Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Jasper’s anguished voice came from the phone.
“Esther, you finally called. The doctor says that Tinkerbell’s organs are showing signs of failure. Come
over now…” There was a hint of a sob in Jasper’s voice. “It’ll be too late otherwise.”
Esther had just gone through surgery, and the anesthesia’s effect had yet to wear out, but she was
already greeted with such cruel news.
Without any hesitation, she pulled off the needles and cables on her and stumbled out of the hospital
ward, disregarding that she was still in a patient gown. She rushed to the elevator with a stagger.
“Esther Quill, where are you going?” The nurse on duty put herself in front of Esther as she cried
frantically, “You’ve just gone through surgery. You have to take a good rest…”
“I have no time. Move away.”
”
Esther pushed the nurse off and dashed into the elevator. As she leaned against the smooth wall
inside, she panted harshly.
The other patients and their families in the elevator avoided her, assuming she was a psychiatric
patient.
Esther could care less about what they thought. She just wanted to see her daughter in the hospital as
soon as she could.
She rushed out of the hospital building with a stumble, and Cole saw from afar how sickly she was, like
she would faint at any time. He hurried to her and held her arm, asking in concern, “Madam, what’s
wrong?”
“Cole!” Esther grabbed his arm and pleaded, “Can you send me to People’s Hospital right now?”
Cole immediately realized that she wanted to go see Tinkerbell. Without a second thought, he agreed,
“I’ll send you there now.”
He helped the extremely weak Esther toward the car park, but they saw Bradley in their way just as
they arrived at the elevator.
“Cole, you’re my special assistant.”
Bradley’s handsome face was icy and merciless.
Chills ran down Cole’s spine. “Mr. Warner, Madam-”
“Madam?” Bradley smirked mockingly. “Her?”
He brushed past Cole and Esther gracefully but said ruthlessly, “Cole, three seconds…”
Esther was afraid that she would cost Cole his job and struggled to pull her arm from the latter’s hold
as she thanked him weakly.
“Thank you.” NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
Without looking back, she dragged her fatigued body toward the hospital exit.
Cole hurried to catch up to Bradley and explained on Esther’s behalf, “Mr. Warner, the kid from the
welfare home has acute leukemia. Her organs are failing…”
Bradley’s expression was impassive, not at all caring about Esther’s pitiful state or Tinkerbell’s life and
death.
Esther finally hailed a cab by the road and arrived at the hospital.
“Esther, you’re finally here!”
Jasper received Esther at the hospital lobby, who looked like she would pass out any second. Esther
could care less about how weak she felt as she gripped Jasper’s hand and pleaded, “Jasper, take me
to the doctor, please. I can go for a more detailed test now. I can proceed with the surgery at any time.”
Jasper held Esther and advised her in worry, “Esther, I know you’re anxious, but we should trust the
doctor now that Tinkerbell’s in the hospital.”
If he had not been holding Esther, she might just faint at any time.
Fortunately, Jasper spotted a wheelchair rental and rented one for Esther, considering her weakness.
He then wheeled her to the floor, where Tinkerbell’s ward was.
As soon as they got out of the elevator, they saw doctors and nurses sprint toward Tinkerbell’s room
