Love At The Wrong Table

Chapter 1999

Xander’s face turned ashen, and his lips trembled uncontrollably, struggling

to utter a single coherent sentence for what felt like an eternity.

“Mr. Lowe, L. We were wrong! We were all instigated!”

“Please, spare us! We swear, from now on, we’ll serve you faithfully–just like

the Fletcher and Toma families! We’ll be as loyal as your dogs!” His pitiful

words sparked fury in the Toma and Fletcher families, who clenched their

teeth in indignation.

But Emmanuel, unfazed, let out a cold, mocking laugh.

“Jenson, you’re mistaken. The Fletcher and Toma families are no longer just

allies; they’re my brothers, my friends. Your family, on the other hand, doesn’t

even deserve to be called my dogs.”

“Wha-* Jenson’s face flushed with a mix of embarrassment and fear.

Meanwhile, Denis and Jake, standing beside Emmanuel, felt tears welling up

danger, had not been in vain,

From this moment on, they vowed to follow Emmanuel into any batts, no

matter the cost.

“Emmanuel, I beg of you, show us mercy!

Even Deangelo, once so proud, knelt, his voice full of desperation.

“We know we can’t compare to the Fletcher or Toma families. We only ask for

our lives! If you trust us, we’ll serve you with every fiber of our being if you

don’t, we’ll retreat to the countryside, never setting foot in the city again!

Suddenly, a thunderous roar echoed through the air, like the cry of a dragon,

sending a wave of terror through the Quill family.

With a swift motion, Emmanuel seized the Bone–Crushing Knife from the

ground, a cold smile playing on his lips.

“What a fine blade,” he remarked, his voice icy. “Perfect for reducing tyrants to

Xander’s already pale face turned even more ashen. His sweat was pouring

down as he knelt, trembling.

“It seems you’ve had this plan for some time now,” Emmanuel continued, his

voice rising with anger. “You intended to kill me–dismember me, even. And

now you dare to plead for mercy?!”

Emmanuel’s shout thundered across the air.

Unable to bear the suffocating presence of death any longer, Kelly and the

other women of the Quill family collapsed, overwhelmed by their terror.

“Larry, you… You must plead for us! Hurry!”

Owen, still kneeling, shouted toward Larry. “Emmanuel should have some

respect for you.”

However, Larry turned away.

Just moments ago, he and his wife had pleaded for Rosalynn, only to be met

with scorn and disdain. How could they now have the audacity to ask

Emmanuel for mercy?

Yet, Gina faced Emmanuel and spoke up. “Emmanuel, some of the women

from the Quill family have not been involved in any wrongdoing. Please,

spare them!*

Emmanuel glanced at her, slowly nodding his head.

Xander, hoping for a glimmer of hope, crawled toward her. “Gina, quickly! You

must continue to plead for us! We don’t want to die!”

But Gina pointed at him, her voice laced with fury. “Uncle Xavier, I will never

plead for you. You sent people to partake in the Quillen family massacre. Now you wish to take the lead in killing Emmanuel? Your methods are brutal! You

deserve to die!”

Upon hearing this, Emmanuel’s killing intent surged uncontrollably as he advanced toward Xander, step by step. “Don’t think I am unaware. My

Xander’s face turned pals, devoid of any blood. He kept retreating on the

ground, panic–stricken.

He had envisioned such a moment, but he had only imagined their roles

reversed.

“I will avenge my mother!!”

With a powerful shout, Emmanuel raised the Bone–Crushing Knife, plunging it

mercilessly into Xander’s thigh.

“Ah-”

Xander let out a heart–wrenching scream that pierced the hearts of

everyone present, leaving them shaken to their core.

Emmanuel lifted his hand again, followed by the third strike and the fourth

strike,

With each slash, Xavier’s limbs shattered, and only on the fifth blow did he

grant him release from life. The sixth strike crushed his skull, splattering blood

across the ground.

The arena fell into a profound silence, not a single breath could be heard.

Every member of the Quill family trembled in fear, their throats dry and raspy.

“Mom, I have avenged you! And the others involved in the Quillen family

massacre, not one will escape my wrath!”

Emmanuel tossed the knife aside and declared loudly, “Sage!”

“I’m here!”

“Except for Deangelo and his wife, as well as a few women… Send the rest of

the Quill family on their way. As for the others involved in today’s events from

Eldoria, arrest them all and deal with them as you see fit.”

“Understood, Commander!*

Sage took his orders and set off to carry them out, while Emmanuel

supported Rosalynn in tending to her injuries.

Roselynn gazed at her younger brother with a sense of unfamiliarity. Was this

the same clumsy, straightforward guy she once knew? How had he

transformed into someone who radiated such confidence and authority?

Emmanuel sat with her at the Quill Residence, carefully tending to her injuries

while listening to her recount stories. Their quiet conversation was interrupted

by a video call from Mackenzie.

