Chapter 29: 29

Chapter 29: 29

I wake up as the doctors call my name softly. I slowly open my eyes and I see a doctor, two nurses and

Elliot in front of me. At the foot of the bed, there is a machine hooked up to an AVR that is portable. If I

heard it correctly, this machine will read the fluids of my body, I’m not so sure. I see the nurses carrying

small plastic tubes, cups and two pregnancy test kits.

“Hey” Elliot smiles softly, “they need to run some test to make sure you’re okay and there’s nothing we

should be concerned about” Elliot says and helps me up. Elliot escorts me to bathroom as the nurses

explained to me what I was going to do, where I was going to pee, how much pee I needed and how to

properly compartmentalize all the samples that I would be providing. I sat down on the toilet and started

to wait for my pee. I was still a little dizzy. The idea of my being pregnant dawned on me but it was

impossible. It had only been a couple of days when Elliot and I slept together. I feel my pee coming

down and I get the plastic cup ready and a couple of seconds later, I fill the cup to the rim. I pour a little

of my collected pee on the two pregnancy sticks before I properly keep the cups. Once I was through, I

wash my hands and head out of the bathroom. I had the samples and test to the nurses. Elliot comes

and helps be sit back on the bed. One of the nurses walks to me and ties a long, thin, light blue rubber

on my arms. She starts to light tap on my skin, looking for a vein.

“Mrs. Smith, we need to draw blood from you to check for any infections, STDs and for us to conduct a

more thorough checking of pregnancy” Dr. Stevens tells me. ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

I not but I still feel weak. I did not want to eat anything but I do feel the need to quench my thirst. While

the nurses collected my blood, Elliot just sat next to me, looking as if this is all his fault. Once the

nurses were done, they excused themselves and the machine that was hooked up to an AVR started

making a whirring noise and started spinning.

“Mr. Smith one of our medical technicians will be coming up to conduct readings, if that would be okay”

the nurse who took my blood says. Elliot just looks at her and nods. Dr. Stevens checks my

temperature and asks me to breathe in and out. Dr. Stevens asks if I feel any pain on any part of my

body. “It seems like there’s nothing too obvious that would cause your fainting. What have you been

eating and doing for the past few days?” Dr. Stevens asks.

I bite my lower lip, “We’ve just been out either strolling along the beach front, eating or uhm …” I trail

off. I quickly glance at Elliot and he smiles to himself.

“We’ve been out doing water activities” Elliot says. We glance at one another and Dr. Stevens

immediately understood what we were embarrassed about. Dr. Stevens clears her throat and takes a

look at my charts again.

“Okay, no history of heart problems in the family, diabetes, high blood, nothing, right?” she clears out.

I shake my head, “No”

She nods, “Okay, we’ll run some tests on the fluids. If you’ll just give us a moment. I’ll send the fluids to

the hospital as well. We’d like to check if you have any food allergies”

“Uhh nope, no food allergies”

“Alright then. You seem to look okay but again we’ll give you the test results in a while. No food

allergies so I will be prescribing some that you take more rest and eat” Dr. Stevens smiles at me.
