Chapter Seventeen
Corinna
Olive and I had spent hours walking around the massive shopping centre until it was time for it to close,
buying a whole closet of clothing that I was in huge need of, throughout our shopping trip we'd become
less awkward and once that happened, we realised her and I got along extremely well.
Laughing at something Olive had said, I exit the car to find Malakai standing at the front door of his
mansion, at first patiently waiting for me but when he sees Olive and I struggling to unload the endless
amounts of shopping bags from the trunk and backseat of the car, he comes over to help us.
The three of us manage to get everything into the room that had been assigned to me in one trip, which
was surprising considering Olive and I ended up having to ask for help from two human boys who
worked in one of the stores.
After Olive announcing we should hang out again, she gives me a hug and exits the room, leaving my
mate and I alone together. Malakai strides toward me, pulling me into his arms, he breathes me in then
lays a soft kiss on my temple.
" I've missed you. " He mumbles.
" I was only gone a few hours. " I chuckle. " I've missed you too though. "
Pulling away from him, I start making trips back and forth from the closet, unloading all of my new
things while he sit on the bed watching me. I bite my lip as I set a pair of jeans on one of the shelves.
" So I was thinking about something. " I call out to him.
Staying in the closet, I wait for him to rely but when I turn my head he's leaning against the doorframe.
He nods his head, urging me to continue, so I do. " Well you can't go out in the sun right? But what I
was thinking was... Couldn't you ask a witch for help? Surely there's some kind of loophole. "
He hums, suddenly looking awfully thoughtful. " Interesting. What made you think of that? "
The truth to that question was that I'd been pondering it since he told me that he'd never once been out
in the sun before, I wanted to help him, I'm sure I could help him, but then he'd learn about my gifts and
I'm just not ready for that yet. I shrug my shoulders at him as a response.
" I'm sure there probably is a loophole, as you've called it, but unfortunately my darling I don't know any
witches and witches tend to deeply dislike my kind, meaning it's unlikely I'll ever know one. " He
explains. " Thank you though. "
" For what? " I question, my eyebrows furrowed.
" For being thoughtful enough to try think of a way for me to walk in the sun. " He smiles, grabbing my
hand and bringing it to his lips for a moment. " Now let me help you put all theses clothes away. "
The two of us silently fill the closet with everything I'd bought, my thoughts race as I attempt to figure
out how I could help my mate. When the two of us are in bed, cuddling I finally decide to continue the This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
conversation.
" You know... I know a witch or two. " I confess, lifting my head from his chest to look up at him.
Confusion crosses his face. " What? How? "
" I met a few over the years as a rogue. " I shrug.
" I doubt they'd do you any favours like that though. " He raises his eyebrows.
" They might. " I frown.
" Witches don't help anyone but their own Cori. " He chuckles a little.
My frown deepens. " Well they helped me before. "
Maybe that's because you technically are one of their own.
" I just don't see why they'd agree to give a wolf a way to allow her vampire beloved to walk during the
daytime. " He shuts me down.
" I'm only trying to help you. " I grumble.
He sighs. " Yes, I know that my darling. I'm grateful for it, truly, but I just don't want to get my hopes up
for something that has never happened and will never happen. "
" And what if it does happen? What if I can find a way to help make it happen? " I argue.
" Then I will be extremely appreciative, but until then..." He trails off.
Admittedly it was annoying me how negative he was being, sure he didn't know that his mate was half
witch, but I thought he might seem a little happier about me trying to find a solution for him. We lay
together, eventually Kai falls asleep, but I on the other hand can't shut my brain off long enough to even
keep my eyes closed.
Sliding out of bed quietly and carefully, I wander across the hall to Kai's room. I step inside his dark
colour schemed room, shutting the door gently behind me, trying my best to make little to no noise as I
start rummaging through his things. A voice inside the back of my mind was screaming at me to stop,
that I wouldn't be happy about this type of thing being done to me but I shove that voice away.
Scanning along the book shelves, I realise I won't find anything suitable for what I'm thinking there,
instead I go into his closet, flicking on the light. I smile when I notice a whole shelf filled with boxes,
pulling out one that has markings with 1920 on it. When my eyes fall on the stacks of photographs my
smile widens, picking up one to look at it closer.
Malakai is standing grinning at the camera, dressed in a smart, expensive looking suit with a waistcoat
and a bow tied at his neck, his hair is noticeably shorter despite the fedora covering it and sitting on his
feet are fancy dress shoes. Phoenix is in the onto the too, with a sly smile on his lips, he's wearing very
similar attire except instead of a bow around his neck there's a tie, he doesn't wear a hat, showing off
his hair which seems to be a normal colour, parted down the middle and slicked back but it's hard to tell
the colour in black and white. Right in the middle of them is Dahlia wearing a beautiful blue silk gown, a
long fur coat covers her, a pearl necklace hangs around her neck, a pair of white gloves cover her
hands and a cloche hat with a ribbon around it sits on her short curled hair.
Flipping the picture around there's writing scribbled on the back reading " London, England. June 3
1921. " I bite my lip as I place the picture back in its box, looking through the things in it I realise that
there's nothing in here I could use.
Stepping back, I scan the numbers scribbled on the boxes. Pulling out one with 1800 on it, I notice a
bunch of handwritten letters, but don't touch them, rooting around the box more until I find a little velvet
box. When I open it and see the silver signet ring with a crest on it a grin takes over my face, I quickly
place the ring back it the small box which I shove into my pocket before lifting the box of memories
back onto its place on the shelf.
