Chapter 24

“What are you trying to say?” Alex stared at her, his fingers were tapping on the

desk.

It was rare for him to call her her full name. “Candice Renault, don’t try to shift the blame.”

Candice was stunned. She asked, “Me? Shifting the blame?”

Alex’s expression remained stern and indubitable.

Candice’s eyes slightly narrowed. Before she could speak, Sonia came over.

The girl had a craft bag on her shoulder. She went up to Alex and tugged at his sleeve. “Let’s go.”

She then spotted Candice and smiled at her.

Candice barely reacted.

Sonia blinked several times and realization struck. “Candice, I told Julie to inform you that Alex is free. Why didn’t you come over?”

Julie was one of the veterans of Aether.

When Candice first joined the company, the woman gave her a hard time.

Everyone in Aether knew that Candice and Julie were not on good terms.

Sonia intentionally asked Julie to inform Candice.

No wonder Alex would question Candice for shifting the blame.

Candice looked at Alex in silence. She gave him the pen and said, “Al… Mr. Elysian, please sign here.”

Alex looked at her and scoffed. He took the pen and signed the document

Sonia was looking at her with wide eyes and curled lips.

Even when the girl dragged Alex out of the office, Candice could still hear her sweet voice saying, “Alex, let’s go to a popular restaurant.”

Alex was kind and gentle when he cared about someone but Candice had never experienced this side of him before. She pulled her attention away from the man.

When she arrived at Wing City, it was already 10 p.m. Candice headed to the pre- booked hotel to rest for the night.

The next day, when Candice met with the client, the client did not look happy at all.

“Where’s Mr. Elysian?”

The client was Aether’s regular partner and he had always met with Alex and Candice together.

The client insisted on seeing Alex himself or else there would be no deal. Candice tried persuading the client a few times but her efforts were futile.

She was forced to call Alex.

Alex was strangely easy–going this time. He booked a ticket immediately and arrived at Wing City in the afternoon.

Candice went to fetch him from the airport but she did not see Sonia anywhere.

She asked, “You didn’t bring her along?”

Everyone in the company knew how much Alex pampered the girl so Candice thought she would tag along.

“She’s busy with other stuff,” Alex replied succinctly.

He strode fast with his long legs. Candice had a hard time keeping up with her heels.

Despite the discomfort, she said with the same expression, “I’ll ask Peter to book another room for you.”

“It’s okay.” Alex said emotionlessly. “I’ll just stay at yours. Skip the trouble.”

Alex was not a fan of trouble.

Candice did not convince him otherwise as well.

As a matter of fact, the man had always been like that. Whenever he brought her out for a business trip, the two of them usually shared a room.

Those who tagged along had gotten used to it.

When they arrived at Candice’s room, Alex went to the washroom to clean up.

Candice received a call from Jackson. His gentle voice always warmed her heart and soothed her mind.

He invited Candice to lunch tomorrow.

Before Candice could answer, the door to the washroom opened.

Alex’s unbuttoned shirt was dripping, revealing his collarbone and chest. His strong muscles were showing but not entirely.

He looked at Candice and said, “Get me a towel. I am taking a shower.”

He was not particularly soft with his voice and the room was quiet, so Jackson heard him through the phone.

A moment of hesitance later, he asked Candice, “Is Alex with you?”
