Chapter 50 Paper Company
Soon enough, Amanda specifically arranged for a public relations personnel to justify their action, who
explained, “Ladies and gentlemen, Daniel has been found guilty of dereliction of duty and tampering
with the business proposals from other companies. Only that from Cordrington Corporation and
Julianna Corporation were left untouched.”
“Oh? Do you mean you have no one to pick from, and that’s why Julianna Corporation was chosen?”
questioned one of the reporters in shock as a thought flashed across his mind there and then.
“Of course not. We’ve taken a liking to several points of the proposition submitted by Julianna
Corporation. But those are trade secrets, so I’m afraid we won’t be disclosing any of those here,”
answered that publicist with a smile.
Just as the publicist was elucidating the incident that had happened that day, Jared’s phone chimed.
He sneaked a peek at the caller ID, only to see his father’s name. In a haste, he picked up the call.
“Jared, I asked my friend to run a background check and found that Christopher has been selected
owing to that Dragon Valley land owned by his family. That piece of land seems to be rich with some
special metals. As for Daniel, the headquarters of Centurion Corporation has long wished to deal with
him. It’s just that we’ve gotten unlucky,” Harold said in a low voice and then heaved a sigh.
“D*mn it! And there I thought there were some trade secrets. So, Christopher just got lucky, huh? No
wonder they chose him, of all people. It’s all thanks to Centurion Corporation wanting to teach Daniel a
lesson. Sh*t! We may have just paved the way for Christopher!”
Flying off the handle, Jared shuddered on that note as he slammed his fist on the wall.
“Yes, it’s his lucky day. That piece of land, though, seems to have been put under Centurion
Corporation’s protection. You ought to come up with a plan to get your hands on its deed. That way, we
may have another shot at this,” instructed Harold softly.
“Understood, Dad. I’ve always had a knack for things like this.”
Jared couldn’t help but let out a snort. His countenance was once again inundated with the self-
confidence he had always had.
From his perspective, Christopher had relied on Lady Luck to appear victorious this time and that the
latter’s luck would soon run thin.
Needless to say, if Jared were to learn that Christopher was the chairman of Centurion Corporation, he
would’ve wished that he had never harbored that sort of thought.
As soon as Jared hung up the call, Fabian hastily probed him about the current situation. Jared told the
Murrays his father’s words. Listening to that, Fabian nearly popped a vein in rage. If only he hadn’t
schemed on Frank’s factory, he wouldn’t have lost this golden opportunity, and he would’ve been the
one to latch on to Centurion Corporation and make it big.
“I even thought Christopher has some kind of formidable background to know the secretary of the
chairman of Centurion Corporation. Pfft! Centurion Corporation sent Ms. Clark here to receive him only
because they already have their eyes on the land!”
Heaving a sigh of relief, Fabio presumed that the meet-up between Christopher and Amanda was
purely coincidental.
In Fabio’s mind, Christopher was merely a retired soldier, so he couldn’t have gotten acquainted with a
big shot like Amanda.
“Let’s go!”
Reluctant to linger around any longer, Jared summoned his private chauffeur over.
They hopped into the car and departed. Not long after, they stumbled across Christopher and his gang
hailing a taxi by the roadside. In truth, Julianna’s car had been blocked by the crowd, and they would
only give themselves away if they headed back to retrieve her car.
“Hmph! So what if he can land himself a contract? He still needs to hail a taxi! Ha!” scoffed Fabio,
wearing a disdainful countenance the whole time. NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
Jared stopped the chauffeur and said to Christopher, “Don’t think you’re in the clear even if you’ve
clung to Centurion Corporation. Have you somehow forgotten about your company’s measly capability?
Lady Luck simply smiled on you this time. Even without cutting the deal with Centurion Corporation,
Cordrington Corporation will not be affected at all. On top of that, I’ll make sure you all suffer a fate
worse than death. It’s about time you realize the huge gap between our strengths!”
Christopher secretly let out a sneer, for those words were exactly what he had been meaning to say to
Jared.
This is only the beginning. I’ll let that Jared taste the bitterness of offending me.
Of course, Christopher gave Jared the cold shoulder. After the trio hopped into the taxi, Frank wanted
to call his wife to share the good news but was stopped by Julianna. “Let’s surprise Mom later.”
The three of them soon arrived at Nirvana Residence. As they eventually reached the front door of their
house, they bumped into Cindy, who had also just come home. In a hurry, Julianna shouted, “Mom!
We’re back!”
Upon hearing her daughter’s voice, Cindy turned around, only to notice Christopher’s face at first
glance. A flare of anger erupted like a volcano within her in an instant.
“Honey, I have something to—” Before Frank could continue his sentence, Cindy fumed, “Shut up.”
After saying that, she turned to Christopher, pointing at him and chiding, “Christopher, you’re nothing
but a disgrace to the Murray family. Do you really think you’re that smart, proposing a business
collaboration like that? What does a retired soldier like you know about business? Why can’t you just
get a day job instead? How dare you register a paper company, and worst still, have wishful thinking
about striking a deal with Centurion Corporation? Tell me, then. Did you succeed?”
