Marrying my high school bully

It’s not what you think

Lorraine

He hesitated, his breathing ragged as his eyes narrowed towards my parted lips. Slowly, he lowered his head with his eyes closed.

My pulse raced as I anticipated his lips on mine. Nothing mattered right now as I just wanted to do something that would distract me from my pain. I shut my eyes as well, licking my lower lips as I craned my neck to meet him.

Our lips barely touched, then he retracted his neck and whispered. “No.”

My eyes fluttered open as I gaped at him in surprise. “Why aren’t you kissing me?” I asked, a bit offended at his subtle refusal to do what I wanted.

“Because you don’t really want it.” He replied in a clipped tone.

Anger shot through me as I glared at him. “And what makes you think that you know what I want? I want you and your eyes are blazing with need for me. You can’t hide it, Bumpy, so let’s just enjoy this short moment and be done with it.” I flared, frustrated at the calm manner at which he stared at me.

“Dexter came here today, did you know that?” He began and slumped on the cream plush couch.

I shrugged, throwing a nonchalant look at him. “You said that over the phone, why are you telling me about it again?”

He inhaled, lowering his head as he scratched his palm. When he lifted his face again, the flames of desire were gone, replaced with a mask of seriousness.

“You came crying to my house and the only thing you could ask me for was a kiss. Am I that easy to you? You want me because Dexter might have done something to hurt you, and you’re obviously searching for a way to numb the pain.” He pointed out, adding to the pile of guilt that gnawed in my heart.

He was right about everything. I knew that I’d been pushing Dexter away, but I didn’t know that I’d get hurt seeing him move on so quickly. The sight of the stripper grinding him made me want to puke, and then I realised that I still loved him.

It was too early to stop loving him, and I wanted him to feel the same. I sent his calls to voicemail because I thought I could get through with my plans. We’ll, the jokes are on me because I was failing-failing woefully.

“I’m sorry, Bumpy. I didn’t know what came over me.” I began to cry, my emotions overwhelming me. “A lot of things have happened lately and it’s messing with my mind. Dexter doesn’t deserve me. I’ve failed him.” I lamented.

He advanced towards me, wrapping me up in a warm embrace. I let the tears flow freely as we stayed in silence, allowing the quietness to console me.

When I felt better, he placed a kiss on my forehead. “You have to let it all out, Lorraine. Keeping it in will only burden you and increase your pain.” He said softly.

“You’re right,” I sniffed and walked to the couch he’d gotten up from. “I’ll tell you all about it, but can I get a glass of water first?”

“Sure.” He went to the kitchen while I leaned on the backrest, the heart-wrenching sight from the club replaying in my head.

He came back with a glass of water which I downed immediately. I dropped the cup aside and took a deep breath before telling my story. The look of surprise that came on his face after I finished my narration couldn’t be explained.

“You’re saying that your reproductive organs have been tampered with?” He rasped in disbelief.

I nodded, unable to form words with my mouth. “That’s why I don’t want to be with Dexter. He has always told me that he wants to have children with me, but that is looking impossible right now.”

He shook his head vehemently. “Don’t say that, Lorraine. I’m very sure the situation can be salvaged. Did Dexter even tell you that he didn’t want you anymore?”

“No, he didn’t. He told me that we can find a way around it.”

“Then why aren’t you taking his word for it?” His voice rose to a higher degree.

I kept asking myself the same question then I came to the conclusion that I was scared, and perfect love casts away every fear. I just couldn’t help but think of how tired he’d be after staying without kids for years.

“He’ll want children some day-one from his loins, and I can’t provide him with that.” I confessed. “I lost my baby during an accident after I caught my ex cheating on me, and it hurt me so badly because I’ve always wanted to have a child who came from my womb. But after meeting Dexter, I consoled myself with the fact that we could still make babies. Now that dream has been squashed. What do you expect me to do?” I shut my eyes and blinked back the fresh hot tears that threatened to spill.NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.

He reached for my hands and held them. “If the heartbroken and desperate man I saw this morning is the same person you’re talking about, then you’re in good hands. Have a heart-to-heart discussion with him and the both of you should reach an agreement when you see him. Everything will work out fine.” He assured me.

Strangely, spending some time with Bumpy had helped me to see things from a clearer point of view.

“Thank you so much. I’m glad I came here.”

“Any time, girl. But you’ll have to return to your house.” He said and when I furrowed my brows in disappointment, he added. “Don’t worry, I’ll drive you back.” He offered, snatched his keys from the side table then we stepped out.

Stella called me, pleading that I come back home so we could talk about whatever happened. I sensed how uneasy she was, but she wasn’t ready to say anything until I got home.

The drive was smooth, the journey shorter than it had first been when I came to the house. The car rolled to Stella’s condo, then I unhooked my seat belt and hopped out.

He did the same as well as I shot him a puzzled look.

“Thank you for the ride, but you don’t have to go in with me. I can take it from here.” I tried to ward him off.

“I want to know where you leave and you aren’t changing my mind about that.” He replied stubbornly so I let him have his way.

We took the elevator and relief washed over me when I stopped at Stella’s apartment. I didn’t bother knocking so I barged in and met the last person I expected to see.

His lips stretched into a very wide smile as he approached me, then it twisted into a scowl when his eyes darted to Bumpy who was behind me.

“I thought you said that you didn’t know where she was. How is it possible that the both of you are together by this time of the night?” He seethed, jealousy ringing hard in his tone.

Seeing how heated he was, I knew that I’d have to step in. “Dexter, relax, please. It’s not what you think.” I pleaded, closing the distance between us.

He retreated and shook his head. “I don’t know what to think anymore.” He stormed out of Stella’s apartment without sparing me a backward glance while I stood still, contemplating on chasing after him or staying back.
