Chapter 801 Why Would A Madman Need A Reason
Chapter 801 Why Would A Madman Need A Reason
All jokes aside, Gwendolyn placed the breakfast tray down on the bedside table before turning around to help him up.
“How did you fall again? Were you too tired from all the work yesterday?”
Cedrick shook his head. “My foot’s numb.”
Gwendolyn helped him back into his chair, then sat on the edge of the bed to massage his legs, alleviating the pressure on his blood flow caused by prolonged immobility.
“Feeling better now?”
He nodded. Realizing he hadn’t seen the two kids around, he asked, “Where are Benny and Zendy?”
“They just finished breakfast at the lab cafeteria and have followed Joshua and Nico to the small basketball court at the back to play badminton. It’s good for Benny to get some exercise, having been bedridden for so long.
As Gwendolyn spoke, Cedrick kept his gaze fixed on her, a smile playing at the corners of his lips. “Why didn’t Gwenny go?”
“Because I had to come back to check on you. I haven’t even eaten yet. I heard from Nico that you haven’t been eating properly while I was away.”
Cedrick furrowed his brows, picking up on her key point.
How dare Nico tell on me? That betrayer.
It seemed as if Gwendolyn could read his thoughts. With a hint of annoyance, she jabbed her finger at his forehead and scolded in a low voice, “Don’t use this as an excuse to give Nico a hard time. It’s me
who wanted him to report these things to me. And you, you really don’t take your health seriously. You’re asking for a beating.”
Cedrick stifled a laugh, far from fearing a beating. He even leaned in to plant a kiss on her soft cheek.
Gwendolyn looked at him, trying to keep a straight face while feeling helpless.
Oh well, there’s nothing I can do. I chose him, so I’ll dote on him.
She raised an eyebrow, gesturing for Cedrick to eat the breakfast on the bedside table. “Hurry up and eat. It’s not good for your stomach if the soy milk gets cold. Your irregular lifestyle in the past is one thing, but now that I’m back, we need to get your schedule back on track. If you dare to drink and smoke excessively, skip meals, or stay up all night, I won’t care for you anymore. I’ll drag you to the Jenson family’s ancestral hall and let Logan discipline you according to the Jenson family rules.”
If he was taken to the ancestral hall, it would mean that he’d be in for a good whipping.
If he really got a beating, it would take at least ten days to heal. It was incomparable to the mahogany ruler at home.
Even though he knew that she was more bark than bite, this was just a blatant threat, and she absolutely couldn’t bear the thought of him getting whipped, yet Cedrick still felt threatened.
After all, Gwendolyn did say that she would no longer take care of him.
He moved in, wrapped his arms around Gwendolyn’s slender waist, and kissed her forehead. “I understand, I’ll listen to you.”
Tsk tsk. She gently pushed his face away, not allowing him to continue his kisses.
“Hurry up and cat.”
Cedrick nodded, feeling contented.
The feeling of being constantly looked after by his wife was truly wonderful.
He picked up the breakfast tray from the bedside table, placed it on his lap, wiped his hands with a wet tissue, and then began to skillfully peel and eat the egg.
Gwendolyn sat by the bedside, quietly watching him eat.
He popped a whole boiled egg into his mouth in one go.
Gwendolyn was rendered speechless.
She frowned. Is his mouth really that big? How come I never noticed how big his mouth was when we kissed? He can fit an entire egg in there…
Even though Cedrick stuffed the whole boiled egg into his mouth, he chewed it slowly and deliberately After peeling the egg, he wiped his fingers with a wet tissue, appearing to be extremely particular about cleanliness.
Every move he made was filled with grace. As he swallowed, his Adam’s apple moved gently. He took another sip of soy milk, tilting her neck to reveal a perfect jawline. He was the epitome of sensuality, a feast for the eyes.
Even though it was just a simple dish of eggs and soy milk, he ate with the demeanor of someone enjoying a fancy Ferropenian meal, as if it was exceptionally delicious.
Without realizing it, Gwendolyn swallowed hard.
