Mates But Enemies

Chapter 62: The Challenge

Chapter 62: The Challenge

Everywhere was calm and the people were going about their business with no worries. What were they

to be afraid if with them having a king like Adelaide and his princes beside him? But little did they know

that there was a looming danger coming their way.

The queen looked at the boy sleeping soundly on the bed with no sign of agitation and got up to leave.

When she walked through the corridor, she called a guard and whispered something into his ear and

he nodded with a smile on his face. A few minutes later, she stood in front of the three Luna's still the

stoutest among them yet beautiful. The three women watched her in amazement that even though they

had beauty and all they weren't as imposing as the queen. She read the thoughts of the two and smiled

but as much as she tried, she couldn't get through to Nadia.

“So she couldn't help but question,

Nadia, why can't I get through you? I am aware you are neither a human nor a werewolf but you could

be someone right?”

She smiled and said steadily,

I am sorry but I didn't know you couldn't read my mind. I am not of one nature anyway, I don't belong to

land or sea. I am just me.

The queen nodded silently looking at her and she wasn't the only one her sister and Tilda also watched

her disbelievingly. Mia had no idea as to what she was till then.

The queen then thought,

‘Since we don't know her nature, it's wise to be wary of her or should we just make friends with her?’

The two replied in their minds agreeing with her. She listened in their conversation and laughed at their

reaction. When they saw her laugh, they peeped at her questionable yet she wasn't ready to let them

know the reason.

The Queen then announced that, they had a game they played as Queen's to be if there were princes

with their Luna's. And it was cooking and hunting, sword fighting, fist fighting and sewing and the one

who won the most would be called the first Luna whether she becomes the queen or not. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.

She asked them if they were ready to take on the challenge and each of them nodded timidly, she then

knew that amongst the things aforementioned, each had their insecurities about them.

But she wasn't ready to allow that interrupt their game as she wasn't looking for a perfect Luna but one

that was ready to accept any challenge even if they haven't attempted it before. So she patted their

backs and asked them to follow her.

The competition was on as they started with sewing, everyone was engrossed with what they were

doing but they couldn't ignore the sounds coming from a particular person. So they looked at her and

saw that with every turn of the pin, it poked her over and over again and all she was doing was keep

going even with the little green liquid coming from her the tip of her finger with every poke. She would

say argee! and clean it up and go on, they watched her forgetting that it was time limited and they had

to go ahead with theirs.

Having pity on her, they had forgotten themselves.

Until the Queen announced that they had only 30 minutes to go, they looked at what they had in their

hands and looked at hers and thought that they were being foolish but still what she had was truly to be

pitied.

They went on to the next task which was hunting and cooking, and they had to hunt first then cook with

what they had hunted. They were led into the woods but Nadia and Mia opted for the river instead, the

soldiers looked at them pitifully and one of them said,

“I guess not being a werewolf has it's disadvantages, there has being no fish in that river for a few

years now. What do they intend to get from there? Now I know the winner of the challenge.”

He followed after the rest and left them to their fate. When they were left alone, they decided on which

part each would fish from. To make their decision valid, they thought of a way and recalled what they

did when they were young. When they wanted to share between two things either the same or different,

they would take to stones and choose between east and south as they stand and they would throw it at

the same time. The one whose stone went furtherest gets to choose first among the two. So it was

decided and did same choosing parts and Mia won with the throw as she always had.

She looked at her sister angrily and shouted at her,

“Nad, I thought we had outgrown this, why are you always making me win?”

But she only shook her head smiling and told her to choose fast and that they had little time. Mia

nodded and changed positions with her thinking that Nadia might have chosen the badest part of the

river considering her. But then Nadia only smiled and gave way to her.

A few minutes later, they saw that even if they waited for the whole day, they weren't going to get a tiny

fish. So they came together and thought of a way out and the only result was to use their powers.

So they opened their inner spirits to call out so fish to the river.

As they were doing that, they didn't go unnoticed, someone who had been looking for them finally

found them.
