Chapter 634
Chapter 634
“Cyn…” Jonathan was somewhat flustered. He had not anticipated Cynthia’s return on this particular day. Would Cyn
misunderstand? He had only allowed them in as a last resort…
“Yes. Busy?” Cynthia looked up and walked over with Shirley.
From their vantage point, they could not see into the living room.
“Not really. Mandy and the others said they had samme business with me. Considering the heavy snow outside, I allowed them. in to talk” Jonathan still did not know why Cynthia and Shirley had come.
Cynthia paused for a moment. The bodyguards had clearly said that their father initially tried to stop the women from entering. The bodyguards would not lie to her, so her father must have left out that detail after falling to prevent their entry.
“I see.” Cynthia nodded.
“You are not upset, are you?” Jonathan was inwardly anxious.
“I’m not upset, as long as they don’t stay for dinner or spend the night here,” Cynthia responded, before adding, “Dad.”
“Huh?” Jonathan was a little stunned. For some reason, it seemed like Cyn had matured considerably all of a sudden.
“You’re our father, when you speak to us, there’s no need…” Cynthia trailed off, choosing her words carefully before continuing, “To tread so lightly. You owe us nothing.”
She considered their perspective. If she had been in her parents‘ shoes at the time, she was not certain she could have done any better. Two families joined in matrimony; her mother was unable to resist her own father, and her father was equally helpless against his. Both had been in love with others but were bound together by circumstance and profit. Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.
In those days, parental authority was absolute, their decisions sacrosanct. Their resilience was impressive, even by modern standards. How many people who vow to stay single all their life actually manage to hold on to that promise? The pressure from family was many times greater than that from parents alone.
The fact that she and Shirley were able to grow up happy and sound was already a blessing.
“Cyn.” Jonathan’s expression grew more complex. Cynthia, after much consideration, offered him a comforting embrace, holding tightly to this ever–worried father of hers.
If only their mother were still here…
If she had devoted all her energy to studying medicine since childhood, could she have saved her mother from the clutches of death when even Yves was powerless? However, there was no turning back, and time would never stop or rewind for any event…
Jonathan stiffened at her touch, his eyes welling up.
“Cy.”
“Cynthia, I want a hug too!” Shirley, always the cheerful one, knew how to lighten the mood at the right moments.
“You little rascal Even competing for my affection now!” Jonathan chuckded, his love for his two daughters evident.
“My sister is mine. Her favorite person is also ine.” Shirley declared playfully, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Jonathan gently poked her forehead, diffusing the tension in the air. He then asked them to join him for a discussion. “Since you’re back, come join us. They just arrived and don’t know why they’re here yet.”
Cynthia did not want to go initially, whatever they were discussing was likely of little concern to her. However, Shirley. insisted, tugging at her hand. “Let’s go together!”
Mandy and Michelle grew tense when they saw Cynthia They could not help but shift uncomfortably in their seats.
