Chapter 29

Blake.

I wasn't interested in attending the Masquerade ball considering everything that had been going on with Ciara. However, as one of the princes of the Silver Crest Pack, I was mandated to attend the event.

Perhaps, I didn't want to attend it because I didn't want to face Ciara yet. I had yelled at her and scared her, little wonder she had been avoiding me and I didn't even have the heart to approach her. I needed her back, but going about that was the main problem.

Dressed in a purple royal robe and a black mask that covered the whole of my face, I was already preparing to leave my room when I heard a knock.

I opened the door to see the Luna's favorite maid, Rita, standing at my door.

"What do you want?" I asked, wondering if she was lost or something.

"Greetings, Prince Blake. Luna Queen Vienna has requested your presence at the Verity Garden," she stated.

"Tell her you didn't see me," I snapped.

She bowed low. "Forgive me, your highness, but I am not permitted to tell a lie to my mistress. Also, forgive your humble servant for what she is about to say. My Prince, it will interest you to know that the Luna has invited a special guest and you would be thrilled to see who it is," she explained.

That actually caught my attention. A special guest? Who might it be? Had she somehow managed to sneak in my mother after all these years? What was the Luna plotting this time around?

"Fine, I'll go to her," I said; curiosity getting the best of me.

I shut the door behind me and headed toward the Verity Garden which was on the other side of the palace, wondering what it was that the Luna had in store for me.

Upon reaching the garden, I searched for her with my eyes and spotted her sitting opposite someone whose face I couldn't see because she was backed against me.

"Greetings, Luna," I said with a small polite bow after making it to where she was.

"Greetings, Prince Blake," she said; a suspicious smile playing around her lips.

"You sent for me. May I know the reason behind that?" I asked.

"Blakey," a familiar tiny voice called, sending me traveling down memory lane.

It was as though my mind was playing tricks on me. Of all the people the Luna could have chosen to surprise me with, she had chosen the one that I hated the most. Certainly, it couldn't be her. The voice I heard had been nothing but a mere hallucination and I probably hadn't heard it right.

However, when I turned around to see who it was that had called out my name so fondly, I saw that my mind hadn't been playing around. The voice belonged to whom I had initially thought it was my first love, Samantha. "Oh, Blake, how I have missed you!" she said, standing up and throwing her arms around me, engulfing me in her sweet-smelling perfume.

For a minute, I forgot how to blink. I forgot how to think. I was unable to process my thoughts.

She finally let me go and touched my cheek, so fondly, so affectionately, like she hadn't been the same girl who had chosen my best friend over me six years ago and ended up leaving the Pack and eloping with him. "Why are you looking at me that way? Say something," she said, smiling so brightly.

I stared down at her for a moment before finally shoving her away and turning around to speak to the Luna who was sipping alcohol with that same silly smile plastered on her face. This content is © NôvelDrama.Org.

"What's this for? Why did you bring her here? What are you playing at?" I screamed angrily at her.

She raised her hand, as if to shut me up. "Your scream is loud enough to tear down a house, no wonder Ciara got so terrified of you and stopped speaking to you," she said, infuriating me.

"If your plan is to get me mad right before the event, then you've succeeded. You have won today, but keep in mind that I will soon make you regret calling this evil wench over and bringing up my failed love life in front of her," I threatened.

The Luna guffawed, apparently unshaken by my empty threats. "Oh, please. You're talking about a failed love life when you never even had a love life in the first place. Listen carefully, I didn't call you over here to make you angry. On the contrary, I thought you'd be happy to see Samantha here," she said.

"And why would you ever think that I'd love to see someone who broke my heart and made me miserable for years?" I retorted.

"Come on, Blakey. It's been ages. Can't you just let sleeping dogs lie?" Samantha asked in a whiny tone.

"The dogs were fast asleep, but you are the one that decided to wake them up, and don't you ever in your life refer to me as Blakey again!" I thundered.

She heaved a sigh then boldly stepped closer to me and took my hands in hers, squeezing them gently. "I'm sorry for how I hurt you all those years ago and I'm not trying to justify what happened, but I was still young and stupid. I eloped with Keith and he turned out to be physically and emotionally abusive. I couldn't leave without him finding me and threatening to kill me if I should try to escape again, but a few months back, the Luna sent some men to rescue me and she helped me reconcile with my parents. I'm back now and I'm not leaving anytime soon," she said, with tears in her eyes.

I almost felt sorry for her. "I guess your story should be touching, but sadly for you, I'm not touched. As a matter of fact, I feel everything you suffered was karma for the hell you put me through. I have already moved on and I couldn't care less if you're back or not," I said, then forcefully took her hands off mine.

"Blake"

I ignored her and faced the Luna again. "If this is all a ploy to get me back with Samantha so that Alden can have a chance with Ciara, then you've failed. Try a different method," I said to her.

The Luna stood up; the annoying smile ever constant on her face. "I love my son, Alden, more than anything in the world, but even I can tell there's no future for him and Ciara. As his mother, I have to secure his future and the only way I can do that is to ensure that Liam doesn't have Ciara. Even if Alden is unsuccessful in securing her as his match, I want you to at least have her instead. Liam would make life unbearable for us all, especially Alden, if Ciara accepts him, and that is why I have chosen to help you," she said.

I scoffed. "You're helping me by forcing another woman down my throat? Is that your definition of help?" I retorted.

"No one is forcing anyone down your throat, Blake. The Luna just thinks it will be wise if we pretend to be a couple," Samantha said.

I frowned. "And how would that help me win over Ciara?"

"The key to a woman's heart is to make her jealous, of course, not with worthless maids. Make her jealous by being around someone who is a worthy opponent. I already know you've tried over the last few days to get Ciara back and you've failed; this is how to actually win her back. Make her feel like you have a better option. Trust me, she'll be the one running back to you," the Luna said.

I thought about what she had said for a moment, and to be fair, it made sense. However, knowing who Luna Vienna was, I couldn't trust her. She was even more cunning than a fox and I knew better.

"Well, thank you for your kind gesture, but I'll get Ciara back my own way," I said, dismissively.

"Blakey" Samantha called, holding my hand.

I shoved her off so swiftly that she lost her balance and fell to the floor, but luckily enough, I was able to swing around immediately and catch her in my arms.

Our eyes met and we remained that way for minutes, which felt endless.

Samantha had always been a beauty to behold, but after maturing and gaining weight in all the right places, she was even more beautiful. With long ebony hair like silk, doe-like hazel eyes, heart-shaped lips and heavenly-white dentition, standing over 5'8 tall, she was perfection itself.

Truly, someone like her will drive Ciara crazy, so crazy enough to want me back, realizing she wouldn't want to see any other person with me other than her. Still, was this the right decision to make?

I snapped out of my thoughts and got a hold of myself, then helped her up and began to walk off again.

"All these years, I haven't been able to forgive myself for what I did to you. Please, give me a chance to make things right. I promise it won't be more than a pretend affair," she said.

For whatever reason, I couldn't keep on walking and just stopped in my tracks. "Be my partner at the Masquerade ball. If we succeed in making Ciara jealous, then we can call it a game that will only come to an end once I am able to make Ciara mine again," I said.

"Deal," Samantha agreed, scurrying over to me and placing her arm in mine.

We walked away and I didn't bother looking back at the Luna, although I was confident she had a satisfied smile on her lips. I already knew she had ulterior motives. However, using Samantha would get me the result I desired and I didn't mind playing the Luna's game to achieve that.
