Chapter 64 FREDA’S POV “Wh-what? Why would you do that?” I asked with great worry and concern. I was starting to get agitated. “Why would you want to track me down?” I asked, glancing at Lyra and stepping away from her so that she and Francisco would not hear what the person was saying and they wouldn’t see the wor on my face. “Why would you track me?” I asked, folding my free hand across my chest. “I’m kidding,” he chuckled. “Did you actually think I would do that?” He laughed, making fun of the panic in my voice. “Oh…” I said, letting out a sigh of relief. “Why would you joke about something like that?” I asked, glancing back at Lyra. She was whispering something to Cisco and he giggled in response. She glanced at me and I gave her a small nod. “Well… For the fun of it. I just really wanted to find out where you are and I thought it would be fun to push in that joke,” he said and the edge I had initially heard in his voice that caused me to be scared was no longer there. “Well, you got me,” I said and a small smile touched my face. “Is there a particular reason you want to see me so much, though?” I asked, curiosity taking the best of me. “You honesty want to know?” He asked with a teasing tone in his voice. Chapter 6 1 “Yes,” I said, allowing myself to take slow steps around the space around me so I could let go of the remaining nerves that were plaguing me. “Are you sure?” He teased again and I chuckled this time. “Of course,” I said, nodding. I chuckled again when I realized that I was nodding and he could not see me. “I have not been able to stop thinking about you since the first time I saw you. Does that make sense?” He asked and I felt a flush of heat run through every inch of my skin at his worde What? I was flustered. “What?” I asked and my voice came out confused and a little squeaky. Just a little.
He laughed at my expense. D**n it, did this guy get off on my misery? “I knew it would sound ridiculous! That’s why I asked if you wanted honesty.” He said and I nodded before catching myself again. He was not with me, why was I nodding? Why was I being so weird? “Why though? Why are you just reaching out to me?” I asked, looking in Lyra’s direction. She was not looking at me anymore. “I only just found a way to reach you. Initially, I thought it would be a good idea to leave you alone, but I couldn’t stop obsessing over the thought of meeting you again,” He said and I nodded thoughtfully. “In truth,” I began regretfully, “I don’t remember what you look like,” I said. There was silence on the other end of the phone. Chapter 64 1 “Hello?” I called, worried for a second that he had gone off the phone. “Ouch,” he chuckled. “What?” I let out a slow breath of relief. What I could not understand was why I was relieved that he had not gotten off the phone. He was literally just someone I had met once. I was not supposed to be feeling like that. If anything, I was supposed to be kind of creeped out that he had found out my information and reached out to me. “That kind of stung,” he said and I laughed. “I’m sorry. Didn’t mean to ‘hurt’ you,” I said emphasizing the ‘hurt’ word in .unny way. “No problem, Freeds,” he said and I paused. He seemed to sense my hesitance. “Is that okay? Is it okay if I call you Freeds? It just kind of came to my mind as what would be the perfect short form of your name, Freda,” he said, going into what seemed to be a panicked rant and I laughed again. “It’s okay. It was just a childhood nickname of mine and I was wondering if you found that out while looking for me,” I said, shaking my head at the silliness of the thought. “I guess you’ll find that out if you agree to meet me,” he said. and I could not help the grin on my face. attention. I wanted to put a face to his voice, character and sense of humor. “You have me intrigued, I’m not going to lie,” I said with a smile and looked out of the window at the back yard. A squirrel was 46 45% ||| PLEL 288 Wouchers running up the small tree at the backyard. “Yeah?” He teased. “I’ve been told that a lot,” he said and I could imagine him smirking. “Oh please,” I said with an eyeroll. “Please tell me where you are,” he said and his tone was pleading. “I don’t know about that, Colin. How do I know you haven’t found me yet and you’re just doing this for the sake of formality and to not sound like a creep?” I asked. “No, Freda. I already sound like a creep. And the manager at your coffee shop wouldn’t give me any information bey your phone number… And that was after I had sworn on my balls that nothing would happen to you, your son, her or her job,” he said and we both chuckled at the last two words. “Okay. I’ll text you my location. I assure you, the cops will be nearby whenever you decide to visit,” I said with humor and a hint of seriousness. “Okay, Freda. That’s understandable and fair,” he said. “I’ll talk to you later. I have to get back to something,” I said, struggling to keep the smile off my face. “Of course, my queen,” he said with a small chuckle and I hung up. I took a deep breath, wondering what the f**k just happened. I turned around and almost jumped out of my skin when I saw Lyra looking at me with squinted eyes. “Oh my G**d, Lyra! What are you doing?” I exclaimed. “Who was that?” She asked with a grin on her face. I blushed and her eyes widened. “Oh my gosh, you like him! I’m so happy for you,” she squealed and pulled me into a hug. I hugged her back with a small smile in my face.