The moment Mackenzie found out that Roselynn was out of danger, she

exhaled a deep sigh of relief, her emotions almost overwhelming her to the

point of tears.

“Hey, Mackenzie, why do you seem so fragile now?” Roselynn teased, a playful

glint in her eyes. “This isn’t the you I remember. Did motherhood make you

softer?”

With a gentle smile, Mackenzie replied, “Yes, I suppose it did. Back then, I

#

pretended to be cold and distant because I hadn’t truly experienced life and

death. Looking back on it now, it feels a little silly.”

As the conversation drifted, a touch of melancholy crossed Mackenzie’s face.

“Now, after seeing the people around me leave, one after another, I’ve come

to understand how precious our relationships are. Emmanuel and I can’t

afford to lose anyone else.”

Roselynn, her emotions stirred by Mackenzie’s words, felt a lump form in her

throat as her eyes glistened with unshed tears. “Yes, those of us who remain

must cherish the time we have together.”

Emmanuel, sensing the mood, gently patted his sister on the shoulder.

“Roselynn, Mackenzie, let’s not dwell on sadness. I promise that I’ll protect

every one of our loved ones with my life. Besides,” he added with a soft smile,

“we aren’t just losing people; we’re also welcoming new life, aren’t we?”

At the mention of new life, Mackenzie caught on immediately. She called for

Lexi to help bring the baby, then carefully cradled the infant in her arms

before holding him up to the camera.

“Wow, he’s so adorable!” Roselynn’s face lit up as her maternal instincts

kicked in, unable to contain her excitement. “Honestly! I’m not just saying this

to flatter you. I’ve never seen such a cute baby before! Look at that plump

little face, all rosy and glowing. He’s precious!”

Emmanuel and Mackenzie, already proud parents, couldn’t help but feel a

surge of pride as Roselynn fawned over their child, reaffirming their belief in

their baby’s charm.

“Mackenzie, you’ve been through so much.” Emmanuel’s voice softened with

concern. “Not only are you managing the family business and overseeing the

Nuthana Chamber of Commerce, but you’re also taking care of the baby.

Please make sure you’re looking after yourself too.”

“Don’t worry,” Mackenzie reassured him with a warm smile. “I’ve got plenty of

help around me.”

“Oh? Plenty of help?” Emmanuel asked, his curiosity piqued.

“Of course. Since Gautier insists on proving himself in front of me, fm centsmy

going to make use of his talents. He’s someone I can keep a close eye on, but

I’ll admit, he’s incredibly capable…” Mackenzie poused before continuing “And

Beatrix has grown into her role, Grandpa has been bold, promoting several

promising young talents. Most importantly, Claudette is back with a team of

her own. With her leadership, our development is only going to grow

stronger.”

Emmanuel nodded in agreement, comforted by Mackenzie’s words. He knew

her well enough to recognize that she was downplaying her contributions,

even though she must have been doing significant work behind the scenes

to ensure both Yeringham and their family’s prosperity.

Emmanuel nodded thoughtfully, his eyes softening as he listened to

Mackenzie. He knew his wife too well–she was always modest about her own

achievements, often downplaying her vital role in the family’s success. Yet,

he did not doubt that the prosperity of both Yeringham and Nuthana was

secured, largely due to her quiet but powerful influence.

His thoughts turned to Claudette, a tinge of concern crossing his face. “Since

she’s come back to Yeringham, has she remembered anything from her

past?”

Mackenzie’s expression grew more serious as she shook her head,

disappointment clouding her features. “No, strangely enough, her memories

remain elusive. It’s odd–she remembers everything except the people and

events that matter. Her skills, though, even the most complex academic

concepts, are still intact.”

Emmanuel nodded slowly, understanding. It wasn’t uncommon for those with

amnesia to lose their memories while retaining their abilities and knowledge.

In some ways, he mused, perhaps this was a blessing in disguise. Her past

might remain forgotten, but at least she was still herself in all the ways that

mattered.

Yet, beneath his calm exterior, Emmanuel felt a conflict stirring. He was

acutely aware of his feelings for Mackenzie and knew deep down that no

other woman could ever take her place in his heart. Still, the thought of Claudette regaining her memories troubled him. If that happened, would Mackenzie feel compelled to step aside? He wasn’t sure how he would

handle such a delicate situation, the weight of it pressing against his mind.

He longed to make amends to Claudette, but he knew that love wasn’t the

only way to do so. He could protect her, not as a lover, but as a dear friend

That kind of bond could be enough–a way to express his gratitude without

complicating their lives further.

Just as these thoughts settled within him, Mackenzie’s voice broke through.

“By the way, Emmanuel, I’ve been thinking about our next steps.”

The light banter had passed, and Mackenzie’s tone became more serious as

she finally broached the heart of the matter, her sharp ga
