Chapter 29 You Have Also Been Sold
Chapter 29 You Have Also Been Sold
Walking about five or six steps away, Sadie answered the call reluctantly. She said in a low voice,
“What is it?”
Julian must really not have anything to do. She felt like he was keeping an eye on her.
“Come over for lunch at noon, the driver will be waiting for you at the gate. I have already completed all
the formalities for you at school. You only have to live in the dorm once in few days, you can stay at
home the rest of the time.” Julian’s sweet melodious voice came over the phone, his tone firm.
Sadie felt upset. She answered him and then disconnected the call. Why was he intervening in her life
and deciding in her place if she was going to live on campus or not. What right did he have?
She cursed Julian and his whole family under her breath and patted her chest, trying to calm herself
down. Then she turned around to go find Daisy.
“Sadie, nice knock-off! It almost looks genuine. How much was it?” Paige crossed her arms on her
chest and stopped Sadie with a fake smile, “I heard you were sick but I don’t know what kind of
sickness is that?”
“It’s a cold.” Sadie narrowed her eyes and glared at her condescendingly, “What do you mean?”
Any other day, Sadie wouldn’t have cared about how malicious her words were.
But today was different. Julian’s call had already made her angry enough, and now Paige was adding
fuel to the fire and satirizing her.
Sadie was really poor and she couldn’t afford to buy anything from a designer brand, even if it was a
cheap brand. She would have still thought for a long time before buying anything.
“I was just curious about that knock-off that you are wearing. Anyway, I just wanted it tell you that it’s
your duty today.” Paige snorted coldly and beckoned Riley to leave.
Riley glanced at Sadie and said with a weird smile, “Looks like you got a lot of break-up settlement
money so you can now even buy fake designer.”
“What are you even talking about?” Sadie yelled. But before she could rush off after him, Daisy stopped
her and said pleadingly, “Forget it! You still have to live in the same dormitory for a long time, there’s no
need to argue with them.” NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.
Sadie was so angry that if it wasn’t for Daisy, she’d really have rushed forward and hit one of them.
“Don’t be angry! You look like a hungry tigress.” Daisy pattered her on her shoulder and pulled her
away towards the classroom for the next class.
Sadie gradually calmed down with Daisy’s comfort, but she still felt really depressed.
After the morning class, she went back to the dorm without eating. Unexpectedly, Liddy called her to
say that there was something wrong with the orphanage.
“What happened?” Sadie asked her but the call suddenly dropped and no matter how much she tried to
call again the call didn’t go through.
Remembering that Liddy had previously told her that the Deputy Dean Raya ran off with the money, her
eyes widened in shock and she quickly ran out.
After getting into a taxi, she called Liddy again. This time the call finally went through, Liddy was
choking with sobs.
She said, “Raya sold off two fourteen-year-old girls, but they managed to run away and come back.
The other party came to get them, killed one of them and injured the other.”
She also said, “Sadie, help…”
Sadie’s heart seized up in fear. She comforted Liddy incessantly, telling her not to cry and that she was
going to help her.
She talked to her all the way. When she got off the taxi, the police had already surrounded the scene
and the ambulance was driving away slowly.
After paying for the taxi, she rushed into the orphanage, trying not to think horrible things in her mind.
As soon as she got to the front of the building where the incident had occurred, she was immediately
stopped by the police and was only allowed to enter after proving her identity.
The body had been taken away and the officers were now in the middle of taking account of the
incident from the keeper aunts in the yard. All the young children were locked in the classroom,
trembling in fear and hugging each other.
Sadie finally found a terribly crying Liddy. Her eyes red but her tone calm, Sadie asked, “How the hell
did this happen?”
Liddy was beyond herself with crying so much. She held on to Sadie’s hand and sobbed, her eyes
hollow and dark, “You will help, right?”
Sadie was startled. She bit her lower lip unconsciously, neither agreeing nor denying to help.
Liddy smiled bitterly, wiped her tears and took Sadie by her hand to the activity area at the back of the
classroom, “Raya sold the girls, do you know where they were sold?”
Not knowing the answer, Sadie thought this was not going to be an easy situation to handle. However,
before she could ask her, Liddy fainted.
“Doctor!” Sadie was taken aback. She helped Liddy and shouted for the doctor a few times but no one
came. She had no choice but to carry Liddy on her back and run out shouting for help.
Fortunately, the police were still there. Seeing that someone had fainted they immediately stepped in to
help.
Dean Esme was in the hospital and Raya was missing. Sadie became the temporary person in charge
of the orphanage and finished the formalities with the police.
Maybe because it was a huge issue, the heads of various government departments in the city came,
the girls’ school principal also came.
Her head was buzzing, continuously listening to these people, arranging the kids and other things
around, helping the police record eyewitnesses’ accounts for what happened, working like a puppet.
There were countless calls coming in on her phone but she didn’t have the time to answer even once.
When she was being dragged out yet again by the police, she finally saw Julian appear and came out
of her daze.
“It’s okay, I’m here now.” Julian held her cold hand and gave a sideways glance to the heads of the
various departments, his expressions unpredictable.
This orphanage had big problems, at least the ones that Khalid had found out were enough to shock
him.
Especially related to her…
“I still have something to do.” Sadie broke away from his grip and calmly got into the police car.
Without trying to stop her, Julian gave Khalid a look and returned to his car.
Sadie went to the hospital with the police first. There she completed the formalities for the injured girl
and Liddy, both of whom were still being treated. Then she went to the police station.
Facing the policewoman’s questions which she asked in a warm comforting tone, Sadie hesitated for a
long time and then shook her head.
She didn’t know if any children had been sold in the past, but many children had been adopted in the
last two years. She didn’t even know if apart from selling the girls Raya made them do other shameful
things too.
However, she couldn’t explain Liddy’s miscarriage. Liddy kept telling her that she had no boyfriend.
The police probably didn’t know what else to ask her, so they just made her sign and politely let her go.
Sadie came out of the interrogation room and ran downstairs quickly.
Her chest felt really tight and she couldn’t breathe, all her nerves were tensed. She quickly took a cab
to the hospital again.
The men who came to mess things up at the orphanage, only some of them were caught, some were
still at large.
She didn’t care about any of this though. She only wanted to know if the Raya actually sold the girls.
Pushing open the door of Liddy’s room, she sat down besides her bed and asked in a firm tone, “Apart
from these two who were sold, how many more of the children had been sold in the past? You have
known all about it, right? Tell me!”
Liddy, who had just gone through a D&C, was lying on the bed as pale as paper. She did not even look
at Sadie.
Sadie was very angry. She held Liddy by the shoulders and asked again, “Why didn’t you report it to
the police? Did you even think once about how young they were? Did you think about them?”
“Why are you pretending to be innocent?” Liddy shook her hands away and sneered, “You have also
been sold, but seeing you like this, you must not remember.”
