Slightly Fragile
Slightly Fragile
LATE at night, Zoe and her mother talked about moving in, and the good thing is… her mom has a friend in a town in Cali. Of the thing that had happened earlier, they’re afraid that they will get involved with the Lincolns’ businesses. And Zoe knew that what she was doing was for the better. They packed their things before going to bed, and the following day, Zoe went to work early to prepare herself. She waited for an hour before Helios arrived with Ambrose and Cliff. Ambrose waved his hand at her, and Zoe just bowed her head and smiled slightly. Soon as Helios got inside his office, she waited for a few minutes before she pulled out her drawer and grabbed the resignation letter. Whether Helios was going to accept it or not, she had already made her decision. She needs to get away from him. She heaved a deep sigh and smiled at Ambrose and Cliff, who were standing side by side at the door. “What’s wrong, Ms. Levine?” Ambrose asked soon as she stopped a few inches from the door. Zoe shook her head and smiled. She took a deep breath and twisted the knob. Soon as she entered, she could feel Helios’s office’s thick awkward and cold. This is it. This is the end. She hemmed to clear her throat and caught Helios’s attention. “You’re aware that you signed it,” Helios said, making her body tense. She pressed her lips together as she met Helios’s eyes. “I didn’t get paid yet, and this is for the better, Mr. Lincoln.” Helios let out a smirk. “Better? Are you getting affected by my father—” “This is not just about your father. This is about us. We’re not meant to be. I like you—scratch that. I just realized that I love you, but it’s already too late, and we can’t change the fact that you’re this high…” she gestured her hand above, “—while I am below.” “Damn it!” Helios cursed as he slammed the door. “Why would you be concerned about our lifeNôvelDrama.Org owns this text.
status? I love you, and you love me—” “No.” “Come on, Zoe. Please don’t deny it. You already said it. Love conquers all. Love is fair in love and war. Love is all about taking a risk. You will love me, not my father. You don’t have to prove yourself to him that you love me. I am enough—we’re enough. The understanding between us is enough for us to build—” “You don’t understand, Helios. Please don’t make things more complicated than they used to be. I made my decision. And please, accept the truth that we’re done.” Then suddenly, Zoe felt the cold droplets on her cheeks. She then wiped it away. She smiled. “T- Thank you for everything, Helios. God knows how fortunate we were when you came into our life, even if it’s just a short period.” “Zoe… please, don’t do this.” Zoe smiled and walked closer to him. She put down her resignation letter in front of me, and Helios was about to hold her hand when she pulled it away. “Zoe…” “Chloe is the one for you….” “Fuck it!” Helios cursed and boomed inside the office, and he was about to walk closer to her when the door opened, making Zoie wipe her tears once again and bow her head. She closed her eyes when she heard Chloe’s angelic voice. “What’s going on, Helios? Why are you shouting?” Zoe felt her presence making her turn around and rushed outside Helios’s office, ignoring Chloe. “Zoe!” Zoe immediately closed the door, rushed towards her desk, and grabbed her bag. “Ms. Levine, is everything fine?” Ambrose dashed in front of her. Zoe stopped and met Ambrose’s eyes. “Thank you, Ambrose. I appreciate your efforts to me. I… I need to go,” she said and walked towards the elevator. Ambrose looked at Cliff, and the latter shrugged his shoulders. “WHAT did you do to her, Helios?” Chloe’s anger can be sensed in her voice.
Helios sat down on his swivel chair and didn’t bother to look at Chloe. Chloe walked closer to him and slammed his desk. “Did you just fire her?!” Still, Helios didn’t respond. “How cruel are you—” “Please leave for a while, Chloe. I’m not in the mood to hear your rants,” he interrupted. Chloe crossed her arms in front of her chest and arched her brow. “So, you fired her.” She scoffed. “I don’t sense any bad about Zoe. She’s lovely and kind. You know me, I am not friendly, but I can see that she’s genuine with one look. Yet, you fired her? If only I knew it, I should have taken her in my father’s company,” she said and left. Even Zoe is just new to Chloe’s eyes. She could feel that Zoe loved her work. And knowing Helios’s demeanor, she couldn’t help but get angry at Helios. How could he let go of such a wonderful employee? HELIOS’S clenched his fist as he looked at Zoe’s resignation letter. He reached for it and crumpled it. He punched his desk, and it caused his knuckles to bleed. Suddenly, the door opened, and it showed Ambrose and Cliff. “What happened, Sir?” Ambrose asked. “We heard a loud—” “Get out!” Helios yelled, making the two confused, yet they followed his order. Helios fell into silence for a moment, then suddenly… he stood up and exited his office. Ambrose and Cliff follow him, and the two seem to know why Helios is acting so cold and scary. This has something to do with Zoe’s departure. The two knew about the love of their boss towards Zoe, and it was their first time seeing Helios like this… especially with a girl. Helios was known to be cold yet calm and won’t let distractions evade his mind. But what they’re seeing now it’s not the Orion Helios anymore. He became unguarded and slightly fragile… because of LOVE. He became soft, and the two knew that this might be good or bad for him. Helios is no ordinary person, and like his father, who got enemies, so as he. And involving love in it
is a great distraction that might lead to his downfall. At this moment, Ambrose knew that Don Lincoln had already made his way to stop Helios from digging his own pit.
