Chapter 6 – Why Are You Here?
To be more accurate, it was just a peck on their lips that lasted for about one second.
But this is more than enough to send Stephanie Ruan flying into a rage!
Horrified by his actions, Stephanie Ruan raised her voice at him in disbelief. “Javier Zhong!! How dare you!!”
“!!!…”
The minute she finished her sentence, the car became dangerously silent, with both Isaac Wen and the driver drowning in fear.
Though they did not manage to witness the incident, they could vaguely guess what had happened just by looking at their body language.
And this is the first time they have encountered someone calling their young master by his full name and also looking to start a fight with him!
Such a bold lady! But does she know that she is playing with fire?!
“…”
Frankly speaking, it is indirectly the driver’s fault for unintentionally causing the ‘kiss’ to happen. But their boss is actually getting scolded for it instead!
What should they do now?!
Noticing Javier Zhong’s death stare from the rearview mirror, no one could understand how much they wanted to be invisible right at this moment!
“I’m sorry Chairman Zhong, someone suddenly dashed across the road so I had to…” The driver timidly explained himself to him.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Ruan could not care less!
Having her first kiss stolen by such an undeserving man, she had already lost half of her mind!
Argh!! What a horrible day it is!
Completely disgusted by what had just happened, she took a wet tissue from her handbag and rubbed it on her lips repeatedly.
Seeing that, Javier Zhong’s eyes dimmed. Although it is a small action of hers, he could not help but feel a little unhappy about it.
What does she mean by this?! If she had lost her first kiss, he had lost his too! He is also at a disadvantage alright!
But these were the words that he did not say aloud…
So was he wrong about this? Is she really not interested in him? Then what exactly is she after??…
“It was Director Ruan who wanted to be my fiancé.”
Javier Zhong moved his face closer to hers and added on sarcastically, “Has she forgotten about it already?”
At this moment, their faces are so close that they could feel each other’s breathing.
“What a rogue!” Stephanie Ruan pushed him away on his shoulder.
Appalled by his impolite actions, she could not help but re-draw their boundaries. “I hope Chairman Zhong can respect my personal space and not touch me unnecessarily. There’s no one around now so we don’t have to put on an act.”
Hearing her response, Javier Zhong let out a cold laughter. “Rogue?? Isn’t it a little too late to find out about this now?”
“I’m sure you have heard about what kind of person I am. My advice to you is to trust those rumours and…”
He held on to her chin and whispered in a threatening tone, “… don’t expect me to play by your rules.”
But as soon as Javier Zhong released his hand from her face, Stephanie Ruan swiftly grabbed onto his necktie and forced him to remain in his position.
“You must have misunderstood my words then, Chairman Zhong. Right now, we have nothing more than a business relationship. I may be your fiancé by name…”
She placed her lips beside his ear, “… but I will never be your puppet.”
With a charming smile, she released him and used her hand to brush off his shoulder lightly, as though there is some dust on his suit.
Is she afraid of him?? She could tell you in a heartbeat that she is!
Stephanie Ruan knew that she is a nobody in his eyes and if he wants to destroy her, he has the absolute capability to do so within seconds!
But does she have a choice? She could tell you also that she has no choice but to pluck up all her courage and face him head-on!
Even if she dies in his hands one day, she would not regret it at all, knowing that she has already tried her best!
Meanwhile, her words had left Javier Zhong clenching his fists and gritting his teeth in anger.
No one has ever dared to speak to him in such a manner before!
How dare she humiliate him like this?!
He wished so much to teach this woman a lesson right at this moment!Content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
But… he could not! He still needed her cooperation for the important event on Saturday.
Argh! She better count her blessings!
With that, both of them sat silently in the car and never spoke a word to each other again.
Of course, the car’s temperature has also hit the lowest that it has ever been, with both Isaac Wen and the driver holding on to their breaths and wishing that they weren’t here.
Who knows what would happen to them if their young master remembers that they had witnessed such an episode?!
…
It has been a long time since Stephanie Ruan has stepped foot into Country C.
She continued to look out of the window and admire the city as the car drove past every street.
There is a sense of familiarity coupled with unfamiliarity as she witnessed the locals hustling around their crowded makeshift stores.
Just across the road, she saw the students excitedly leaving their school compound, with most of them heading towards the next street that is filled with a plethora of food options.
Chinese hot pot… Steamed bun stores… Dumpling noodles shop… and…
Hold on… What is happening over there?!
“Wait, stop the car!”
Startled by her words, Isaac Wen quickly turned around and asked her politely, “Director Ruan, do you have a change in location?”
Upon realising that her huge reaction had surprised them, she calmed herself down and explained.
“Oh, I decided to alight here to grab some food. Please stop at the drop-off point in front.”
As soon as the car came to a stop, Isaac Wen glanced at Javier Zhong before turning to speak to Stephanie Ruan. “Director Ruan, we will wait for you and drive you to your next location.”
After being his right-hand man for so many years, he more or less could guess Javier Zhong’s orders simply by looking at his expression.
“There’s no need for that. Thank you for the ride here.” With that, she picked up her handbag and alighted from the car.
Stephanie Ruan stood on the pavement and waited for the car to drive away, before running over to a young boy who is standing just a few meters away from her.
Earlier in the car, she happened to take notice of this boy, who is about 4 years old, crying alone. He seemed to have lost his way.
In her heart, she knew that she could not bear to just leave him alone on the streets and pretend that she did not see him crying for help.
Yet at the same time, she is not familiar enough with Javier Zhong and his subordinates to put them through such a situation.
Stephanie Ruan lowered herself to meet the child’s eyes and took out some tissues to wipe his tears.
She then brushed her fingers gently through his hair, “Little boy, don’t be afraid. Do you want to let auntie know what is your name?”
Seeing the beautiful lady in front of him, the boy quietened down a little and replied shyly, “E… Ethan…”
Hearing his cute response, she could not help but give him a doting smile. She continued to speak to him in a soft tone, “Ethan, right? Such a good boy! Were you with your parents just now?”
Ethan Chen shook his head and sniffled, “Great-grandma.”
“You came with your great-grandma? Do you know where is she now?”
He thought about it for a moment before shaking his head in dejection.
But before Stephanie Ruan could even probe further, he started wailing! This time it is even louder than before.
Curious as to why he had such a sudden outburst, she followed his line of sight and saw…
“!!…”
“Chairman Zhong?? Why are you here?” Stephanie Ruan called out to him in surprise.