Cedrick noticed it, his thin lips slightly raised, a hint of mischief tinted his smile. “Why does Gwenny’s gaze seem a bit strange?”
“What’s strange about it?”
“You look like you want to devour me.”
I’ll kill you first before I devour you.
As she fell silent, Cedrick had already begun peeling the second egg. His slender fingertips were very attractive, the blue veins on the back of his hand subtly prominent, extending into his sleeve, showcasing his vigorous vitality.
Gwendolyn paused when she saw Cedrick swallow a whole egg once again. Furrowing her brows, she couldn’t help but ask, “Won’t you choke?”
Cedrick’s chewing motion came to a halt, his car turned inexplicably red. He looked away, swallowed the egg, took a couple of sips of soy milk, and then asked, “Does Gwenny think I eat in an unattractive manner?”
Gwendolyn was about to reply when Cedrick cut her off. “How I eat isn’t important, Compared to eating eggs, I’m much better at eating Gwenny.”
His response left Gwendolyn at a loss for words.
Be serious.
Gwendolyn paid him no mind. Instead, she asked, “How is Megan doing? Has she spoken the truth yet?”
Cedrick nodded. “She can be considered a pitiful woman. Her husband is violent and an alcoholic, beating. her whenever he gets drunk. She thought having a child would make him change his ways, but it only. made things worse. He even beats their son. Ten years ago, when her husband beat her until she bled, their son rushed over to intervene. He picked up a stool to hit his father, but was accidentally
killed by her husband. He was only eight when he died, and was buried on the mountaintop. Later, her husband took a fancy to another woman in the city and never returned. She found her days to be more peaceful after that. She still has ten gold bars under her bed, stored for quite some time now. She mentioned that she saved a man three years ago, and in gratitude, he gave her those ten gold bars. This time, when she saved you, she was actually planning to leave town to buy some medicine. But she ran into a group of people who were carrying your photo from the media and asking about your whereabouts. And among that group, she recognized the man she had saved three years ago. She told that man your location and got another bag of gold bars in return…”
That was a very important piece of information.
Gwendolyn fell into deep thought.
Cedrick’s expression was equally serious. “I suspect that the man she saved three years ago is the fugitive. Joe.”
This man was once an elite member of the military, with top-notch skills in reconnaissance and counter- reconnaissance.
Catching him wouldn’t be
easy.
Gwendolyn replied, “He captured my brother’s patient and altered his appearance to look like me, just to deceive you. His intention and premeditation are incredibly strong. He clearly wants to mess with you, even if he himself is in deep trouble. Why? What kind of deep-seated grudge do you have with him?” Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
Cedrick was momentarily at a loss for words, as the vague image of a woman surfaced in his mind.
However, he kept his head down in silence, not saying much more. Madmen need no reasons for their actions.”
Seeing that Gwendolyn was still pondering over this matter, Cedrick reached out and gently rubbed the back of her head. He said softly, “This is official business of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Don’t worry about it too much, Gwenny. If there’s any business with Harris Group that needs to be discussed, do it in the lab through online meetings. When I’m not around, take good care of Benny and Zendy.”
Joe had always operated from the shadows, employing a variety of methods and wielding considerable covert influence. After the incident with Gwendolyn, he didn’t dare let her travel alone to Harris Group to work anymore. The laboratory was the only place he deemed truly safe.
Gwendolyn knew what he was worried about and that he had to attend to his official duties again. She nodded in understanding.
“Don’t worry. Nothing is more important than the safety of our family right now.”
A rabid dog bites without regard for time or method. It was truly hard to guard against. The cost of another mishap was something neither she nor Cedrick could afford.
The two were in the midst of a conversation when Gwendolyn’s phone suddenly rang.
It was Nico
Since Nico and Joshua were playing badminton with Benny and Zendy, receiving a call from him during this time must be something important.
Before Gwendolyn could even ask what the matter was, Nico spoke up in a flustered and anxious voice.
“Gwendolyn! I’m sorry, it s all my fault..
Gwendolyn looked up at Cedrick and asked, “What’s wrong
“1-I’m at fault here. Benny is hurt…”
