Chapter 679: Jared is a Hindrance, Deal with Him
Shonna pouted and scoffed, "It was just for convenience that I and Griffin have met only a few times. It was originally his uncle and my father who arranged our marriage. Since we were bound to be joined in marriage sooner or later, we might as well be with someone familiar. That was the agreement we reached. Besides, Griffin used to like that Lily Ward and even wanted to call off our engagement, but his elder brother stopped him."
Velma, ever the gossip, asked, "How do you know it was his brother who stopped him and not that he wanted to himself?"
"He was completely smitten with Lily Ward at the time; how could it have been his own will? Moreover, he told me himself that Jasper persuaded him to hold on for the sake of the Reed family and that he would naturally call off our engagement later."
"Pah, I never thought Jasper was so persuasive before. Now his brother is in a vegetative state, and yet there's no talk of calling off the engagement. When did he say that?"
Outside the door, Janson happened to pass by and overheard Shonna and the others. His expression grew even darker.
He didn't knock on the door but went to find Tina.
"Miss, the warehouse has now been unsealed, but they still took two robots from each of our three warehouses for sample investigation."
Tina was aware of this.
"Hmm, let them take samples. I believe that's exactly their main purpose."All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
"But miss, while I was asking questions, I managed to have the people from the X Bureau show me the serial numbers of the robots involved in the incident. Those were all defective robots that should have been destroyed long ago. There must be a mole inside our organization, I suspect..."
"Focus on your duties first; I am aware of it."
Hearing Tina's words, Janson felt reassured.
"Alright, then I'll just follow your arrangements. By the way, miss, do you need help with Griffin's matter? I also have some influence in Alderanth; perhaps I can find him."
"No need, someone has already gone to look for him."
Tina smiled faintly, her smile laden with meaning.
Somewhere in Ashbury, Boris was sitting in a chair, quietly watching the scenery outside the window.
This was Pace family territory, where no one would dare to intrude, not even Tina or Jared.
Soon after, a man in a dark suit entered, holding a bottle of fine wine.
"Mr. Pace."
Boris still tilted his head, glancing at the man across from him, and let out a scoff.
"What? Is Five Poisons still so cowardly that she dares not show up in our Pace family's place? Coward."
The man was not annoyed but slowly opened the red wine, poured it into a decanter, and said with a smile, "She's a married woman now, naturally, she can't come out alone to meet Mr. Pace." Boris laughed again, "You guys at RST really know how to play. Which number are you?"
"Mr. Pace, I am not yet married."
The man still maintained a refined smile, gazing steadily at Boris.
But Boris, for some reason, felt a strange sense of oppression that made him shiver.
Boris slowly turned his head, straightened up in his chair, but still kept his composure, "Speak then, what do you want?"
The man's smile deepened, "We know what you most want is to rescue Miss Rachel from Tina's clutches. We have already found out Rachel's whereabouts."
Upon hearing Rachel's name, Boris's eyes lit up, "You found Rachel? Where is she? Is she doing well? Has Tina been troubling her?"

The man absentmindedly sliced the steak on his plate, each cut seeming to pass through Boris's heart. Boris, unable to hide his impatience, grabbed the man's wrist. "I'm talking to you, can't you hear?"
he demanded.
The man looked up, his palm flipping to thrust the knife towards Boris's hand! Fortunately, Boris reacted quickly and pulled his hand away just in time to avoid injury.
Boris stared at the man in horror, but the man calmly placed a piece of steak into his mouth and said, "Mr. Pace, I hope you understand that we are in a partnership; we are not at your service!"
Boris swallowed nervously and squeezed his hand, asking tentatively, "Where is Rachel?"
The man chuckled and elegantly wiped his mouth with a napkin.
"Jared has been a bit of a nuisance lately. If you could take care of him for us, I might be able to tell you where Rachel is. What do you say?"
Boris frowned.
"If Jared were so easy to deal with, wouldn't you have handled him by now?"
The man shook his finger.
"You managed to get Grace into the X Bureau; Jared should be simple for you. As for how, here's a hint-" Boris's gaze intensified as the man continued, "Didn't Jared just visit Leo recently, even bringing some supplements?" As the man slowly walked away, Boris's mind was in turmoil. After all, that was his own father.
Clutching his hand, Boris was unsure of what to do next.

Outside, the man got into his car and dialed the Five Poisons' number.
"Yes, but I don't think he has the guts."
They wanted him to poison his own biological father, something he naturally lacked the courage to do. Moreover, Boris was essentially useless, a blusterer without real guts. If he had the courage to cast aside all concerns, he wouldn't be stuck just surviving by his father's side.
The Five Poisons laughed.
"A useless person becomes even more capable in such moments."
Usually, to prove themselves, the useless challenge what they fear the most.
And Boris, the epitome of uselessness, feared his father most, that towering figure.
After hearing this, the man couldn't help but laugh.
"Then I'll just fan the flames."
At the Pace family home, Boris walked through the door. Leo was sitting in the living room, his expression dark as he watched Boris enter.
"Father, it's late, why haven't you gone to rest? What's wrong?"
Boris asked, feeling guilty and unsure how to face Leo.
Leo stood up and slowly approached Boris, slapping him across the face. Despite being nearly a hundred years old, Leo's strength had not diminished.
Boris fell to the ground, incredulous at his father's action. Leo pointed at Boris's nose and scolded, "All these years, you've really been abusing my name to throw your weight around outside!"
"Father, what are you talking about? I don't understand," Boris stammered, stepping back, his heart sinking.
Over the years, Boris had leveraged Leo's reputation to gather wealth, snatch projects, and take advantages he didn't deserve. He knew he lacked the abilities of his brothers and that his future would be bleak without his father's influence. Better to stuff his pockets while he was young and secure a gleaming future.
