Chapter 9 Always Running Short of Money
Chapter 9 Always Running Short of Money
Upon hearing Julian’s question, Sadie opened her mouth, wanted to say something, but immediately
shut it tight. She then blushed and turned her head to the side.
Back then, she told him she hadn’t got time to visit Dean Esme yet just to buy some time. Since it
would be Friday the next day, she was still contemplating if she should call Otto for help. She didn’t
expect Julian to squeeze in on her like this.
“It’s already Thursday today.” Julian slightly pursed his lips, then turned around and left in long strides.
The orphanage’s property ownership was indeed in his hands, but he didn’t mortgage it to DHG Group
last week, but only yesterday. The hospital which Dean Esme was admitted into actually belonged to
DHG Group. Thus, Julian could naturally ask Khalid to liaise with the hospital so no one could visit
Dean Esme.
Sadie was stunned and fixated on the ground. Sweat rolled down her cheeks. Chill ran down her limbs.
It was already Thursday. If she couldn’t raise enough money in the next three days, the orphanage
might be brought down to ashes.
She took a deep breath and went after Julian. “Mr. Mccarthy.”
When Julian heard her calling, he curled his lips and slowed down his pace.
“Mr. Mccarthy.” Sadie paced her breathing and looked at him with poise. “Will you return the
orphanage’s ownership if I pay you the money on Monday?”
She took out her phone and opened the audio recording. “I want to have a recording as proof. I believe
Julian Mccarthy, the president of DHG Group, will not go back on his own words.”
“The ownership will be returned when the money is paid.” Julian smirked devilishly and looked at her
condescendingly. “Well, if you can’t pay it by then, I can consider accept another form of physical
payment.”
“I…” Sadie blushed and stammered. She instinctively took a step back.
This scoundrel! Sadie felt something was always off when she encountered him. She always felt an
extreme pressure and a peculiar sense of familiarity.
She would even have an impulse to act like a spoil child with him. This was a feeling she had never All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
had with Otto.
Julian narrowed his eyes to hide his impulse to smile. He yanked her over and caressed her lips. “Were
you scolding me?”
Sadie felt chills ran through her whole body and her heart was thumping. She glared at him furiously.
“You jerk, let go of me!”
“Sure.” Julian smirked slightly and planted a kiss on her lips before letting go of her.
Sadie was so agitated she couldn’t care much anymore and kicked at him. “Julian you damn
scoundrel!”
Julian dodged her kick, turned around and left calmly.
After he walked off in a distant, he felt the petite figure behind him was frozen still. He curled his lips
and dialled a series of phone number.
When the call was connected, he turned to take a glimpse. Seeing that his adorable wife was still in a
daze, his lips curled up even more. “Reinvestigate the cruise accident. I want details on how the fire
started and how did she end up in City B.”
The person on the other end of the line said something. Julian’s face turned grim and he replied in a
cold voice, “Don’t give me nonsense.”
If it was not an accident but someone’s doing, it was time to get even.
The air became warm as the sun rose higher into the sky. The people who came for morning jog left
one by one.
At this moment, Sadie had already wiped her lips so much to the point they were swollen. Biting her
lips and clutching her phone, she turned around and left in dismay.
Otto had stayed up for work the whole night, she would definitely be bothering him to call him at this
hour. Not to mention the call was about borrowing money from him.
She didn’t know what that scoundrel will do to her if she couldn’t pay the money in the next three days.
Her mind was full of messy thoughts, which made her unable to focus in class and seemed to be in a
constant daze.
“Are you okay? You seemed to be absent minded the whole morning”. Daisy knocked on her plate and
said with a puzzled look, “Are you running short of money again?”
“I seem to be always running short of money.” Sadie forced a smile. Only half a month into the
semester, she already had a nickname ‘Lackie’, since she constantly lacked money.
Daisy frowned, looked around cautiously and asked in a low voice, “Otto is getting engaged with the girl
from the Brooks family, had you heard about that?”
Sadie heard about it earlier in the morning from a broadcasting club member, the Brooks girl took a
week off school and went to Paris to settle her engagement affairs. The person who accompanied her
along was none other than Otto.
At the moment, everyone was anticipating Sadie’s reaction over this. There was even a gamble in the
class next door over whether she had known about this news.
After all, Otto was an overall impeccably excellent guy, while Sadie had a reputation in school as an
overall loser. The funny thing was, Sadie was the only girlfriend Otto had ever made public.
However, if it wasn’t for the menacing scar on Sadie’s face, with her perfect figure, she would definitely
be a gorgeous beauty who was totally worthy of having Otto as her boyfriend.
Too bad God only gave her an excellent body but not an equally excellent face.
“No, I haven’t heard of it.” Sadie frowned with slight anger. “He’s not that kind of a person.”
Otto took over Newman family’s business right after he graduated and had been flying all around the
world for work ever since. He didn’t tell her where he was going for work this time, and she didn’t ask
either.
Why would he still call her if he was going to settle his engagement affairs with the girl from Brooks
family?
She had known him since junior high, and only agree to date him after they graduated. Throughout
those years, he had always taken good care for her, treated her like a gentleman all the time.
If it was all an act, his acting skills would definitely be worthy of an Oscar.
“The broadcasting club members are gossiping.” Daisy shrugged. “I don’t believe that new is true to be
honest. It’s just weird that Brooks girl rushed her engagement like this when she was just in junior year.
I’m sure this is just a fake news she deliberately spread, don’t worry about it.”
“Thanks.” Sadie forced a smile. An image of Otto holding hands with Libby suddenly flashed across her
mind, which made her feel stuffed in her chest.
Daisy started to doubt if Sadie was giving Otto too much trust he didn’t deserve.
She wanted to tell Sadie her thoughts but swallowed her words after second thought.
They were friends since high school, then they happened to get into the same college taking the same
course as classmates. That’s why they had a close relationship.
Sadie was an easy-going person. And perhaps because of her scar, she gave off an impression of a
meek and introverted girl.
But in fact, she was a tough girl who knew exactly what she wanted.
“Thank you for telling me this.” Sadie lowered her head and finished her meal. Her thoughts were
running wild.
Daisy felt a bit awkward and sighed. “Or maybe they’re just jealous of you. Otto is your boyfriend,
you’re definitely the person who know him the best,” she comforted her.
“True that.” Sadie raised her eyebrows and forced another smile. Then she got up to clean up her
plate.
She felt she knew what kind of a person Otto was, but sometimes not really.
He was always an elegant gentleman with her. But he seemed to be like that too with other people. And
since he had many suitors, he always seemed to have no idea how to react to their court.
However, throughout this period of them dating, he never had any scandal.
The Brooks girl was a childhood friend to Otto, it would only be natural for them to have a close
relationship. Sadie tried to console herself, but there was just a prick in her heart she couldn’t get off.
Afternoon that day, Talia gave her a call and asked her if she would be interested to take a showgirl job
at a business opening celebration event. The salary would be ten thousand per night.
“Of course I’m taking it. What’s the time? Let me check if I have class that night,” Sadie said excitedly.
Ten thousand was more than the monthly salary she got from her normal part time job.
Talia then told her the venue and date of the event. Sadie checked her schedule and found she was
free to take the job that night.
