CHAPTER LXXXIV

SOPHIA STARED AT she and Chase’s intertwined fingers with a smile as she laid on his chest while his back was on bed after another mind-blowing sex in his bedroom from the study. His cock was still inside her and none of them made an attempt to move away.
Chase’s fingers that were drawing small circles on her back halted before he continued again. “What are you thinking of?”
Sophia managed to look up at him, and her smile widened. “Has anyone ever told you that your fingers are beautiful?”
Chase smiled. “You have,” He leaned in and pecked her nose. “A lot of times,”
Sophia placed her head back on his chest and dropped a peck on the skin. “I love you,”
Chase went still, unable to say a word again.
Sophia looked up at him with a smile again. “I love you,”
He rasped out. “Gattina,”
{“Kitten”}
“Don’t stop me, please,” She dropped her eyes and dragged her nose on his chest slightly. “Don’t stop me from telling you how I feel,”
“Sophia, you-,” He was cut in by the sound of his phone ringing on the bedside table. A groan left his lips, and he stretched his hands to pick up the call.
A frown marred his features when he stared at the caller ID.
De Luca.
Sophia gently ran her fingers at his sides. “Is everything okay?”
Chase nodded and placed both of his hands around her arms before slowly picking her up. He gently dropped her on the bed. “Excuse me,” He sat up and swiped the pick button. “De Luca,”
De Luca’s panicked voice reached his ears. “Don, please help me. It’s Saige,”
Chase sighed and rubbed his forehead with his palms. “What the fuck is wrong with her?”
De Luca replied immediately. “She -she tried to kill herself. She slit her wrist,”
“Fuck,” Chase muttered. “Where are you?”
“We’re at the hospital. I rushed her to the hospital and I’m scared. I can’t lose my daughter, Don. She’s my life,”
“What hospital?” Chase asked with a sigh.
“Gemelli Polyclinic,”
He shouldn’t care. He wasn’t meant to care. Sophia was the reason he suddenly started caring for everyone around him. His care was only meant to be for her, but he was extending it out to others.
Chase pushed back his hair. “I’ll be there shortly. Don’t panic, De Luca. She’ll be okay,” He cut the call.
Before he could stand up, Sophia placed her hand on his shoulder. “Who was on the call?”
“De Luca, Saige’s dad,” Chase sighed. “She tried to kill herself today,”
Sophia gasped. “W- what?”
“You heard me. I have to leave,” He tried to stand up.
Sophia clung to him. “Please don’t go. She’ll be okay. You don’t have to be there,”
Chase pulled her hand away from him and passed her a small smile. “She’s all her dad has. He needs someone to be there for them both, and me being her fiance, have to be the one because I respect De Luca like my father,” He then stood up and cupped her cheeks. “Be a good girl for me and take care of yourself. I’ll be home before you realize it, mm?”
Sophia blinked back her tears, her hands holding his wrist as she pouted her lips. “Promise?”
“I promise,” He stole a short kiss and walked to his closet. This text is property of Nô/velD/rama.Org.
Sophia lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling, pain tugging at her heart that the man she loved was going to be there for another woman.
Did he love Saige? Was that why he hadn’t told her he loved her back?
No. She shook her head and swallowed a huge lump of saliva. Chase wouldn’t love Saige and still seek satisfaction from her, another woman, right?

Chase nodded at De Luca once he reached the panicked man. “Is she okay? What did the doctor say?”
“He’ll be here shortly,”
“Greetings, Don,” the doctor greeted as he walked out of the room Saige was admitted in. “Greetings, De Luca,”
“How’s she doing?” DE Luca asked. “Is my daughter alright?”
The doctor nodded. “Her condition is stable, and she’ll be awake any moment from now, but there’s something I’d like to know regarding the patient,”
Chase frowned. “Is there any problem?”
“No. No. No,” the doctor shook his head. “I just wanted to know if she’s suffering from any mental instability or any sickness regarding the mental health that guarantees she takes anti-depressants,”
“What the fuck do you mean?” Chase growled. “Stop beating around the bush,”
The doctor heaved a sigh. “An overdose of anti-depressants was found in her blood,”
Chase turned to De Luca. “Has she been taking drugs?”
“No. No,” De Luca replied and turned to the doctor, fear evident in his eyes. “What do you mean by that? My daughter has no mental sickness. She’s mentally alright,”
Chase stared at the doctor. “Is that all you have to say? Do you have anything else to say?”
“No,” He replied. “I was only informing you about it. The drugs could lead to something fatal when taken too much. You should be careful,”
“Go,” Chase nodded at the doctor.
The doctor nodded and left.
Immediately, Chase turned to De Luca. “I fucking told you to make her see a therapist. Do you think fucking anti-depressants would help? It would only worsen her situation. Now look where your daughter is! That explains why she tried to kill herself. She even went ahead and took an overdose!”
“I promise it’s not like that, Don,” De Luca said. “I didn’t know about it. I thought she was seeing a therapist. She told me she was seeing one and I didn’t want to meddle in her affairs,”
“That’s what almost cost you her fucking life, De Luca!” Chase snapped. “I respect you, De Luca,” Chase raised his forefinger and pointed it at him with an angry scowl on his face. “Once your daughter regains consciousness, make sure you drill it in her brain that she should fix herself up before thinking of getting married to me, else, I’m breaking off the engagement,”
With that, he was gone.
De Luca dejectedly opened Saige’s room and walked in, watching her sleeping form.
He sat on the stool beside her bed, and a tear fell down his cheek as he stared at her paled face. “What have you turned yourself into, my daughter? Do you think your mum would be happy seeing you like this? Your mum wouldn’t be proud to have an obsessive and insecure daughter,” He shook his head and wiped the tear that had fallen down his cheek with his handkerchief. “Where did I go wrong in my training, Saige? I’ve always tried to make time for you. You never lacked anything whenever it came to love, so why can’t you understand Chase? He must not love you to take care of you and cherish you. What you feel for him isn’t love. You’re crazily obsessed, and you think Sophia Bennett is going to snatch him away from you. Your obsession won’t take you anywhere. It would only snatch him away from you,”
As if she could hear her dad’s words, Saige’s lips parted, and she whispered out. “No. No. Chase can’t leave me,”
De Luca cupped her cold cheeks on realizing that she was still unconscious. “All will be well, my child. All will be well,”
Saige’s eyelids fluttered open, and she groaned at the headache coming in before her eyes fell on her dad. She darted her eyes across the whole room and then looked back at De Luca before she let out dryly. “Where’s he?”
De Luca smiled at her and shook his head. “He left,”
Saige tried to sit down, but De Luca was quick to stop her. “He came?” A smile formed on her lips. “Does that mean he cares? Does that mean he loves me back? He loves me, right, dad?”
“Someone must not love you to care about you, sweetheart,” Her dad caressed her hair. “I’m sorry, Saige, he doesn’t love you,”
That seemed to snatch away her smile. “It’s not true,” She tried to sit up. “It’s a lie. He-he loves me. If he didn’t love me, he wouldn’t come for me,”
“You’re mistaken,” De Luca shook his head at her. “He was very upset. Anti-depressants were found in your blood. You told me you were seeing a therapist, Saige. You lied,”
“Dad, I-,” She pulled off the IV drop from her wrists and stood up on her feet, ignoring the ache all over her body. “Dad, I need to see him. I have to talk to him. He has to understand that I can’t live without him. He has to understand how I feel. He-,” She ran her hands through her curls. “Please don’t stop me, dad. Don’t stop me,”
She bolted for the door.
