“Thankfully, electronic payment is an option here, saving me the awkwardness of having to ask random strangers for cash.”
As he spoke, he tore open the antiseptic package, intending to apply it on Lysander with a cotton swab, naturally squatting down in the process.
Lysander thought he was making a mountain out of a molehill, but she couldn’t resist his persistence. Reluctantly, she extended her hand and said, “I’ll do it myself.”
“I’ll be gentle,” promised Josiah, as he delicately applied th

Lysander studied his prominent nose, contemplating his serious expression. A swirl of emotions stirred within her, a complex blend she couldn’t quite pinpoint:
This serene moment was akin to the time before the truth had been unveiled.
Lysander felt an inexplicable sting in her nose.
Upon lifting his gaze, Josiah noticed an unusual glint in her eyes, immediately causing him to worry, “Does it hurt?”
“No.” Lysander gently shook her head. “How’s the wound on your leg? You didn’t get it wet in the shower, did you?”
“No, I was extra careful,” Josiah responded, suddenly flashing a mysterious smile. “By the way, can you guess what I overheard the receptionist saying when I went to get the second room key?”
Lysander didn’t think he’d appreciate being seen as a freeloader. She asked with confusion, “Has the misunderstanding been cleared up?”
“No.” Josiah chuckled.
“I wasn’t familiar with the local roads, so I told them I was buying medicine for my girlfriend and needed to know where the pharmacy was. When I returned, I overheard the receptionist and the cleaning lady discussing how impressive my customer service was…”
His expression was calm, indicating that he had already accepted the situation.
A smile tugged at the corner of Lysander’s mouth. “I’ll still have to find a chance to explain.”
“What’s there to explain? We won’t be staying for more than a few days. Pay no heed to it.”
“Are you willing to be misunderstood as a toy boy?”
Josiah posed a direct counter–question to her. “Our relationship is either the wealthy woman and her toy boy, or boyfriend and girlfriend. Which of these roles would you prefer?”
Lysander bit her lip.
It seemed as though Josiah had seen through her thoughts from the very beginning, his demeanor relaxed. “So, let them believe I’m just a toy boy,” he said nonchalantly.

Lysander was at a loss for words.
She wondered if all men enjoyed roleplay.
When it was time to sleep at night, Josiah even raised an eyebrow and asked, “Dr. Thorne, do you need any assistance tonight?”
At the time, Lysander was drinking water and choked abruptly, coughing for quite a while.
While patting her back, Josiah let out a helpless laugh. “Can’t you take a little joke?”
Tears streamed down Lysander’s face. “I’m not accustomed to your high–society games.”
“High society is dull, it’s better to stay down–to–earth.”
Josiah pulled out two pieces of tissue to wipe away her tears.
After taking care of her, Josiah instinctively used clothes to create a clear boundary on the large bed.
He traced the boundary with his hand, promising, “Rest assured, I won’t cross the line.”
He was injured at the time, so it wasn’t appropriate for him to sleep on the floor. The sofa in the room was too small for him to stretch out comfortably.
Whenever Lysander was faced a wounded patient, her demeanor would involuntarily soften. Moreover, she owed him a great favor.
“I know,” she said, her trust in Josiah gradually returning without her even realizing it. “You didn’t sleep at all last night. You should rest now, especially if you’re planning on going to the market tomorrow. If you don’t sleep now, you won’t be able to wake up in the morning.” Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
Josiah was sitting sideways, intently watching her. His deep–set eyes were gently illuminated by the bedside lamp.
Lysander tried to close her eyes, but even without seeing him, she could still feel his intense gaze, prompting her to ask, “Why aren’t you asleep yet?”
The last time they shared a bed was just a few days ago, albeit in a cramped dorm room.
Josiah could still recall how he felt back then. His back was so tense that it was almost unbearable, yet he dared not press against her too much, afraid of startling her.
He honestly admitted, “I’m… having a bit of trouble sleeping right now.”
Lysander opened her eyes and said, “I feel the same way, actually. Maybe it’s because my body and mind are both exhausted to the extreme that I can’t sleep. In medical terms, this could be explained as my brain being overly stimulated.”
After a brief silence, Josiah asked, “Can you explain it in layman terms?”
“Basically, your brain cells are constantly firing, which leads to your sympathetic nervous system taking over and releasing too many thyroid hormones,” Lysander explained seriously.
Josiah looked at her, seeing the intensity in her eyes, and admitted with a sigh, “Honestly… I’m still lost.”

but to offer the simplest explanation. “It’s like being overwhelmed by anxiety, unable to recover immediately. Similar to a stretched rubber band, if you let go suddenly, it will only cause harm. One can only wait for it to gradually return to its original state.”
This time around, Josiah finally understood.
The budget hotel didn’t offer any meals, so both of them had to order takeout for dinner.
They felt at ease after enjoying a bowl of pasta each. Yet, annoyingly, they didn’t feel the slightest bit sleepy.
Josiah took the initiative and suggested, “How about we chat for a bit? Maybe we’ll get sleepy as we talk.”
Lysander had no objections. “What should we talk about?”
“I don’t know,” admitted Josiah, struggling to voice his true thoughts. He merely ask, “Doesn’t this feel like deja vu to you?”
He was referring to the period of time after they got married.
When Lysander thought back to the past, she was now able to calmly reflect on those events.
“I actually feel that things are not the same as they were before. Previously, we were a married couple, and sharing a bed was the norm. To put it simply, we were fulfilling our marital duties, and I believe you saw it the same way. But now… we’re divorced, and we can finally talk peacefully.”
“Yes.”
Josiah asked, “How long do you plan on staying here?”
“I made a promise to Blaine I’d stay here at least until the end of the year,” she said. “As for what happens after that, I haven’t decided yet.”
There was less than two months left until the New Year. It was a period that could be considered neither long nor short.
Without a second thought, Josiah said, “I’ll accompany you.”
The room was filled with a prolonged silence.
“Are you giving up on the company?” Lysander questioned.
Josiah spoke seriously, “Of course not, but we can’t ignore the situation here. Apart from myself, I’m afraid no one else might be able to handle the trouble Dillon brings. If I’m not here, I worry he might harm you.”
“You’re already aware of this situation, I don’t believe he’d dare to kill me under your watch.”
“He definitely wouldn’t resort to murder, but he could stir up enough trouble to disrupt the peace of this village. You’re a doctor. He could easily tamper with your medical supplies, or dilute
your medications, causing them to spoil. If someone falls ill as a result, he could pin the blame on you, claiming that your medical equipment is contaminated. What would you do then?”
Lysander fell silent.
The health clinic was understaffed.

Furthermore, there wasn’t anyone specifically assigned to keep watch.
For Dillon, orchestrating such a scheme was not a challenging task.
Josiah said, “At least when I’m around, no matter what he plans to do, he’ll always have some reservations.”
Lysander sighed.
Regardless of whether she was willing to admit it or not, Josiah’s presence indeed posed a significant intimidation to Dillon.
“Of course, I really want to experience your life. I can always drive back and forth if need be.”
