Chapter 38
Chapter 38
Madison chuckled at Daisy’s arrogant tone and said, “Do you think I’d fall into the same pit twice?”
She wondered where the Preston family got their confidence from.
Hearing Madison’s words, Daisy was furious. “You and I are sworn enemies. Want to remarry my brother? Don’t
dream on!”
Madison’s eyes flashed with cunning. Suddenly, she asked a random question. “Ms. Preston, in the three years at the Preston family, have I offended you? Didn’t I fulfill my duty as Mrs. Preston?”
With venomous words, Daisy replied, “Even if you do everything perfectly, a wretched person like you stains everything you touch! Don’t expect me to look up to you. It’s just wishful thinking!”
Madison, not angered, sounded pitiful as she said, “You never paid me a penny for what I did but treated me as a maid. Why be so mean?”
“How dare you mention money. You should feel honored. I bet if you apply for a maid position elsewhere and mention your experience at the Preston family, you’ll be hired immediately, maybe even at a higher salary.”
Madison laughed. “Is that so? It seems I made a great deal.”
“You did make a great deal, but the thought of living with a wretch like you for three years makes me sick!”
T Madison, looking amused, handed Daisy a business card and said, “Ms. Preston, here’s a neurologist’s business card. I suggest you go check your brain. Oh, by the way, remember to mention my name for a 20% discount.”
Angry, Daisy tore the card into pieces. ‘Since Madison left the Preston family, she had become more articulate. Even I wasn’t a match for her. But she is still dumped. Poor woman!‘ she thought.
“We’ll see,” Daisy said harshly.
After making her threat, Daisy left with her head held high.
Madison was unwilling to let it go when she thought about the three years she spent with the Preston family. If Daisy begged for forgiveness, Madison would not let her off the hook.
Daisy thought she had successfully turned the tables, Madison could only swallow her grievances, and even with all her bravado, she dared not fight back.
Daisy thought happily, “A wretch will always be a wretch. With no backbone and no support, she doesn’t dare play tricks”
As Daisy turned away, Madison pressed the pause button on the recording.
Madison stared at Daisy’s departing figure and couldn’t help but smirk. Ever since the decision to divorce Neville, she had done her best to distance herself from the Preston family. However, they kept provoking her. If she didn’t show some strength, they’d just keep pushing her around.
Outside the mall, Neville was smoking. The smoke lingered around his face, accentuating his stern features. Passersby stopped to look, but as soon as they caught his icy gaze, they hurriedly moved away.
Micah commented, “Neville, you didn’t give your ex–wife any money?”
The word “ex–wife” sounded harsh to Neville’s ears. He replied coldly, “She didn’t want it. Should I force it on her?”
“That’s interesting. She hasn’t taken a penny from you, and she’s not in the good graces of the Guzman family. How did she become a super VIP at Collins? I remember Daisy didn’t even get that privilege, right?”
Daisy’s sarcastic voice came from behind. “She must have hooked up with another man after being dumped by my brother.”
In Daisy’s eyes, Madison had nothing other than her looks. So, she had to rely on her appearance to enchant
men.
Neville’s expression darkened, and he abruptly snapped the cigarette. “Did you apologize?”
Daisy feigned a distressed look and said, “Of course. But it seems she has vented all her grievances on me. I was
humiliated by her.”
Neville pursed his thin lips, thinking that Madison was reluctant to let go.
At that moment, Madison came out with groceries. Neville, who was about to get into the car, walked towards
her.
Madison instinctively took a few steps back, creating distance between them.
Neville was annoyed by her vigilance and said coldly, “Give me your account number.”
Madison smiled and, with a hint of mockery, responded, “What do you mean?”
Neville, feeling increasingly irritated, stated, “You’re still unwilling to let go, right? Fine. I’ll give you 64 million dollars. 60 million dollars is compensation for the divorce, and 4 million dollars is for the bag.”
Madison laughed even harder. This was Neville’s typical way of solving problems. He thought money could solve every problem. What a blatant insult.
It turns out I’m worth that much for being a maid, Madison thought.
Her laugh was like a sharp knife, causing him a piercing pain.
Neville, accustomed to being in control, was emotionally affected by Madison. Such a feeling irritated him.
“Madison, if you are with someone else, you will get nothing from me.”NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Madison chuckled and clapped her hands. “20 million dollars a year. How generous. Mr. Preston, you are the most generous benefactor I’ve ever encountered. However, I’ll feel disgusted to take what belongs to you. As for
your sister, I haven’t found a reason to forgive her, so keep this money to take your sister for a check– up or for
your unborn child.”
Neville was pissed off. Since their divorce, Madison had become increasingly venomous. He was fixated on the first half of her statement and didn’t pay attention to the latter part.
When Madison turned to leave, he suddenly gripped her wrist and said with hostility, “The most generous benefactor? How many benefactors do you have? Finding my money disgusting but feeling justified spending others‘ money?”
Madison felt like her heart had been stabbed. Neville could easily hurt her feelings.
She looked up at Neville with reddened eyes and said, “Neville, the most foolish thing I’ve done in my life is falling in love with you. And the most regrettable thing is marrying you. I’m happy that I woke up in time and left you!”
He felt suffocated to see her heart–wrenching and desperate appearance, and he involuntarily let her go.
Seeing him let go, Madison turned around and left with a resolution.
Neville didn’t think she really gave up on him. She had loved him so much. How could she easily let go? ‘She must say those words in a fit of anger,’ he thought.
However, Madison won, successfully piercing through his heart.
