Chapter 531

Mirabella pondered for a moment before replying with casual simplicity, “Just someone who doesn’t matter much. As for the thanks, I suppose it’s because I saved a life

Delilah paused, a hint of surprise in her voice. ‘Saved a life?”

Yep, Mirabella uttered with a nonchalant nod, not bothering to elaborate further. She then fished out her smartphone and fired up a live–streaming app. Today, Princess Leo” was flying solo on the stream, and Mirabella wondered if he had managed to avoid any

trouble.

Delilah wanted to press on, but seeing her daughter engrossed in her phone, exuding a clear air of ‘drop the subject, she clamped her hips shut. Her daughter, usually so compliant and gentle, was a vault of secrets. If Mirabella didn’t wish to share something, it was a closed book,

Delilah decided not to pry further. However, a thought struck her, and she glanced at Mirabella, feigning nonchalance as she asked, “By the way, honey, has anyone from the Gilbert family been around to see you again?”

Mirabellas gaze remained steadfast on her phone screen, and it took her a few seconds to respond without looking up. “Nope.” There was a time when Mandy paid a solitary visit to her school, but that was ages ago and hardly worth mentioning now.

“Oh, well, if the Gilberts ever do come calling, make sure to let me know, dear.” Delilah picked up a glass of water from the coffee table and took a sip.

This time, Mirabella glanced askance, a flicker of curiosity in her eyes, “Why’s that?”

Delilah cleared her throat and said, “No big deal, really. Just don’t want you dealing with bullies again.”

Mirabella’s eyes returned to her phone. “They’re not in a position to bully me.” NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.

*Just be sure to talk to me if you run into any trouble, okay? Don’t keep it all bottled up inside,” Delilah said, her gaze drifting.

This moming, Grady had come by, reporting that he had traced the recent inquiries into the Davis family. They had suspected their old adversaries and had even arranged for bodyguards to covertly protect their daughter, only to discover it was the Gilbert family- Mirabella’s former foster mother, no less.

Delilah couldn’t fathom why that woman would suddenly take an interest in the Davis family, but it surely wasn’t out of goodwill. Precaution was necessary.

Time flew, and on Wednesday, Mirabella received a text from Johnny asking her to come by after school for a follow–up check on Owen. She had previously agreed to a second visit, and with no other plans after classes, she texted back a simple [Ok.]

At five o’clock, as Mirabella stepped out of Parkside High School, a horn honked from a black sedan parked on the road. A man clad in a stark black suit with a stern demeanor stepped out. He approached Mirabella directly, offering a polite nod. “Ms. Mirabella, Mr. Johnny is waiting for you in the car.” Johnny had made it clear to his bodyguard to treat Mirabella with utmost respect. Mirabella gave the man a cursory glance, acknowledging him with a faint hum.

The black sedan wasn’t exactly a luxury car, but a closer look revealed modifications especially the windows, which were bulletproof. The bodyguard courteously opened the rear door for her. Mirabella diverted her thoughtful gaze and promptly slid into the backseat. Johnny was seated in the front passenger seat. As soon as she got in, hè greeted her warmly, “Ms. Mirabella, I appreciate you making the trip.”

Mirabella straightened up and replied with a light affirmation before adding, “I’m not doing this for nothing, you know.”
