Chapter 69 Evelina's lucky to have a sister like you.
Chapter 69 Evelina's lucky to have a sister like you.
The reporters' questions were all sharp. But even though they tried to push Pearl into a corner to get
the truth, Pearl still managed to avoid all the pits. She never revealed anything about her relationship
with Evelina. And at the same time, she even had strongly denied the rumors about having bad blood
with her. It was amazing to see how good she was at handling such problems.
This press conference was to clear up the rumors about the hospital, not Evelina. So at the end of the
meeting, Mr. Watson gave the administrative manager an meaningful look and Dr. Butler immediately
got his meaning to dismiss people.
"That's all for today. Thank you for all the reporters here. About this thing, our hospital won't respond to
it anymore. After all, the hospital should back to its main duties to cure patients and save lives. We
don't want to get too involved with the privates things. Thanks for your understanding."
After Dr. Butler finished that, the security guards instructed all the people to leave the room orderly.
Pearl returning to her office, she took off the coat and hang it on the rack. After downing some water,
she sat down and finally felt a little relaxed. Thinking of those questions form the reporters, Pearl felt
tired again.
Somehow, Evelina crossed her mind out of nowhere.
Evelina was a quiet girl since she was young. She disliked talking, so no one expected she would be
enrolled by an arts academy and even become an actress. Pearl wondered how Evelina could handle
the reporters these years, when she was abroad.
While she was thinking, a message popped on the screen.
"Dr. Yonng, I have seen the press conference. Thank you."
It was from Claire, Evelina's manager. Claire contacted her yesterday, hoping she could do their favor
to clarify the matter.
"You're welcome." Pearl replied soon. But after a moment's hesitation, she sent her another message,
"Please continue taking care of Evelina in the future. Thank you."
After a while, Claire also replied to Pearl with a message, "Evelina's lucky to have a sister like you."
Pearl didn't know how to reply this, so she only put down the phone with mixed feelings.
To Evelina, she probably wouldn't think her as a luck. She may even hope Pearl never existed.
The controversy surrounding the drama crew died away soon after the press conference.
Since the victim Pearl had already come out to clarify the truth. The public wouldn't bother to linger on it
anymore. Curiously enough, discussions about that incident on the Internet also disappeared overnight.
Pearl had no time to care more about the public opinion. After she got back to work, she had been busy
with consultations, surgeries, and exams for the interns the whole day. Even after work, she had to help
Dr. Wale with his students' thesis at night.
Just after the last operation on Friday, Pearl changed her surgery scrubs to go out the room and then
she came across with Dr. Wale immediately.
Dr. Wale soon asked, "What do you think of the theses of my students?"
"I have not finished reading them. But there are a lot of format mistakes in their papers. It will take them
much time."
"Then hurry up to finish their thesis."
"Dr. Wale, I'm a human, not a machine,” Pearl said bitterly, "I have been so busy with my daily work.
How can you still urge me to do the part-time job?"
Dr. Wale shoved his hands into his pockets and huffed, "Hey, but I paid you for that, didn't I? You take
the money and you work. It's common sense, right?"
"Okay, okay, fine, I won't argue with you about this. I'm exhausted now. I promise you I will go back to
finish their theses, okay? Anyway, I'm going back to the school tomorrow, and I can also bring the
theses to your students."
Pearl really had no strength to make jokes with Dr. Wale anymore. After the long operation, she was
almost worn out.
"After the anniversary celebration tomorrow, my wife wants you to have dinner at our place."
Pearl laughed. "Dr. Wale, why not say it directly? We could've ended the conversation."
"It's her idea, not mine."
After throwing these words to Pearl, Dr. Wale turned around and left immediately as if he's too lazy to
talk with her.
The hump on his back looked more evident now than seven years ago. It no longer looked as straight
as before. Pearl leaned against the wall slowly, feeling a little sad suddenly.
People always said that 'Time flies'. But Pearl disagreed with that. She thought the youth and vigor
would fade soon, but time would be there all the time, unflinching and unchanging.
Next day was Saturday, which was also the 100-year anniversary of the Ocpeace Medical University.
At just about eight o'clock in the morning, Pearl had arrived at the university with Bonny and Brandon.
She promised Alex to give a speech to the students of clinical medicine on the spread of
viruses. Although there were many internship opportunities for them, they could not see the rare cases,
such as the spread of viruses, new tumors, and so on in the short time.
The moment she got out of the car, Alex called her.
"Pearl, have you arrived now?"
"Yes, I just found a parking space. There are too many people. Where're you now?"
"I am next to the globe."
"So am I." Pearl looked around but her eyes caught no sight of Alex.
"I see you." Alex's voice came from the phone. Then he hung up the phone the next second.
Looking up, Pearl saw a white figure walking to her from a long distance. The figure approached her as
he also waved his hand to them, "Hi Pearl, Brandon, Bonny."
Bonny's was a honey-lipped girl. At the sight of Alex, she instantly rushed to him and greeted him,
"Uncle Alex!"
"Ah," Alex lifted Bonny up to sit on his arm. After bowing his head to greet Brandon, he said to Pearl,
"We should go now. The students have been waiting for us in the reporting hall now. The talk will start
very soon."
Pearl nodded and said, "Alex, you should put Bonny down. She's really heavy, and she can walk by
herself." Copyright Nôv/el/Dra/ma.Org.
Bonny's a seven-year-old girl now, who was no longer as light as before. It grew more difficult for Pearl
to hold her now. So she would avoid hugging Bonny if she could.
"It's okay. She's not heavy to me." Alex smiled as bright as the sun of the day.
They walked side by side to the hall. A handsome man plus a beautiful lady were always the attention
magnet, especially when there were two lovely kids with them. All the onlookers eyed them enviously.
A black car was passing through the Magnolia Street, circling around the landmark building for a
parking space. It just went past them.
The car moved very slowly as it ventured through the crowd.
"Isn't that Dr. Yonng?" Looking at the figure in front of him,Ted said without hesitation in the passenger
seat, "Is Dr. Yonng also a graduate from this University?"
His words echoed in the car. The figure reflected in the rear view mirror frowned slightly on the back
seat. He raised his eyes to look out through the the windshield.
Not too far from his car, there were two familiar figures walking side by side slowly. They're Pearl and
Alex. The latter was speaking happily to the former. They seemed to enjoy each other's company.
Richard's expression darkened suddenly.
