Chapter 49 Don't Expect Too Much From Mommy's Cooking
Richard took the candy without saying anything.
Pearl got her hand back slowly, clenching her fingers. She didn't know if there was any illusion. For a
time, she felt that she didn't give Richard candy, and he didn't accept it.
In the backseat, Brandon looked at the view outside the window and asked suddenly, "is uncle's house
near here?"
"Not really." Richard said.
His words were simple, but made Pearl, who was helping Bonny wipe her mouth, stunned.
Since he didn't live near here, why did he come here to shop? And he knew he lived nearby. What's
more, he knew she lived close by.
But he doesn't want to explain at all.
Soon, the car arrived at their apartment.
After getting home, Pearl went to the kitchen and poured a cup of tea. "Drink some tea, I'll cook first."
"Ok."
After Pearl entered the kitchen, Richard looked around. The place looked messier since the last time
he came. Probably because she was busy after returning to work and had no time to clean up.
"Daddy, ice cream!"
A sweet voice sounded, pulling him back to his senses.
Looking back, Richard saw that Bonny had opened the newly bought ice cream and generously dug a
spoonful and handed it to his mouth. It was so cute that any heart would melt.
At this moment, he suddenly felt that it was easy to be satisfied to have such a daughter.
The busy figure in the kitchen, the playful sound of children in the living room, the door of the balcony
was not closed, and the curtains were blown up by the night wind, revealing the moonlight behind the
curtains.

After half an hour, Pearl served the dishes onto the table.
Everyone sat around the small table. "Is this what you meant you could cook?" Richard looked at the
dishes in front of him and asked.
Apart from a boiled shrimps, there was almost nothing else in the table. They were all black and didn't
know what it was.
"As long as it's cooked." Pearl's face was a little stiff, and she handed out the tableware. "Just eat. It's
good enough to have vegetables and meat."
Bonny raised her hand to cover her mouth and whispered to Richard, "See, don't expect too much from
Mommy's cooking. It's terrible."
"Bonny, what are you talking about?" Pearl asked, with a bit of warning.
Bonny stuck out her tongue at Richard and then covered her mouth to deny, "Nothing. I said nothing."
Richard held his fork, pointed to one of the plates, and asked, "What's this?"
"It's eggplant." Pearl took a look at it and spoke proudly.
It was just black. It could be easily mistaken as some sort of dipping sauce, if you didn't know it was
eggplant
"Then what about this?" Richard frowned and pointed to another dish.
"Tomato and fried eggs."
It was the same black, just slightly lighter than the eggplant. You couldn't see the true colors of
tomatoes and eggs at all.
There were three dishes. One was baked eggplant, and the other was fried eggs. They were all simple
home dishes. How she could screw them up was definitely a talent.
"The prawns are okay." Pearl felt a little guilty, and she said, "Try the prawns. I'll order some other
dishes."
"It's fine." Richard tried his best not to moch her. He grabbed a piece of what she said was eggplant
and ate it without changing his face.
Brandon, who was next to him, widened his eyes and he was a little frightened.
He knew very well about Pearl's cooking ability. After all, he had experienced a lot.
What a surprise, Richard was still able to eat it calmly. He even managed to try both. It was either he
had extraordinary perseverance, or his taste buds were completely dead.
"Are you alright?" Pearl knew very well how terrible her cooking skills were. She asked reluctantly.
"It's a little salty. Put less salt next time," Richard said casually. He tapped on the plate and said faintly,
"But this is the plate with eggs."
Pearl was stunned for a second. Richard had picked up a piece of what resembled an egg from the
'eggplant' dish, and it made her even more awkward. She wanted to hide herself.
The two children ate a lot of snacks. Naturally, they didn't eat much for dinner. Pearl peeled half a basin
of shrimps for them to eat, then they ran to play respectively, leaving Pearl and Richard alone at the
table.
Pearl hesitated for a long time and asked, "How's your wedding preparation?"
"Why are you concerned about my wedding?" Richard's eyes darkened a little.
"I was just asking." Pearl braced herself and said, "I heard that Adriana gets along very well with your
family."
"She is kind and gentle, unlike some people who are used to being bossy and domineering. They think
they're the center of the world, and everything has to revolve around them."
These words were so harsh.
Of course. Pearl understood Richard's real meaning, but she pretended she did not. She said, "Yes,
Adriana is kind and gentle. I heard that your mother was quite a strong woman, so Adriana would get
along very well with your mother."
Richard said nothing, but his frown deepened, and his eyes turned cold.
Realizing that the atmosphere changed, Pearl changed the topic quickly and asked, "By the way, how
is your brother?"
"What do you want?"
Richard interrupted her with an angry face. "You said you wanted to apologize to me, but now you're
asking about my family. What do you want to do?"
Pearl thought she was asking indirectly. However, in view of their relationship now, her questions
seemed rather out of place.
Sure enough, Richard noticed something.
"I don't have any other intentions. Don't misunderstand me. If you don't want to talk, then forget it." She
explained herself.
If she had known that it would be so awkward, she wouldn't have asked him anything. She would even
never invite him over.
Seeing her silence, Richard frowned. He felt that his tone seemed a little heavy. "Casper has been in
poor health. The doctor said he should continue physiotherapy, but the chances of him standing are
very slim."
"I'm sorry about that." Pearl was stunned for a moment.
Casper was Richard's younger brother and they were really close. A car accident paralyzed him seven
years ago. Because of this, Helena placed all her hopes on Richard.
The Zellweger family was a bit complicated. Helena divorced Richard's father early, and Richard's
father remarried soon after. His second wife was an artist, and they had a daughter. She was Richard's
half-sister.
Back when they were dating, Richard rarely mentioned his family, but he never hid it from her. He didn't
seem to resent his father. On the contrary, he was always impatient when he occasionally mentioned
his mother.
