The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 32

Chapter 32: A target on her back

As Daniel was driven to his father’s house, he called the ship to ask if Anya was still there.

“She asked for a boat to take her ashore, sir,” the captain answered. Daniel sighed in relief before feeling uncomfortable.

“How did she seem?” Daniel asked.

“Sir?” the captain asked in confusion.

“Did she seem angry?” Daniel asked.

“I don’t think so, sir,” the captain answered. After that call, Daniel seemed more uncomfortable. He was not sure what was going through her mind. He had left her there. In anger, now he regretted it when she did not seem offended.

Won’t a woman be offended if her husband leaves her behind? Daniel looked at his phone. She had not called him at all.

A mansion soon came into view as the driver drove to a stop in front of the large front door.

the butler. Daniel did not step out of the car immediately, but took out his phone and cali

“Sir,” he heard Mr. Lenny answer.

“Are you back from your holiday, Lenny?” Daniel asked.

“Yes, sir,” Lenny answered.

“Pack your bags. You will not be serving the main mansion anymore,” he said.

“Where will I be serving, sir?” Lenny asked.

“You will be serving at my mansion, where my wife, Anya, is living,” he said. He recalled that Anya seemed uncomfortable in his home.

She did not wander around and mostly kept to her room. The staff were mildly respectful, but he realized they were the same staff he had hired before she left the house 3 years ago. He needed to make sure nothing was happening while he was not around.

“I will make sure she is well taken care of,” Lenny said.

“You are quick to adapt,” Daniel commented.

Daniel had to admit that he was a bit panicked these days. He was having a feeling that something was slipping away, and he could not put his finger on it.

The more cautious she was around him and his family, the more worried he was. Her caution just showed how she had been treated, and he was not sure how to handle it.

He was not sure what had gotten into him, but ignoring her now did not sit right. He knew that Anya detested this, but the idea of her detesting being called his wit made him want to

refer to her as such even more.

He was not sure what happened. Was she not the one who wanted to marry him? Daniel shook his head and tried to calm down.

“If my father knows I called you from the main house to mine, he will be angry, so make it worth it,” Daniel ordered.

“Yes, sir,” Lenny answered, and Daniel ended the call and stepped out of the car.

Chapter 1 A Titon

As Daniel pushed open the heavy oak doors and stepped into the dimly lit foyer, the air crackled with a solemn air.

This was one of his father’s houses.

This house was always this way: oppressive and solemn. It was the way his father preferred it.

When Daniel thought about it, his home was the same. He wondered if he felt differently because Anya lived in it. No, he vanished this thought from his head quickly. He was not sure how spending a few days with her could make him forget what kind of woman she is.

His mansion was his home, but his wife was not comfortable in it, always acting like a guest, not touching anything, and staying out of the way. Any man would pay more attention. That is all he was doing.

His father’s butler welcomed him by the door.

“The master is in his study,” the butler said.

Daniel walked into the meeting room, and many immediately stood. up.

Daniel’s eyes remained cold and unfeeling as he surveyed the people there. They were the Shaw family’s vassals and have been so for generations. To put it more clearly, they were the arms and legs of the leader of the Shaw family, Daniel.

His father had stepped down from running the company and handed the reins to Daniel a long time ago. Though he would sometimes interfere, it was only when it was important.

Daniel looked around at their tensed stance and knew something had gone wrong. From the look of it, his father had not called for the meeting, as those there looked completely angry

and tired while Michael just scoffed.

If they had to gather around his father, something happened, and not just anything; it must have been something his father did.

Daniel scanned the room till his eyes landed on his father.

At the head of the family, Daniel’s father, Michael Shaw, sat tall, his presence casting a shadow over those gathered there in the dimly lit room. When he saw Daniel walk in, he nodded his way.

As Daniel approached under his father’s raised brow. Even though nothing was said, Daniel already had a headache. He needed no one to tell him that his father had caused trouble.

and took a seat at the head of the table, cuing that the meeting was about to begin. The rest of those inside left the hall, leaving Daniel, his father, and four others in the

room.

Inside the meeting room, tension swept past as one of them passed a document to Daniel.

Daniel read through it for a moment before he paused and frowned at his father.

“What did you do?” he asked.

“You should be asking why,” Michael answered.

“Your father blocked the Randall family from making their shipment yesterday,” one of those

in the room said, and the room turned solemn.

“He not only blocked their shipment, he used a lobby to delay their loan from the government.” Another person said, and Daniel glanced at his father, who shrugged carelessly.

Daniel did not care much about the Randall family, but this was a sensitive time.

Daniel was developing a big project and needed to be careful. The Randal family could as well cause trouble if they were pushed.

“Word has spread that we are now acting against them and are now enemies. The Randal family must have gotten word of this now,” another person explained.

Daniel glanced at his father again and sighed.

“Are you bored?” He asked his father, and the old man shrugged.

Why

do you

sound like I did something wrong? I know I usually stay out of your business, and you have your project to handle, but we have no reason to be weary of them,” Michael said nonchalantly.

“It is one thing to sell weapons to our enemies; it is another for us to encroach on their territory!” someone said, his eyes blazing with righteous fury. “The Randal family has ties to the Mafia. By doing this, we are starting a territory war. As much as I do not care about this

this is a critical time.”

“Maybe we just let the one who started it end it,” she said, and they all fixed Michael a look.

Michael seemed unbothered, as though he had already planned this out.

“But we are all in trouble, so we should fix it together,” Michael said, and the entire hall went

silent.

“What did they do?” Daniel finally asked.

“They are the ones who crossed us first. They had a name added to an abduction list.”

‘Name? Whose name?” Daniel asked. He was not the only one curious. The entire room focused on Michael at this moment.

“A name you are very family with. After all, this concerns you,” Michael said.

Michael had said that they had put an abduction order on someone. He was sure his father was not one to do stupid things. To provoke his father, they must have targeted their family.

“Who? Mother?” Daniel asked. He knew his father was severely protective of his mother. He would not let it go either if it was his mother.

“Your wife, Anya Shaw,” he said, and they all looked among each other.
