Marrying my high school bully

Her stepfather

“These dresses are so beautiful.” Stella cooed, as she accompanied me to the dress store.

Several beautiful wedding dresses caught my attention, their designs appealing and mind blowing, making me wish I could try all of them.

I would have been more happy if Victoria was around to shop with me. She had a good sense of fashion, and with just one look, she’ll make the perfect choice for me.

“Yes, they are very beautiful. I can’t wait to find the right one.” I agreed, blushing as we trotted further into the store.

An attendant walked towards us with a charming bright smile that I couldn’t help but return. “Good morning. I’m here to shop for a dress.” I announced with more enthusiasm needed than usual.

She clapped her hands eagerly. “Well, you’re in the right place because over here, there are hundreds of beautiful dresses you can pick from at affordable prices. And if you want, I can help you choose what suits you then we’ll start with the fitting.” She offered.

“Cool.” I glanced at Stella who was staring at a dress with a melancholic expression. “Let’s begin the search for the perfect dress!”

We glanced through each section, housing different types of dresses ranging from: ball, mermaid, trumpet, tea length, basque and even short dresses.

Some of the designs were nice but none of them caught my fancy until we went into the inner section. She didn’t complain at how picky I was, because she knew that I was capable of paying any amount.

Earlier at the hotel, Dexter had transferred about a million dollars to my account, which almost caused me to swoon because I’d never gotten such money in my life. That was the exact amount he baited me with.

I could easily pay him back his debts and I’ll still be left with some tangible money, I realised.

I made a cursory glance at the dress and gaped at the creativity behind it. The dress was everything I wanted and more.

“Do you like it?” The attendant asked when she saw how gobsmacked I was.

“Of course, I do.” My eyes lingered on the color progression and my lips went agape.

The skirt of the dress was shorter and the back had a gathered train. The fabric had a very smooth texture which could be likened to silk, and the eye catching part was the subtle progression of the color.

It had an ombre effect with the train of the dress being white, then onto the next level, it descended to a subtle grayish hue that would stop at my knee, matching the color of my eyes.

The bodice had a subdued light gray full beaded fabric, with silver threads.

“I want this.” I screamed and pointed at the dress, unable to hold back my excitement.

“Are you sure about that?” The rep asked and I nodded vehemently.

“I’ve never been more sure of anything in my life. This is a dress made from heaven. I love it so much.” I exclaimed. “I’m going to look like a fairy queen on my wedding day.” I chirped, running my fingers through the velvety texture of my wedding dress.

The attendant removed it from the hanger it was hung in so I could try it. Since I’d be buying it, they had to make sure that it fit me properly.

I stepped into the dress, wishing that Dexter and I had chosen a closer date. I couldn’t wait to look like a real bride. It was a dream come true for me.

The high neckline fit me properly aside from the seams of my sides which felt a bit loose. Apart from that, every other thing was perfect.Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Stella gasped behind me, her eyes widening with surprise as she gaped at me. “This dress looks like it was made for you from the beginning. Dexter will swoon when he sees you on it.” She commented, her voice bearing a happy tone.

I giggled like a kid who was given her favorite candy. “I know, right.” Then I turned to the attendant. “I’d like to pay for the dress, so when can I come for my next fitting?”

“By next week. The seamstress has a lot of orders that need to be cleared so that she can attend to you. But since there aren’t many amendments to be done, your dress will be ready on the same day.”

I flung my hands to the air. “Yay!” I exclaimed, grinning from ear to ear. “Thank you for your promptness.”

We went to the counter and I was more than eager to pay for the dress even though it was more expensive than I expected. I didn’t mind paying over five hundred thousand dollars for it, because I knew I deserved it.

Being with Dexter has taught me not to withhold good things from myself just because I thought it was too extravagant. This life is too short not to be happy, and no one would take their money to the grave.

If I wanted to be acknowledged as the wife of a billionaire, then I had to act and look like one.

“Thank you.” I said after collecting the receipt and strolling out of the store with Stella.

“I’m hungry,” She moaned, clutching onto her stomach while I rolled my eyes. “We’d have to stop over and get something to eat, otherwise I’ll slump in your car.” She whined like a baby.

Drake, who was waiting patiently at the bonnet of the car, collected the shopping bag which held some other nice dresses we bought from me and put it inside the boot.

“It seems that your mission was accomplished. Your face is glowing.” He said and I nodded with a smile, then he opened the car door for me to enter.

I enjoyed the indulgence as I put on my seat belt and he began to drive. “We are hungry so we’ll stop over at a restaurant.” I informed him.

“That’s fine.”

Having nothing else to say, I picked up my phone and began to send texts to Dexter. He replied almost immediately as if he had been waiting for my message all morning.

‘Got the dress.’ I sent to him.

‘Do you like it?’ I asked and my heart melted at his concern. ‘I know you’d look dashing in it. I can’t wait.’ He replied.

I could sense the excitement from his texts and I couldn’t stop myself from giggling so loudly.

The happy thrills were cut short when the car pulled to an abrupt halt. I tore my eyes away from my phone as I glanced at Drake whose eyes had darkened as he tried to make a reverse.

“What’s going on?” I asked, my throat running dry.

“Shit!” My fear increased, a rush of adrenaline surging through my veins. “We’re being followed. Get your heads down.” He ordered and I obeyed without uttering a word.

“Are we going to die?” Stella asked, her voice shaky with fear.

I didn’t know what to say as I quickly sent Dexter a message informing him of our situation.

“What’s going on?” I inquired again, my voice sounding muffled with my head tucked between my thighs.

I dared not raise my head as a gunshot resonated in the air, bursting through Drake’s window. I managed to spare a peek at him and I found blood, gushing out from his left arm.

My heart split into two as I gripped my bag tightly. Dexter’s message came in, saying that he’d send some people to me but I didn’t know how fast it would be.

Several questions lined up in my head but I’d ask them when we escaped the shoot out. I wondered why we didn’t follow another route since this one was quite lonely, with few vehicles driving along it.

“Your arm is injured Drake, what are we going to do? Who’s even following us?” I yelled in frustration.

He dodged another bullet that shattered my window, the glasses flying around with some of the shards grazing my bare skin. “Fuck! I need to get the both of you out of here.”

“Tell me, Drake! Who’s the bastard?”

“You wouldn’t like to know.” He growled.

“I want to.” I screamed.

He did a quick swerve and I almost lost my balance, then I didn’t hear any more shooting, just uneven breathing from behind me. Then I remembered that Stella was in the car with us.

“It’s your stepfather.” He muttered and I felt blood drain from me, my mouth becoming bland.
