PHB 39
That evening, after a heated argument with Veronicaand Sean, Deasy decided to head home right away. Along the way, she grumbled to herself. She was really irritated, once again becoming the subject of mockery by her two friends.
Deasy thought to herself, it’s so easy for her to be called longing for Lucas Orion. She admitted that for the past few days, she had indeed been searching, but, please underline, not because of missing him. She was just annoyed that the guy hadn’t kept his promises.
From the start, Lucas had insisted on getting married. Then he offered, asking for permission to take care of and provide for all of Deasy’s needs during her pregnancy with his child.
However, after Deasy had agreed and only a few weeks had passed, the bespectacled man had disappeared. Well, yes, Lucas still sent food to Deasy every day.
But, he didn’t fulfill his promise to serve and meet Deasy’s other needs. Wait a minute. What did she mean by other needs? Needs related to pregnancy or maybe even biological needs? Well, who knows, maybe after the last hanging service Lucas provided, she had gotten addicted.
Furthermore, even if he was busy or involved in something important, Deasy at least wanted Lucas to keep her informed. That way, she would be more comfortable. No need to go searching anymore.
Huh? But why should Lucas bother giving updates?
After all, Lucas wasn’t Deasy’s boyfriend or anything.
“A guy’s not a guy if he doesn’t tell a lot of lies. Whether he’s handsome or ugly, it’s all the same in their behavior.”
As she grumbled, Deasy continued walking towards her apartment unit. Just as she arrived at the front door, the courier who usually delivered her food also appeared.
“Excuse me, Ma’am. As usual, I’m here to deliver your food.”
Deasy nodded and accepted the paper bag the courier handed her.
“Thank you very much.”
“You’re welcome, Ma’am. Good evening, enjoy your meal.”
“Wait a minute.”
Deasy stopped the courier who was about to leave. Somehow, there was something she really wanted to ask the man in front of her.
“What is it, Ma’am? Is there something missing from the order?”
Deasy shook her head.
“No. I just want to ask. Does the person who orders this food for me, do they come to the restaurant directly or something?”
The courier smiled and shook his head. Then he explained what he knew.
“Mr. Lucas, who orders this food, always orders via phone, Ma’am. For payment, he usually transfers. Only in the beginning did he order in person to take home. Lately, it’s always by phone.”
“Oh, I see,” Deasy responded, nodding. “Okay, thanks for the information.”
“You’re welcome, Ma’am. Anyway, you’re really lucky.”
“Lucky?”
Deasy blinked. Why was she suddenly being called lucky? Besides, it’s just food, what’s so special about it?
“Yeah, Ma’am. You’re really lucky,” the courier repeated while nodding repeatedly. “It’s great to have a super nice partner. He’s handsome, generous, and caring too. That’s why I say you’re lucky.”
Deasy made a strange face. She even repeated what the courier had said.
“What? Handsome?”
The courier nodded confidently once again, affirming what he had just said.
“Yes, Ma’am. He’s handsome, caring, and kind to everyone.”Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“So, it’s not wrong to call Lucas handsome?”
“He’s definitely handsome, Ma’am, his girlfriend says so.”
Deasy awkwardly nodded without suspecting anything. She thought that the definition of handsome could be relative, and everyone had different standards for it, right? So, if in the courier’s eyes, Lucas Orion was handsome, what could she say?
“Well then, I’ll excuse myself, Ma’am. Once again, enjoy your dinner.”
After the courier left, Deasy carried the paper bag containing the food to the dining table. She unpacked it and saw that tonight, Lucas Orion had sent her black pepper beef, stir-fried vegetables, and various fruits for dessert.
Originally, Deasy was quite hungry. But because she was angry, she decided not to eat the food.
For some reason, on her way home earlier, she had been thinking about eating chicken curry noodles with scrambled eggs mixed with various vegetables and some bird’s eye chilies.
As a result, Deasy went to the kitchen. Humming to herself, she boiled water in a pot to cook. Afterward, she chose to quickly freshen up and then prepared to cook and have dinner.
However, as soon as she finished showering and stepped out of her room, Deasy was startled. As she slowly walked toward the kitchen, her sense of smell detected a pungent and overpowering odor. Instantly, her head began to ache, and her stomach churned. Deasy was certain that this overpowering smell was coming from a gas leak in the kitchen.
Deasy’s body felt weak. Fortunately, she was holding her phone at that moment. Leaning against the wall, she tried to leave while contacting the security personnel who were usually on standby in the apartment. However, despite her numerous calls, none of them answered. She tried calling Veronicabut her friend’s phone was busy.
Deasy had only one hope left: Lucas. Reluctantly, she put aside her pride and dialed Lucas Orion’s number, hoping he would respond and come to her aid.
On the first call, he didn’t answer. Even when Deasy tried a second time, Lucas still didn’t respond. Almost desperate, she tried again. Fortunately, the man on the other end finally answered.
“Hello, Ms. Deasy… what’s going on?”
“Lucas…” Deasy whispered weakly. Her breath was labored as she struggled to endure the overwhelming smell. “Help… please help me.”
“Help? Ms. Deasy, what’s wrong?”
Deasy couldn’t respond any further. Right in front of the main door, she tried to get out and save herself. However, before she could even turn the handle, she lost consciousness. After that, Deasy forgot what happened next.
