Chapter 6 Was She Afraid Of Him?

Chapter 6 Was She Afraid Of Him?

Sadie felt a little humiliated but she didn’t take her taunt to her heart.

It wasn’t her first time hearing such words and by now she was numb to the slander. Keeping up with

her classmate, she inquired again without giving up. She was amused when she heard that the there

was some new visiting professor that made all the girls lose their minds.

She thought that maybe the President himself was there and caused all the beautiful girls to go out

running together.

Since she had begun to attend school here, she had come here for a morning run everyday and not

once had she seen those girls before. After thinking about it for a bit, she was sure that the professor

must be really handsome for this to happen. After all, this whole world only lived for beauty.

Putting on her headphones again, she slowed down a bit and continued jogging as usual.

It was the mid of September, the weather was still clear and dry. At only around seven in the morning

the heat rose.

Sadie ran two laps, gradually soaking her back and chest in sweat.

As she ran her last lap, the atmosphere around her felt obviously wrong, she stopped and looked at the

man running next to her in shock.

Julian! How was he there? Right next to her!

He didn’t seem to have seen her as he continued to jog, followed by a gaggle of beautiful girls in sexy

looking sportwear, showing off their legs.

Sadie, patted her chest to relax herself, walked out of the ground and stopped to stretch under a tree.

“Did you see him? Julian Mccarthy. They just hired him as a visiting professor at the Department of

International Economics and Trade.” The guy beside her said in a sour tone, “I heard that he contacted

the school himself and also donated a library.”

“It’s a rich man’s world!”

“DHG group’s assets can no longer be measured in simple numbers, because it includes Julian

Mccarthy! He is not just a worthless third-generation rich guy. He studied at the Wharton School of

Business and is now a member of the top club, only extremely rich people can be in that club. He’s in

the top one percent of the world. It’s no use envying him.”

His rant about Julian gradually faded and Sadie unconsciously turned her head towards the ground,

looking at the tall, straight figure running at a constant speed.

He attended the Wharton School of Business?

She remembered something from the strange dream of hers. She had heard the name of that school in

it.

But she still couldn’t remember who told her or the man who kissed her. She wasn’t sure if it was

because of that dream, but she resisted letting Otto kiss her on the lips.

She shook her head, coming out of her train of thoughts and realized that the playlist had already

ended. She took off her headphones and continued to stretch.

She couldn’t afford to get fat or to go to a gym to maintain her figure as gyms were expensive too. This

little time every morning was all she had that she used to maintain her figure.

The income from tutoring was really meager. Although, runway modeling was harder but at least it paid

better than tutoring.

As she was about to finish stretching, she saw Julian walk towards her. Startled, she ran away quickly.

She still hadn’t confirmed if Dean Esme really mortgaged the orphanage to the DHG Group, so she

didn’t want to see him just yet.

Julian pursed his lips tightly and narrowed his starry eyes. He looked at the little figure in the distance

who had just ran away at the sight of him like a frightened rabbit.

Was she afraid of him? Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.

Ever since growing accustomed to him, she was the only person in the whole Mccarthy family who was

not afraid of him. Seeing this change really surprised him.

Hooking his lips into a slight smile, he strode away without paying the slightest of attention to the horde

of thirsty girls behind him who were all breathless by now.

In panic, Sadie ran back to her dorm room. Her roommate was up by now.

Sadie went to shower and later left the room with a hurried greeting.

Today, she had to save her roommate a seat in the classroom because Professor Turner was very

famous and people had to stand if they were late because all the seats were already taken.

As she entered the auditorium, there were only a few students there.

Sadie chose a seat in the middle portion, saving another besides her and then took out the bread she

brought back last night, eating it in small bites.

After a while some more students entered.

She heard someone sit right behind her. She quickly swallowed the bread, carefully packing it and

stuffing it in her bag.

The bread was a bit dry and she was not careful in her eagerness to eat it. After swallowing she started

to hiccup. She looked through her bag but couldn’t find water, so she just covered her mouth and

endured it.

“Here.” The person behind her offered her a bottle of water, his voice was very familiar.

Sadie bit her lower lip in embarrassment, wishing to for the ground to open so she could hide in it. She

whispered a quiet “thank you” hesitantly and reached out to take the water.

The cap of the bottle had already been loosened and it opened as soon as she turned it.

After a couple of mouthfuls of water, her hiccups improved a bit. She couldn’t help but turn around and

thank him again.

Julian looked at her with sadness faintly intertwined with doubt in his eyes. She wasn’t pretending, she

actually did not remember him or anything that happened before.

“Mr Mccarthy?” Sadie was really frightened again, and even forgot to hiccup for a moment.

Julian hummed in response lightly and lowered his head, looking at the tablet in his hands intently.

However, his lips unconsciously arced into a joyous smile.

His wife seemed a little less frightened.

Sadie retracted her gaze in embarrassment. She wanted to change seats but all the seats were already

full, so she gave up.

She waited for about five minutes more, before her roommate came in and took the seat beside her

that she had saved for her.

“Sadie, did you hear? The president of DHG Group became a visiting professor in the Department of

International Economics and Trade.” Daisy, who slept across from her, said in a low but excited

whisper, “I heard that he went for a morning jog and all the pretty girls ran after him.”

“Uh! Umm…” Sadie’s head exploded. She kept winking at Daisy, motioning her to stop talking.

Julian was sitting right beside her, maybe because he was looking down at his tablet, so Daisy didn’t

notice him.

Daisy misunderstood her meaning and raised her voice. She said in a gloating tone, “I heard to get him

to fall for them, all the pretty girls from every department woke up before dawn to put on their makeup.

But running around made their makeup all melt into a puddle.”

Sadie grimaced in embarrassment, “Oh! Really?”

She hadn’t paid attention to such details as they didn’t concern her.

“Let me show you.” Daisy couldn’t hide her excitement as she opened the photos on her phone and

showed her the photos that the students who were present at the ground took.

Sadie glanced at the photos; she was surprised to see herself in them along with others. She had no

words.

“You are different from them. You look ugly with or without makeup and no one looks at you. Hahaha!”

Daisy said, half-jokingly. Just then she saw Professor Turner enter the auditorium and fell silent.

Sadie also saw the professor enter and she instinctively looked behind her, accidentally crashing her

gaze right into Julian’s deep eyes.

His eyes were like a deep bottomless abyss, with the ability to suck in others’ souls.

She looked away embarrassed. She didn’t mean to pry, she just couldn’t understand why was he in the

class.

Professor Turner had only two classes in a week. She listened to him attentively and gradually forgot

about Julian sitting behind her.

When it was time for questions, a voice came from behind, “Professor, marketing should be based on

the quality of the product. The cases mentioned by you clearly did not meet the standards set by the

government in terms of product quality. Even though, this kind of marketing is successful but in reality,

it deceives the customers.”

“You are very insightful.” Professor Turner squinted towards him. Sadie could clearly see the look of

surprise on his face.

“This is not my own opinion, but a question raised by a student present here.” Julian’s voice came from

behind her.

Having heard the content of his words carefully, she felt her soul leave her body in shock. There was a

buzzing in her ears.
