Chapter 53
Chapter 53
Charles tried to get close and chatted enthusiastically with Sonia.
“This is my first time in Stugan City. Lex said it’s like a graduation trip. Are there fun things to do here?”
Sonia’s tone was naive and romantic, truly sounding like a tourist.
Candice glanced back and saw Alex closing his eyes to rest. Alex liked the quiet, and he hated it when people
were noisy during his rest.
However, Sonia’s cheerful voice didn’t seem to bother him.
Candice used to remember Alex’s preferences very well. Even during business trips, she would prioritize his
rest by trying to postpone all work. She considered everything for him, but ultimately, she couldn’t compare to
someone like Sonia.
Candice averted her gaze and didn’t participate in Sonia’s conversation. She leaned against the car window and closed her eyes to rest.
Upon arriving at the hotel, there wasn’t much to do in the evening. Candice went straight to her room. As she
walked away, she could still hear Charles arranging a room for Alex.
Candice thought Alex brought Sonia along to give her some prestige. However, when they left the hotel to go
to the branch office the next morning, Sonia was nowhere to be seen.
Alex didn’t explain anything and simply got into the car. Charles brought a secretary along this time who
occupied the front passenger seat, so Candice had to sit in the back.
With a person in between her and Alex, Candice looked out the window in silence. Charles enthusiastically
explained the situation at the branch office.
Alex, whether he was listening or not, occasionally checked his phone and seemed to be responding to
messages.
Only when Charles finished speaking did he casually ask Candice, “Candice, did you remember everything?”
“Yes,” Candice replied softly.
Alex scoffed lightly and turned his gaze to her. “Is that so? I thought you were daydreaming just now.”
Suddenly, a stray dog rushed out in front of the car. The vehicle made a sharp turn. Candice was unprepared for the sudden change in momentum and was tossed in Alex’s direction.
She collided with Alex, her hands landing on his sturdy thighs. Alex grunted at the impact. When the vehicle returned to its course, Charles kept apologizing.
Candice used a bit of force on the hands that were on Alex’s thighs to sit back properly.
She took a slow breath and was about to move away from Alex when she heard him whisper, “Was it
intentional?”
After saying that, he glanced at Candice’s hand that was still on his thigh. Candice withdrew her hand calmly
and said, “Sorry.”
Alex snorted coldly and turned away.
Candice and Alex followed Charles to tour the branch office. During lunchtime, Charles wanted to treat everyone to a meal, but Alex raised his phone and said, “No need. Someone is waiting for me at the hotel.”
That “someone” was Sonia, who had indeed come for sightseeing this time.
Candice didn’t go back with Alex and planned to have lunch with Charles. However, Alex called her in a cold
and flat tone, “You’re coming back with me.”
Candice wanted to refuse but heard him say, “There’s some work to be arranged.”
Charles intended to send them back to the hotel, but Alex declined. So, Charles had to call for a car.
In the car, Candice asked Alex, “What work needs to be arranged?”
Alex lazily stared at her as he asked, “Did you bring your driver’s license?”
Candice frowned, and Alex continued, “We’re missing a driver. Can you handle it, Miss Secretary?”
By the time they reached the hotel, Sonia was already waiting at the entrance. Seeing Alex and Candice return NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
together, she initially looked a bit displeased.
But upon hearing that Candice would be the driver, she smiled again.
“Candice, thank you for your hard work, then.
