Chapter 196
Chapter 196
Trevor stood afar and told her coldly, "Wilson was the one who took care of them. You might be unaware about it, but they were so greedy that they felt dissatisfied with the money you gave them and contacted Wilson to ask for more."
"Wilson took action, and they've been admitted to the hospital because of that." Trevor then told her about what Wilson did to Steven and Simon. Alice plopped down on the couch while looking as pale as a sheet as she listened.
Arianna, who was standing at the side, was shocked as she never thought that Wilson would be that ruthless since he was known to have a gentle disposition.
After stepping into the house, he merely stood in the living room with a cold and distant expression. His feelings for Alice and Arianna, his so-called family, gradually faded after he found out about their ruthless behavior.
"Moving forward, Emma and I don't need your well wishes. I won't ask for you to be fond of or accept her. I only hope that you will stop having ill intentions or provoke her."
He then added, "Both of you can't afford to do so."
As Trevor was about to leave, Alice yelled, "Trevor!"
"What do you mean by that?" She got up from the couch and asked him in disbelief, "Must it be Emma?"
Hearing that, Trevor raised his gaze and looked at his mother. She was a very beautiful woman whom Trevor and Arianna inherited their good looks from. However, her thoughts and behavior had become ugly because of her failed marriage.
She was a pitiful woman who was trapped in a marriage with an unfaithful man, and it agonized her. Trevor had advised her to get a divorce, but she insisted that she wouldn't do so. Her first reason was that getting a divorce seemed embarrassing; it would also mean that she assumed defeat, which was unacceptable to her due to her strong character.
Secondly, she wanted to hold on to her position as Mrs. Bateson so that Jared would never be able to marry his mistress. After that, Trevor had given up on her and stopped meddling in her business as she was too headstrong and pessimistic.
At that moment, he stared into his mother's eyes and replied firmly, "Yes."
It had to be Emma. He had never been so sure about it before, and this was clearer to him after all that had happened.
"What is so good about her? There are plenty of beautiful and capable women who are from well-to-do families in Jonestown. Why must you pick her?" Content (C) Nôv/elDra/ma.Org.
"If I had known it earlier, it probably wouldn't have come to how it is now," answered Trevor while he looked down.
He had fallen hard for her without being able to pinpoint what he liked about the woman.
Alice was persistent and said again, "If you dislike Crystal because she was pretentious, I can always introduce some other woman to you—"
"There's no need for that." Trevor cut her off and left without allowing her to finish her sentence.
Alice was enraged, and it took Arianna a while to make sense of what happened. Both of them hated Emma to the core, but they couldn't do anything about it.
Meanwhile, Emma was unaware that Wilson had taken care of Steven and Simon, as well as the fact that Trevor had warned Alice to not harm her. She was furious when her father called to ask for more money, but she calmed down after that. She decided to ignore them and to never pay them a single cent.
She focused on her work after sending Susanna off and putting away the kitchenware that Trevor had given her. Wesley had informed her that the shooting of 'The Love Story of Imperial Consort Rose' would be held in a few days' time, so she had to quickly revise the script.
Three months had passed since she was back at Jonestown. Due to her high work efficiency, the first draft of the script was almost completed. However, some opinions were put forward during the last meeting and she had to do the necessary revisions.
Typically, screenwriters would have to come up with second or third drafts once the first one was completed. The whole process would take at least half a year to be finalized. However, both Wesley and Trevor, the director and the investor of the production, were satisfied with the quality of her script and had come to a unanimous decision to start shooting after the first draft was completed.
Some minor tweaks would have to be done when the shoot was ongoing; it posed a challenge to screenwriters, but she gladly accepted it.
Emma stayed up late last night to amend the script. The next morning, she heard a quarrel from outside. In a daze, she walked to the window, opened the curtains, and was instantly wide awake when she saw the two men standing outside. Wilson and Trevor, who was in his sportswear, were standing outside.
She nearly passed out upon seeing that. She had informed Trevor not to let Wilson know that they were neighbors, but she never expected Wilson to see it for himself.
Emma could hear Wilson questioning Trevor angrily, "Trevor, don't tell me you are living together with Emma."
She immediately changed her clothes and rushed down to clear up the misunderstanding. However, it wasn't Wilson's fault for getting the wrong idea as he saw Trevor walking toward the building after his morning jog when Wilson arrived. He had made such an assumption since he never thought that the house that he gifted Emma would be next to Trevor's unit.
On the other hand, Trevor didn't expect to see Wilson there either. He paused and pointed at the unit next to Emma's before asking calmly, "Mr. Young, would you believe me if I said that I'm Emma's neighbor?"
Upon hearing that, Wilson exploded. "Are you trying to fool me?"
In his heart, Trevor knew that Wilson wouldn't believe him. Just then, Emma rushed down and opened the door.
"Why are you here, Uncle Young?" she greeted him surprisedly.
"I'm here to visit you," he responded before asking again, "This brat told me that he's staying at the unit next to yours. Emma, be honest with me, are both of you staying together?"
Wilson swore that if Emma admitted to both of them staying together, he would break Trevor's leg. He couldn't stand the sight of Trevor after he found out about Emma's unrequited love for him. He even had the urge to beat him up because of that.
"He really is staying next door," she explained.
Hearing that, Wilson was speechless. He couldn't believe that such a coincidence would occur.
"What do you mean? Why is he staying next door?" He sought clarification again.
"It means that the house you hand-picked and gifted to her just so happened to be the unit next to mine," Trevor answered impatiently on behalf of Emma.
Wilson was mad and regretful when he heard that. He regretted not trying to find out who was staying next door before buying the house. His kind intentions had backfired, and what he had done was equivalent to sending Emma into the lion's den.
