was turn for Coleman. He just said, "The
same as them."
Conrad also made them choose other dishes freely. The waiter jotted them down and left.
While waiting, Conrad taught Coleman the western table manner such as the use of fork and knife and
also how to wrap the napkin. Amara soon learnt them all and started to do as she was told.
But Coleman deemed it a bit troublesome and complained, "Such a trouble to have western food!"
"Of course it's such a trouble. When we have Chinese food, only a pair of chopsticks is needed."
Conrad said.
Then the waiter served them the appetizer—a plate of caviar for each one.
The three started to taste it. Coleman put a spoon of caviar into his mouth. But he suddenly frowned as
he didn't get used to the taste. But he still swallowed out of courtesy.
Conrad also tasted and he didn't like it. But for him, only the atmosphere mattered as it was a dinner
with his best friend and Amara.
When they were about to finish, the waiter served them the soup.
"Hey, could you please urge your chef to do it quick?" Coleman grabbed the waiter and said.
"Oh god, rude Chinese guy!" The waiter complained in English.
Amara whispered to Coleman, "There is a strict rule for the serving order of western food. They didn't
mean to do so."
However, Conrad looked sullen as the waiter complained in a seemingly racist tone.
"What do you mean by saying that? Call your manager here!" Conrad said to the waiter.
The waiter just shrugged and then went to ask the manager here.
Under the continuously request of Coleman, the main dish was finally served on the table. Coleman
started to work on the steak with fork and knife awkwardly as he didn't get used to it.
The manager named Bruno then walked over to Conrad. It was a typical French citizen with high cheek
bone, tall nose and blue eyes.
"The waiter offended us." Conrad said.
Bruno had a talk with the waiter. Then he turned to Conrad and said with bias, "Okay, I will have a talk
with him. But please stick to the table manner."
Before Conrad replied, Coleman said to Bruno, "I need chopsticks! It's really troublesome to use fork
and knife!"
However, Coleman seemed to deem it troublesome as well to eat with chopsticks. So he just did in the
primitive way—he actually grabbed the steak and chewed it.
"Oh my god, you guys are so rude!"
Bruno was quite dissatisfied with Coleman. He then looked at him with disdain and said in Chinese,
"Sir, if you still insist acting so rudely, I am afraid that you are not allowed to be served here."
Conrad's expression changed upon hearing that. He hated to be offended by the manager as a
customer in the restaurant. In his opinion, there was even no specific rule of law prescribing that
chopsticks were prohibited in the western restaurant, so they had the right to eat according to their own
rules. For him, the best table manner was to cater for all customers according to their different needs.
Since both the waiter and the manager here discriminated against his best friend, Conrad also deemed
it a discrimination against himself.
"Apologize to my friend!" Conrad said sternly.
"Why? You friend should apologize to us!" Bruno argued loudly. While other customers also laughed at
Coleman for acting like a bumpkin as he even asked for chopsticks in a western restaurant.
Conrad sneered and decided to retaliate against Bruno in his own way.
