Mated In Chaos: The Broken Mate

Chapter 46

Elara

‘Little Zuzu,’ her voice is as arrogant as ever. I hated it when she called me that. That was why I snapped when Elara called me Zuzu. However, I felt warmth run through my body when it comes Eloise’s mouth. I want her to call me again.

‘I miss you,’ I confess. I didn’t realize just how much I missed her.

‘Dad’s dead,’ she says nonchalantly. I’m stunned for a moment by her words.

‘How?’

‘Killed by our uncle Reuben a few months ago,’ Eloise sounds casual about it.

‘How are you?’ I ask.

‘Don’t act like you care about me. I want to warn you about Reuben. He wants the throne but can’t get it because the council won’t allow him, knowing you are alive,’ her words unsettle me.

‘I don’t want want the crown. You take it,’ I tell her. She scoffs,

‘They won’t let me because I’m a woman.’

‘Then fight for it. You’re the firstborn, and it’s the 21st century,’ If anyone could make a good leader for the empire, it was my sister. She has always been fierce and a great warrior, ‘Or let Uncle sit on me,’ I give her another option.

‘Uncle can’t sit on it. The bastard is far greedier than our father. He will continue raising havoc. He wants all the dragon empires under him, just like the old man did,’

I sigh. What was with that family and power? They are sick in the head.

‘What can I do to help?’

‘You need to abdicate the throne and appoint me as Queen. Then you can go to your merry little life,’ she snaps.

‘You said they found me,’ I tell her.

‘I intercepted the spy’s message before it could reach Reuben. However, there is a lurker for you. So, kill him. You can do that or have become weak with the wolves. You’re pathetic,’ I can picture her rolling her big violet eyes. I can’t help but smile. It had been too long since I smiled.

‘I have the guy,’ I inform her, looking at my computer.

‘And Reuben?’ I ask.

‘I’ll call you when I need you to come here. I should gather allies before the general council meeting in a few months,’ she tells me. In the next few months, I will abdicate my position and leave the empire behind me for good.

‘Thank you, Eloise,’

‘Stay alive,’ That’s all she says and ends the call. I feel like a heavy burden has been lifted off my chest.

Nevertheless, I’m in more danger from my uncle now. He will want to kill me before the general council meeting.

I was happy the rest of the day. I couldn’t wait to get home and see my husband.

Lou was already waiting for me in the parking lot when my classes ended. I smiled at him as I got in the car.

‘Good evening, Mrs Crawford,’

There… He did it again. There is something about being called Mrs Crawford that sends warmth to my body.

‘Good evening, Lou,’

I notice that as we drive. We don’t go to the penthouse. I narrow my gaze. I’m not too familiar with this area of the pack.

‘Lou, where are we going?’ I ask.

‘The boss asked me to take you to his location for your date night,’ he answers. My heart almost leaps from my chest. Date night! Zuriel granted my request!

‘Date? I need to change my clothes, Lou,’

The butler only nods and does a U-turn abruptly. A yelp almost leaves my lips.

‘Lou!’

‘I’m sorry, my lady. I’ll take you home to change into new clothes,’ he says.

‘I hope Zuriel doesn’t get mad at us, especially you for not following his orders,’

‘You are my boss, too,’ he informs me with a polite smile.

Lou drives fast to the penthouse building. I get out of the car and rush to the apartment. When I enter, River is there, pressing on her phone, but I don’t acknowledge her.

‘Miel!’ I call softly, and the girl comes rushing from the kitchen. I smile.

‘Can you help me get ready?’ I ask. She looks eager to know where I’m going but doesn’t ask.

‘I’m going on a date with my husband,’ I tell her. An ear-splitting grin forms on her face.

‘Yes, I’ll help you,’ she squeals.

‘Hello!’ River comes over to us. I don’t smile at her.

‘You and my boyfriend are going on a date?’ she looks sad. However, I’m not falling for her trick. Zuriel can, but not me.

I snort and cross my arms against my chest, ‘He is not your boyfriend, let’s start there,’

She takes a step back, like a scared little cat. Tears dance in her eyes,

‘Zuriel is my husband. We were wed in the eyes of everyone. And yes, we are going out on a date. He asked me out on a date,’

I did lie on that last part, but who cares? River glares at me, her eyes flashing red with anger. Red?
