Chapter 9~ The Twins
Chapter 9 The Twins
"What did Ryan Kingsley want? I saw him grab your arm," Jason asked as he drove Lora back home.
He had a gentle smile on his face, but deep inside, he was seething. Lora and him had met while she was abroad six years ago and he had been pursuing her ever since.
Jason had been there for her and helped her out whenever she needed a friend or someone to lean on.NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
However, Lora hadn't rejected him and neither had she accepted him. Since he never openly spoke about his feelings, she never said anything about it either.
Seeing another man get interested in her made him a bit anxious.
Lora sighed at Jason's question. That encounter with Ryan made her feel unpleasant. She gave Jason a sideways glance and replied, "A partnership."
"Did you accept?" Jason asked in a low voice. Without realising, he tightened his hold around the steering wheel as he anxiously waited for Lora's answer. His knuckles turned white from how tightly he gripped the wheel.
"I told him I'll think about it..." Lora said and looked out the window as they approached the building where her apartment was located.
Even though she had returned to her family, she still preferred to stay alone.
She recalled her conversation with Ryan and a flicker of hatred flashed through her eyes.
Six years ago, if it wasn't for her parents rescuing her in the nick of time, she would have died in that explosion.
Anger bubbled up within her at the reminder of how ruthless Ryan was.
'He dares to compare me to Larisa Bennett... that woman died six years ago,' she said in her mind.
"Lora, we're here." Jason's words interrupted Lora's musings. He turned to look at her and added, "How I wish the drive was longer."
Lora chuckled and replied, "Thank you for sending me back, Jason. I had a great time tonight."
"Can I come up? I would like to say hi to the little ones, Jason asked and Lora turned to look at him.
Jason was always kind and considerate. He had always been by her side and protected her. There were times when she thought of giving him a chance, however, being in a relationship wasn't Lora's priority at the moment.
She smiled and answered, "It's late, Jay. You can meet them later... Goodnight."
Although Jason was disappointed, he didn't show it. Instead, he nodded and replied, "That's right... it's not appropriate. I'll meet them tomorrow with some gifts."
Lora smiled at him and left his car before going up to her apartment.
Meanwhile, inside Lora's apartment.
"Ethan, is this handsome uncle our daddy?" Ella sat next to her brother, Ethan, looking at the tablet in
Ethan's hand and asked innocently.
The two had been watching the live stream of their mother's introduction party when they happened to see a man who looked like an older version of Ethan. Ethan didn't answer but continued to look at the man on the tablet. A serious expression that did not match the youth of a five-year-old appeared on his face. "This handsome uncle looks like you, Ethan. I feel like he's our daddy," Ella remarked. "It would be nice if he was."
"Ella, whether he is our daddy or not is still to be investigated. But we must not mention this man in front of our mommy," Ethan commanded, his brows meeting. "Why? He went to Mommy's party and grabbed Mommy's arm. I saw it," Ella asked innocently. "He must be our daddy."
"It's complicated to explain. Don't you see a woman in a wheelchair next to him? As far as I know, this woman is none other than his fiancée," Ethan explained.
He zoomed in on the image of the woman in the wheelchair and the folds between his eyebrows met. 'So, this is the woman who Daddy loves?' He thought in his mind. "You mean, our daddy abandoned mommy because of this woman?" Ella asked, her eyes rounding in
surprise.
They all saw how hard their mother worked to take care of them.
"So, until I investigate everything, we can't think that this man is our daddy for the time being. Otherwise, Mommy will be sad."
"Okay, I understand. If it was really this woman who stole our daddy, I will help Mommy recover the interest," Ella said, her eyes twinkling with a strange calculation. Ethan smiled and touched Ella's head softly.
"Ella, Ethan, Mommy is back!" Just then, they heard Lora's voice.
Ethan hurriedly put the tablet down, and the two of them pretended to be doing nothing.
Ella threw herself into her mother's arms. She exclaimed, "Mommy, you're back! Did you have fun at
tonight's party?"
"Yes! I had fun with Grandpa and Grandma!" Lora exclaimed, her heart filling with warmth.
Ella studied Lora's expression and asked, "Mommy, are you sad?""
Lora seemed like she was in a bad mood. Ella frowned and thought, 'Could Mommy be angry that Daddy
was with that woman in a wheelchair?'
Lora was taken aback by Ella's question. She stroked her hair lovingly and smiled before saying, "Mommy is very happy, why haven't you slept yet?"
Lora thought the kids would fall asleep with the nanny. However, they were still up when it was way past their bedtime.
"We're waiting for you, Mommy. I can't sleep without your goodnight kisses," Ella said sweetly.
"Awww, my sweetheart," Lora remarked and leaned over before placing a kiss on Ella's forehead and cheeks. She then approached Ethan and did the same.
"I love you, Mommy," Ella said. "And Ethan loves you too."
Lora's heart immediately softened. Despite the infinite hurt Ryan had brought her, the two children were Ryan's best gifts to herself.
Her children meant the world to her and they were all that mattered.
Lora hugged her children, not seeing the sparkle of calculation in Ethan's eyes.
