Chapter 20
Chapter 20
Serenity glanced at the back of her right hand, which Amanda had stepped on earlier today.
“I just bumped into something while sweeping the floor today. It’s nothing serious,” she causally replied, not wanting Jackson to worry.
“Really?” Jackson asked as he looked into Serenity’s eyes intently. “Sis, if someone bullied you, just let me know. I’ll stand up for you.”
He would make those people pay and ensure that no one would dare mess with her in the future.
Serenity’s heart raced for a moment. It felt as if Jackson knew everything.
“I’ll protect myself,” she said.
“But what if you can’t?” Jackson argued.
‘If it really came to that, it’s not like telling Jack would make any difference.’
However, Serenity didn’t voice these thoughts out loud, fearing it would hurt the man’s pride.
“Sis… don’t you like me protecting you?” Jackson posed another question, his deep inky eyes fixed on
her.
Serenity bit her lips and thought for a moment.
“Then, when the day comes and you find your way in life and become strong, you can protect me. For
I’ll protect you and try my best to keep others from bullying us.”
now,
Something flashed in his eyes, but Jackson didn’t comment any further.
He simply nodded lightly and replied, “Alright.” Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
After dinner, Serenity changed out of her slightly torn uniform, then pulled out a needle and thread to mend them under the light.
Jackson sat beside her, stealing glances at the woman who was enveloped by the dim light.
Her head was lowered, and her shoulder-length hair cascaded down. Her hair seemed slightly dry and dull, perhaps due to the lack of care and nutrition from her three years in prison as well as the exposure to the current elements. Her skin wasn’t as fair as it looked, and though she looked delicate, a sense of weathered hardness lined her face due to the hardships she had endured in life.
But right now, as Serenity meticulously stitched the torn clothing in her hand, a tranquil and elegant air emanated from her, which was attractive in its own unique way.
It was as if… one could never tire from looking at her.
In Jackson’s life and circle, he rarely saw women mending clothes like this. Many of them would intentionally present themselves as noble, elegant, or even cute to capture his attention.
It had never occurred to him that such a simple and plain aspect could captivate all of his attention one day.
Serenity finished mending her uniform and looked up to meet Jackson’s eyes.
He was so focused on her that it made her blush.
“W-what is it? Why are you looking at me like that?”
“I was just thinking… Sis, you’re beautiful,” Jackson replied.
Serenity chuckled. She knew the difference between her current appearance and her past was great. It was unlikely that anyone would consider her attractive when she stepped back out into the world. At
best, she wasn’t ugly.
Still, hearing his praise made her feel good. It was evident that women still enjoyed flattery.
“By the way, I came across a piece of clothing online when I had some free time today. Take a look. Do you like it?”
As she spoke, Serenity pulled out her phone and opened the shopping website to show him the sweater she had added to her cart as she handed the device to him.
Jackson looked at the sweater. It was a plaid sweater, and the price was thirty dollars. The item was also popular as it had a lot of sales. The monthly sale display showed that tens of thousands of units were already sold.
“You only have one sweater for winter, and you don’t have any spares. Buying one would at least give you a backup. This one has good reviews as they say it offers great value for money. Plus, I think this
style would look good on you,” Serenity explained.
