She struggled and screamed, but my hand muffled the sound. | dragged her to a quiet corner, and released her from my grip.. “What is the meaning of this?” she demanded, wiping her mouth with the back of her hand.

“I'm not interested,” she said, trying to walk away. But | moved to block her path.

“Please, Nelly,” | said, my voice pleading. “Just let me explain.”

“What exactly are you trying to explain, Astel?” she said, her voice rising in anger.

“| know you're angry with me, and if | were in your position, I’d feel the same way. But please, just hear me out.” She fixed me with a piercing gaze, her eyes searching mine. Then, she glanced down at her watch.

“You have less than ten minutes,” she said. “Make use of them wisely.”

| swallowed hard, trying to gather my thoughts. What could | say to make her understand? | took the bouquet of flowers from my pocket and held it out to her.

“| brought these for you,” | said, my voice shaking. She looked at the flowers, her expression unreadable. For a moment, she hesitated, but then she took the bouquet, her fingers brushing against mine. | also held out the box of cupcakes. “They’re your favorite flavors,” | said. She shook her head.

She took the box of cupcakes, her fingers brushing against mine. | let out a breath of relief, but | knew the hard part was still to come. | cleared my throat, gathering my thoughts.

| remembered how excited she used to get whenever she saw me, how she would sneak around just to catch a glimpse of me. She used to be so innocent, her gaze always at the floor, almost as if she were afraid to meet my eyes.

She had begged me not to reject her, but now she stood before me, bold and confident, looking me right in the eye. Had she changed that much? Had | changed her? | wasn’t sure | liked the answer to either of those questions.

“Your time is up,” she said, turning to leave.

“Please, just give me one more chance,” | begged, but she kept walking, her high heels. clicking on the floor. Swaying her hips like she was taunting me, daring me to follow her. | knew | had to do something, anything, to make her stay.

So | reached out and grabbed her hand, stopping her in her tracks. She turned to face. me, her expression unreadable. “Let me go,” she said, her voice low and dangerous. “|, Alpha Astel, take back my words and accept you, Nelly Armstrong, as my mate,” | blurted out.

Nelly’s eyes widened in surprise, her lips parting in shock. A small smile tugged at the corner of my mouth. “I mean it,” | said, nodding my head.

For a moment, she just stood there, staring at me, and | wondered if | had made a mistake. But then, she smiled, a genuine, radiant smile, and | knew | had reached her.

“I'm glad you've finally come to your senses,” she said, her voice soft and calm. “I Nelly Armstrong reject Alpha Astel as my mate. My smile faltered as the words sank in. | felt my heart drop, my stomach twisting in

knots.

“What?” |... Think you made a mistake,” | managed to stammer out. Nelly held my gaze, her face devoid of emotion.

“I, Nelly Armstrong, reject Alpha Astel as my mate,” she repeated, her voice clear and steady. | stood there, frozen, unable to move or speak.

“Why?” | finally asked, my voice cracking. Nelly looked away, her expression unreadable.

“It's just not meant to be,” she said softly. “It was nice having this conversation with you,” She smiled slyly, and then she walked away, leaving me standing there, my heart. pounding in

Anger welled up inside of me, burning in my veins. How dare this low-life reject me? How dare she think she could do anything she wanted and then just walk away?

Without thinking, | yelled out, “How long will you keep sleeping with Kex?” She froze in her tracks, her back to me.

The silence that followed was deafening. She turned slowly to face me, her eyes blazing with fury.

“What did you just say?” she asked, her voice low and dangerous.

“You heard me,” | said, my voice trembling. “I’m trying to make things right, but you're acting like a boss because of Kex, when you're not even his real mate. You're just a slut.”

As soon as the words left my mouth, | regretted them. Nelly’s face turned red with. rage, and before | could react, she slapped me across the face. | could feel my cheek. burning as she grabbed my shirt and pulled me close.

“What did you call me?” She hissed.

| grabbed her wrists, trying to pry her hands from me. But she was stronger than | had expected, and she pulled me closer, our faces inches apart. | could feel her breath on my skin, her eyes blazing with fury.

“Don’t you dare put your hands on me,” she hissed, her voice shaking with rage.

| was filled with an unfamiliar rage, and then removed her hands from me roughly as | pinned her against the wall. “You dare to slap me?” | roared, my hands tightening around her neck. For a moment, |

lost control.

Suddenly, | felt a foot connect with my back, sending me sprawling to the floor. | tried. to get up, but someone was on top of me, pinning me down. | turned my head and saw that it was Kex, his face twisted in rage.

“How dare you touch my woman?” he bellowed, his fist connecting with my jaw. “How dare you?” | tried to push him off me, but he was too strong. | was helpless, unable to defend myself. All | could do was endure the blows.

Suddenly, Nelly was there, her hands on Kex’s shoulders, pulling him off of me. | scrambled to my feet, my body trembling with rage. If it hadn’t been Kex, | would have fought back, but | knew that challenging him would be suicide.

So | turned and walked away, my heart pounding, my fists clenched. | wanted to scream, to tear down the walls, to let out all of my rage and frustration. But | knew | had
